i love how all the other characters are like subtle about you being in hell until the end, but then sarai just straight up lies about it until you see the angels guts on the walls, the photo burning, AND THEN GETTING BURNED ALIVE.
Would it be possible to repent? Think about it, one not related to her incident realizing early, or before even knowing/ realizing, would it be possible for them to not be burned? If the person was greedy but not to a harmful degree to others, kept a standard. It's a interesting thought
I love this little twist. I watched this before I read the bio, and to have her initially convince the viewer that this was in Heaven before diving straight into hell was such a good and satisfying transition.

I don't think I've ever gone from thinking that a character was evil and in the wrong to thinking they were 100% justified in their actions as I did after reading the backstory for this character.
I'm pretty sure someone pointed it out, but I'm gonna say it anyway: Sarai resembles the witch from the story of Hansel and Gretel. But instead of feeding and cooking children, she's feeding and cooking gluttonous sinners.

Without reading the backstory I thought this was about an angel who got sick of her job and letting heartless rich people into heaven so she killed god and the rest of the angels but man the actual story hits different...I am not a Sarai apologist because Sarai has nothing to apologize for!
My theory was that she was a child and loved to bake ( in the photo she looked like a kid to me 2:30, she also seem a little child like with some of her poses in the beginning of the video, like how she envisioned herself as a baker) and the man was her step father (because how he entered into the photo). She didn't get along with him because he was a drunk and she didn't like alcohol ("you had the wine, oh what a pain..."you're just here for the wine") one night he got so drunk he fell asleep and cause a fire killing her. Because of that she became so enraged she wanted to reenact vengeance. So she made a deal with the devil, which was to become a amazing baker in hell and reenact vengeance upon her step father. And her age up in the rest of the song...not exactly sure lol

During the first chorus when sarai is presenting different deserts she has a platter of fruits covered in chocolate. I like thinking about the bananas she covered in chocolate still having the peals on and i made a small headcanon. The people shes torturing wants more and more options of food that sarai just gives up and starts throwing shit together idk its just fun to thing about
To Hell and Back is so good I don't even have the words to tell you how much I love it. Every time one of these songs comes out, it's on constant repeat, whether on my headphones or in my head. I can never get tired of them. And the video, of course, makes the experience complete. It really does. okay it's funny that you mention this bc we were discussing this earlier this week. there's these fucked up and silly little hell creatures (think like corrupted versions of pets) that sarai feeds the pastries to. she doesn't feed them to the sinners because she has standards for her baking lol so the little creature guys just eat them
@@Helloagain987 My headcannon based on the song is that she does it so that "They're perfectly sweet" which based on how the sinners final moments. The sinners she deals with are wealthy/cruel people. But as seen in the song he only begins to freak out when the truth is told to him. He just dines and enjoys the food and this endless buffet. Rather than denying the fact that they shouldn't be there until it's handed to them on a silver platter like everything else they took for granted.

honestly this genuinely makes me so happy to hear. a lot of sarai's story was based off my own experience growing up as a child of immigrants in the US, and seeing how gentrification affected and displaced the people I grew up with from our homes. im so glad the story resonated with someone 😭

With how many different producers worked on some of these songs, I now have a theory that there is a cult consisting of vocaloid creators, and we just don't know about it yet.
thats bc it just goes back and forth between three higher notes next to each over and over in the second half of the chorus and the strange vocal delivery that honestly most vocaloids will have just naturally does give it almost staircase-like effect to it. not to mention the note chord creates a lot of tension just by itself, but the way it stays fixed on those three particular notes really makes it a great release back into the first part of the chorus/the end of the chorus
AS A PERSON WHO CAN SING (well... has had a few basic singing lessons and has watched enough vocal analysis videos to understand what singing feats are impressive and what aren't) I loved that too. I know it's a vocaloid so it's not really a surprise it can do that, but if anyone else can pull that off without losing their breath I would pay them my family's entire fortune. Speaking of vocal feats, the way her voice climbs when singing at the end ("No, no, no, nononono~!") after the bloody analog horror jumpscare (stolenfromanothercomment) is insane. Like whenever I try to sing this song I can't ever seem to beat that part... but maybe it's because of the first half of the song taking away most of my energy lol

i love this song in its entirety but i am simply obsessed w/ the lyric "they say god died on the thirty-third." the thirty-third not being a day you can die on. god died on an impossible date, meaning he didn't die, or otherwise just implying something strange and off-putting about god. it's just, jeez that's such a cool way to word it the lyricism!!!! gah!!!!! sucha good song

My favorite part of this song is the burning scenes. It starts out with seeing her burning alive with the bakery, then later on with the song you see a photograph getting progressively burnt up while showing her again with the man that bought her bakery out before it burns up completely. Then at the very end as she’s spinning the viewer around, there’s that one frame of her charred corpse before proceeding to throw the viewer in the oven to cook them. Now having the viewer burn alive in revenge of what has happened to her. I love details like that, especially when the fire effect itself also obscures those scenes to make that one frame much more terrifying when it happens!

gosh i need to revisit this video more often. every time i notice something new! and this song is one of my favorites, took me a few months but it grew on me a lot. sarai's character design has my heart and soul and the vibes hit really well for me.

@@Timetraveler2411 It’s about demons in Hell responsible for punishing the worst of sinners, and these demons got their positions from their experiences in life, e.g. the Demon in charge of the Lust Department being a s***al predator-targeting detective/serial killer in life. There’s also a plot line about the Devil’s position being usurped by a newcomer, though I’m a bit more fuzzy on the details on that one. There should be more information on the carrd link in the description.

SOOO COOL!!! this is my favorite song I've heard in a Long time, the main melody is just too good and the pv is visually beautiful and even better after reading her lore. I can hear/see all the work that everyone put into this and it came out incredible. I love the whole series but this one blew me away, amazing job!

Or does Sarai go from "You're in heaven!" to "FIRES UPON YE, SINNER!" in the same short timespan she does as in the song? Since James' song definitely made it sound like his "Oh man I'm just as confused as you! Gee golly guess we better fU-" to "I know what you did last summer." act goes on for a LOOONG time. And Micah's! Hers sounds pretty short yeah but does she have multiple people at the table with her when she's getting your souls got? Or does she just go "NEXT BITCH!" since she's not very subtle about it being Hell. Then again I guess she wouldn't have to be? Since she deals with greedy people who are usually gambling addicts, they'd be cool with her saying it's hell since they're used to things being branded as satan-approved yeah? So... do these funky dudes just have no concept of time, or do they do this all rather fast? Listening to This Is My Heart I assumed that James drags his thing on for months and then goes "Sayonara, BITCH." later. Kind of like... I assumed that he would fake having a relationship of sorts with the sinner? While doing his "Oh gee whiz grommit I got no clue what's going on here! Oh boy I sure hope we get out!" routine and then months later does his epic gamer moment. And I guessed that Sarai's heaven fake-out thing would go on for a few hours, yk to make the sinner think it's actually heaven and to be close to a dinner party, and THEN she turns them into finger food. In conclusion I'm obsessed with this series. Sarai is my favorite BY FAR. She's the most brutal it seems like but she's also the most justified in a sense? Like James has a LOT of justification and is so right for killing those people, but yk what I mean?? You can feel her rage and emotion during the song and she could probably get a sinner profusely apologizing before their demise just because of how understandable everything is. James is just as if not more justified, but obviously some people will disagree with if he's in the right for the murders thing. I for one appreciate James. Especially because he did try! Yk like he didn't want to turn to killing, but he tried over and over again to get some justice and had to take it into his own hands. Micah? I mean you don't need to justify much with Micah she's just chilling! Her backstory? Irrelevant. Micah might have my absolute favorite introduction for the sinners. Like, you know what you're in for when you sit down at her table. She's basically given you a big card that says "DO NOT PLAY! YOU WILL DIE!" so she doesn't need justification. She's an unproblematic queen. I need to know this the most. Are the heads of each department friends? Like, on friendly terms? I know Micah and James are besties, theyre girlbossing, but do all of the heads have a friendship? Or do some stay strictly professional? a
well considering they are the heads of their department i would assume there's like... other people in their departments that also do stuff? perhaps the heads that do things slowly only get (or choose to take) the most insidious sinners so they get to slowly and painfully torture them like they deserve

I know that Micah deals with greed and Sarai is gluttony, but it seems like Sarai doesn't deal with the usual depiction of gluttony (yk like food shit) and instead deals with greedy bastards. like bill gates. people who hurt others for profit n stuff. while Micah just deals with people who hoard wealth? which tbh I actually like that way more for the story, I've always thought that in stories it's a very touchy subject to make the sin of gluttony be food related. I feel like the only exception for food gluttony would be when you make it be like, cannibalism or something. but I do like how Sarai still technically crosses into the greed territory. I feel like I can remember her being stated to be the head of gluttony AND greed? so I'm guessing that means she's supposed to mix the two. which I like! having them cross in with the heads definitely is a good tool for making more characters and making the story more unique because of all the characters who interact with each other and their lore. Since if they didn't we'd just have Nina, the old devil who's name I forgor, James, Micah, Sarai, and the remaining sins.

I've loved all the Hell and Back songs, they're all amazing bops that I have on my favorite songs Playlist, but WOW!! This has to be my absolute favorite. The lyrics, the art, the speed, it all comes together so beautifully. Maybe I just have a soft spot for gluttony songs. This also hits just right when I'm feeling particularly angry about capitalism and the ever-widening class gap. I work as a maid cleaning the houses of people who have more money than I could possibly spend, while I bust my autistic ass for $11 an hour plus tips. If they're willing to be generous and give me $5-$10 out of their millions that is. I've read the lore and I understand this was written about immigration and systemic racism/gentrification. This is just how I relate personally :) Thanks for the awesome music!

"Guaranteed to feed his ego's treats" May be explaining his customers and the new food on the menu. 2:29 May be her when she was very young, and when her parents still owned the bakery. And the burning is the past being destroyed because of her boss destroying the bakery 1:14 "My hearts on fire love" could also be referring to when her boss said "out of the goodness of his heart"

My theory was that she was a child and loved to bake ( in the photo she looked like a kid to me 2:30, she also seem a little child like with some of her poses in the beginning of the video, like how she envisioned herself as a baker) and the man was her step father (because how he entered into the photo). She didn't get along with him because he was a drunk and she didn't like alcohol ("you had the wine, oh what a pain..."you're just here for the wine") one night he got so drunk he fell asleep and cause a fire killing her. Because of that she became so enraged she wanted to reenact vengeance. So she made a deal with the devil, which was to become a amazing baker in hell and reenact vengeance upon her step father. And her age up in the rest of the song...not exactly sure lol

The sinners she deals with are wealthy/cruel people. But as seen in the song he only begins to freak out when the truth is told to him. He just dines and enjoys the food and this endless buffet. Rather than denying the fact that they shouldn't be there until it's handed to them on a silver platter like everything else they took for granted.

This is so severely underrated, i cant explain it but i like how her voice goes up like going up the stairs in 0:51 if you get what i mean
thats bc it just goes back and forth between three higher notes next to each over and over in the second half of the chorus and the strange vocal delivery that honestly most vocaloids will have just naturally does give it almost staircase-like effect to it. not to mention the note chord creates a lot of tension just by itself, but the way it stays fixed on those three particular notes really makes it a great release back into the first part of the chorus/the end of the chorus
AS A PERSON WHO CAN SING (well... has had a few basic singing lessons and has watched enough vocal analysis videos to understand what singing feats are impressive and what aren't) I loved that too. I know it's a vocaloid so it's not really a surprise it can do that, but if anyone else can pull that off without losing their breath I would pay them my family's entire fortune.
Speaking of vocal feats, the way her voice climbs when singing at the end ("No, no, no, nononono~!") after the bloody analog horror jumpscare (stolenfromanothercomment) is insane. My favorite part of this song is the burning scenes. It starts out with seeing her burning alive with the bakery, then later on with the song you see a photograph getting progressively burnt up while showing her again with the man that bought her bakery out before it burns up completely. Then at the very end as she’s spinning the viewer around, there’s that one frame of her charred corpse before proceeding to throw the viewer in the oven to cook them. Now having the viewer burn alive in revenge of what has happened to her. I love details like that, especially when the fire effect itself also obscures those scenes to make that one frame much more terrifying when it happens!

The lore for this series is so cool, I’m kinda tempted to use it as an AU inspiration for my OCs, if you’re cool with that.
If you don’t mind, I’m just now stumbling upon this story, do you mind giving me a general idea of what it’s about? There’s so many little references in this but I can’t tell what they’re to
@@Timetraveler2411 It’s about demons in Hell responsible for punishing the worst of sinners, and these demons got their positions from their experiences in life, e.g. the Demon in charge of the Lust Department being a s***al predator-targeting detective/serial killer in life. There’s also a plot line about the Devil’s position being usurped by a newcomer, though I’m a bit more fuzzy on the details on that one.

was scrolling through my recommended, caught a glimpse of this before accidentally pressing the youtube home button and it launched me up to the top. i’m so glad i decided to scroll back down to find it again out of curiosity, this is probably my favourite song as of now! it’s extremely catchy and the art and video-work (forgot the word) in the background made it even better. the story seems interesting so i’ll definitely remember to look into the character as well!

SOOO COOL!!! this is my favorite song I've heard in a Long time, the main melody is just too good and the pv is visually beautiful and even better after reading her lore. I can hear/see all the work that everyone put into this and it came out incredible. I love the whole series but this one blew me away, amazing job!
I imagine that this goes on for a while right? Does that mean that there's just a bunch of sinners waiting for Sarai to finish with her most recent victim? Or does Sarai go from "You're in heaven!" to "FIRES UPON YE, SINNER!" in the same short timespan she does as in the song? Since James' song definitely made it sound like his "Oh man I'm just as confused as you! Gee golly guess we better fU-" to "I know what you did last summer." act goes on for a LOOONG time. And Micah's! Hers sounds pretty short yeah but does she have multiple people at the table with her when she's getting your souls got? Or does she just go "NEXT BITCH!" since she's not very subtle about it being Hell. Then again I guess she wouldn't have to be? Since she deals with greedy people who are usually gambling addicts, they'd be cool with her saying it's hell since they're used to things being branded as satan-approved yeah?
So... do these funky dudes just have no concept of time, or do they do this all rather fast? Listening to This Is My Heart I assumed that James drags his thing on for months and then goes "Sayonara, BITCH." later. Kind of like... I assumed that he would fake having a relationship of sorts with the sinner? While doing his "Oh gee whiz grommit I got no clue what's going on here! Oh boy I sure hope we get out!" routine and then months later does his epic gamer moment.
And I guessed that Sarai's heaven fake-out thing would go on for a few hours, yk to make the sinner think it's actually heaven and to be close to a dinner party, and THEN she turns them into finger food.
In conclusion I'm obsessed with this series. Sarai is my favorite BY FAR. She's the most brutal it seems like but she's also the most justified in a sense? Like James has a LOT of justification and is so right for killing those people, but yk what I mean?? You can feel her rage and emotion during the song and she could probably get a sinner profusely apologizing before their demise just because of how understandable everything is.
James is just as if not more justified, but obviously some people will disagree with if he's in the right for the murders thing. I for one appreciate James. Especially because he did try! Yk like he didn't want to turn to killing, but he tried over and over again to get some justice and had to take it into his own hands.
Micah? I mean you don't need to justify much with Micah she's just chilling! Her backstory? Irrelevant. Micah might have my absolute favorite introduction for the sinners. Like, you know what you're in for when you sit down at her table. She's basically given you a big card that says "DO NOT PLAY! YOU WILL DIE!" so she doesn't need justification. She's an unproblematic queen.
I need to know this the most. Are the heads of each department friends? Like, on friendly terms? I know Micah and James are besties, theyre girlbossing, but do all of the heads have a friendship? Or do some stay strictly professional? a

I know that Micah deals with greed and Sarai is gluttony, but it seems like Sarai doesn't deal with the usual depiction of gluttony (yk like food shit) and instead deals with greedy bastards. like bill gates. people who hurt others for profit n stuff. while Micah just deals with people who hoard wealth?
which tbh I actually like that way more for the story, I've always thought that in stories it's a very touchy subject to make the sin of gluttony be food related. I feel like the only exception for food gluttony would be when you make it be like, cannibalism or something.
but I do like how Sarai still technically crosses into the greed territory. I feel like I can remember her being stated to be the head of gluttony AND greed? so I'm guessing that means she's supposed to mix the two.
which I like! having them cross in with the heads definitely is a good tool for making more characters and making the story more unique because of all the characters who interact with each other and their lore. Since if they didn't we'd just have Nina, the old devil who's name I forgor, James, Micah, Sarai, and the remaining sins.
@@XaiEia (however I do like the idea that they get to choose from the sinners. I can definitely see them choosing the worst of the worst because of how slow they torture while the best of the group of sinners get a quicker punishment)

I've loved all the Hell and Back songs, they're all amazing bops that I have on my favorite songs Playlist, but WOW!! This has to be my absolute favorite. The lyrics, the art, the speed, it all comes together so beautifully. Maybe I just have a soft spot for gluttony songs.
This also hits just right when I'm feeling particularly angry about capitalism and the ever-widening class gap. I work as a maid cleaning the houses of people who have more money than I could possibly spend, while I bust my autistic ass for $11 an hour plus tips. If they're willing to be generous and give me $5-$10 out of their millions that is.
I've read the lore and I understand this was written about immigration and systemic racism/gentrification. This is just how I relate personally :)

2:29 May be her when she was very young, and when her parents still owned the bakery. And the burning is the past being destroyed because of her boss destroying the bakery
