- A fat cat from Edmonton has made a splash on TikTok for his workout routine.
Peaches the Purrmaid, weighing nearly 25 pounds, has been swimming in an effort to lose weight.
During the pandemic, owner Chastity Emes attempted to get Peaches to accompany her on walks to drop the weight, but didn’t have much luck.
“I had a harness for him and tried to get him out of the condo, and we didn’t make it out of our hallway because he just kind of flopped over and decided it wasn’t going to happen,” Chastity Emes, Peaches’s owner.
With walks not being an option, Peaches took up swimming as part of her weight loss journey. Mason DePatie has that story.

Peaches reminds me of that news video years ago where a newscaster couldn’t stop laughing at a fat cat named Holly swimming for exercise. 🤣
There was a cat called Cinderblock who ran on a treadmill in water. Well, she lumbered, anyway. I often wonder how she got on.

that was a straight up side eye like he knew what she said 😆
This is good motivation for the owner to lose some weight too. They should do this together.
I think to be honest, it's only to be the cat in this situation
Even the pet is trying harder than the owner😭💀
My favorite part is Peaches waiting during the interview for the chance to give his side of the story.
Lmfao 😂
His side of the story is: they made me fat, now I have to suffer to loose that fat again and nobody is telling the trueth here, cause i will still have some skin left later and with that owner who made me eat to much, i will gain wait again. Its suffering for me and the people dont care, who to proper care about me as a pet in the first place. Just making money out of my suffering-poor peaches!
His response is "ef hoominz mayke mee xer-size, fat hoomin feedur need to xer-size tuu".
@@itsyourmethod Sadly true, it really is the owner's fault it even got to this point
@@itsyourmethod Cats and other animals having loose skin is a feature not a bug. This way if something grabs them they can turn around and bite it.
I love the zoom in on peaches little face when his owner says about him exerting himself hehe what a good little cat working to be healthier!
that hooman shouldn't be the one to talk 😅
That part was hilarious. He was so annoyed with the thought of having to "exert" himself
That cat is an ins-purr-ation to all animals and humans who are trying to lose weight 😊😊😊😊
Am I the only one who thinks this is a Twilight Zone Episode? 😂
hahaha
Pet weight is not always solely because they eat too much. I adopted an abused cat 4 months ago and it's been a roller coaster of trial and error. She was extremely thin when she moved in with me. I took her to the vet and thought I was giving her what she needed but because she seemed to be ALWAYS hungry I gave her a little more. She did gain weight to a healthy weight but soon surpassed that weight and was chunky. We went back to a strict diet and she's a very healthy weight now. She still seems hungry all the time. I've come to realize that when she wasn't being fed enough or regularly that she would gorge herself because she didn't know when she'd be fed again. Mealtimes are now strictly adhered to. She can have a few treats but I limit them. I distract her with play when she wants food but it's not time yet. She is also becoming more secure all the way around. Being abused and starved at a young age can scar them for life.
I watched a Jackson Galaxy video, because my cat was a feral kitten and always wants to eat too. He suggested (or maybe it was someone else) that cats "need" to hunt. I discovered that sometimes you can get the cat toys out and play with them and it will distract them. As in, they're not actually hungry, it's boredom or another mental thing.
I rescued a little abused kitten as well and same thing happened with her! She was just the tiniest little being, just skin and bones, and now she looks like a football every time winter rolls (ha! pun) around and she can't go on long walks with me as often. She gains weight super easily and she also sometimes still growls whilst eating, like she always did at the start, and occasionally hits her siblings when they are eating THEIR food just NEXT to her... Poor little ones being so mentally damaged by a bad start in life 😿
My cat will always ask for food, but that doesn't mean she's truly hungry. If you give when they meow or run to the place where the food is kept, you are training them to ask for it. Whatever you do, don't free feed. Measured meals is the way to go.
That said, worms and other parasites can be an actual cause of perpetual hunger. Even if your cat doesn't show visible signs or tested positive those, a couple of rounds of deworming meds and a round of antibiotics should be given to any rescue that's spent any prolonged time outdoors. The vets didn't recommend it, but I demanded it for my cats. My girl had soft poops for nearly 6 months, and that ended it instantly and cleared all eye and nose discharge.
This made me smile ear to ear! I have done this very thing with my boy Buddy Love, check my boys out on their channel. But amazing that you cared for Peaches to look for an option for him to get out and lose some weight.
Our cat family over here is cheering for Peaches and your guys health journey. 😊🎉❤
The side eye that cat got when she said "exert himself " sent me.

Ew. Don’t be rude and fatphobic. With cats it’s more straightforward, but nothing about health can be assumed from body size. HAES
@@Yelhsa0703 Obesity can cause diabetes and heart issues for humans as well. Fatphobia is not a thing, it's a made up term to shut other valid opinions down. The owner needs as much exercise as the cat
@@Yelhsa0703Yes it does
Peaches might be a little chubby, but he's a lucky boy to have a mom who loves him so much. All animals should know such love.
Uhm... His mom probably is the reason he is overweight in the first place. She should have adjusted his diet waaaay before he got to that size. Unless it was the previous owners fault and he's an overweight rescue, of course.
@@kimreni He wouldn't need a diet in the first place if they just properly fed him and not give him too much or extra snacks or even human food here and there.
In the video it says she doesn't like to walk or anything. So, I think that's got a lot to do with it.@@kimreni
@@kimreni yeah its likely that the owner made a mistake, but they are trying to fix it through diets and expensive excercise courses as soon as they noticed something’s not right. other owners in their place would just keep feeding the cat until its fat beyond recognition, even after they realize that their cat’s diet is too caloric. what im trying to say is- they might have made a mistake but that doesnt devalidate the love they have for their cat. they clearly care for the cat’s health and i can’t help but admire the effort theyve been putting to ensure the cat’s wellbeing.

I wish! My two ignore each other. The only exercise they get together is when one bops the other in the head.
Or just... You know... Don't give them unlimited access to food.
@@kimreni I give both my cats access to unlimited food. Both cats are very fit, with one easily jumping up to my 6ft shoe cabinet.
Not all cats are the same, but weight depends a lot on how much attention you give the cats.
@@HuyDao0014 I'm aware. My friend can free feed her cats, but my cats would overeat. I use a kitchen scale to prepare suitable portions for them at set feeding times. They are active outdoor cats, too. But still. They'll catch a mouse, eat it and ask for kibble 30 minutes later. Some cats just don't naturally stop so the owner's got to do it for them.
Two cats and feed them raw meat, that's their natural diet. Changed my cats lives entirely.
