- These stories will have you ready for the last day of school. In 2018, Regina Ballard, a North Carolina high school receptionist, belted out “At Last” over the PA system to celebrate the last day of school. After 16 years as an elementary school crossing guard in Florida, 92-year-old Robert Frew retired in 2021. In 2017, second graders were caught on camera nicely saying goodbye to their Georgia school’s security officer. Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall has more.

The last day of school is always the best just hits different when you know summer break is coming and especially the things the school may do.

The thing is, I actually kind of miss it. Of course, we don't miss the learning, the stressful tests and whatnot, we just miss the friends. Like there was a set time every day we'd meet up with our friends. Even in college, kinda. I just finished grad school, and honestly, I feel strange. There's no summer vacation for me, it's just now me finding a job. Damn

Priorities change. When I was a kid, I made up excuses to avoid schools ,but now in the pursuit of money I don't even take rest even when the situation is under my control. I wish I was more relaxed and easy going :(

However, if you do go to college of University, take note;
Time flies so much faster than you can imagine. HS might have felt long because you're constantly doing something, usually stuff like HW or boring work. Depending on what you do in college, you will have a lot of free time. That free time can come and go quickly. Make the absolute most of it

Most people that you graduate with you'll never see again. We were told this at graduation and it's true. They scatter to the wind 🌬

I remember in elementary school there was an older custodian named Mr. Bill. His technical birthday was February 29, so every 4 years. I remember at lunch time the school threw him a “sweet sixteen.” We had a blast, and he got so choked up at all the hugs and “happy birthdays” and little kids exclaiming things like “You’re sixteen?! But you’re not in high school!”

I feel bad for class of 2020 and 2021… I’m class of 2023 and I’m sorry you guys couldn’t experience school like us especially the last day. Really unfortunate.
Waste of a school year
Yeah, no kidding actually. Things went so south for us. Our graduation cruise evaporated, we missed months on months of study, which resulted in huge numbers of us flopping first year engineering at university. We'd missed too much to make it, our profs realized too late that they needed to make drastic changes unlike in their years prior. It's all a mess.

I didn’t like high school but cried like a baby after graduating from college. Saying goodbye to my college family was very hard.

I never met this man but my social studies teacher told us about him, he had served in the Korean War as a member of the Buffalo Rangers, which was the US’s only all black ranger unit, and after he left the army he worked as a custodian and bus driver at my school. He died around 15 years ago, but it’s crazy that someone who lived such an interesting life worked at my school, and we really don’t give teachers and school workers enough credit
I graduated from Montana State University in 1973. Upon completing my last final exam, I went to my car and headed to California, attracted by girls, sun and hot cars. I was already in California by the time the graduation ceremony took place. It has turned out to be a great move.

I never even went to the last day of any of my schools. There was nothing to go to or to celebrate. Had horrible school experiences from age 5-18. No regrets not going.

The best thing that happened to me on my last day of school was leaving and never look back. Never went Into any reunion either. Not one person especially to those that I made friends from my Highschool days has ever contacted me.

@@squiggleworks9 That's the majority of students. I hated school ever since kindergarten but first grade was my first mental scar. Gave a girl a flower. She plucked the petals off and threw the flower in the middle of the class. Teacher made me pick it up the mess while I was crying and the other students laughed at me. Was not able to ask someone out till I was 25. School did nothing but give me mental scars and realize that in school "Sports Stars" can get away with ANYTHING. Things did not get better till Junior year I went to a smaller school across the street from the public school. Only like sixty students were there. Was able to focus on just school work instead of all the social pressure that public school has.

Mine was June 3rd 2009 long before the pandemic a simple time. Before you got to leave early you had to pass your senior speech if you didn't they held you back. Let me tell you after seeing a young woman crying her eyes after failing I was very nervous. So nervous that I gave the best speech in over 20 years. The teachers kicked themselves for not recording anymore. Anyways the few passing seniors (I mean few) got out about 3 weeks early and we did our graduation ceremony and one last walk. Well now 11 years later I've got a job that I've been working at for a decade, I drive, and have a wonderful girlfriend so life is good for me

I dont miss high school at all. The last person I ever missed at school was my grade 2-5 teacher. I dont miss high school. I was so glad to leave and while I have good memories and experiences, the way people treat the last day of school has changed a lot since I graduated. The gen z have more dramatic ways to end school. This is even before covd. I dont mind driving by my old high school, but never would want to return to high school years. I never stayed for my junior high graduation party after the ceremony. I went to the mall and wore jeans to the ceremony. I went to my banquet and ceremony for high school but I went to a dry after grad and it was far more fun the rest of the students had but I went to a movie with my family and left early. I never took high school grad seriously at the time, I just wanted my diploma and thats it

Same here, i will praise mr Brian Armstrong over and over again because he has great skills, i started with $2000 and after 2week i received a returns of $6,000 then i continue with him ever since he has been delivering.

Still love my janitor from elementary, I might be 20 now but that man made a huge impact on the kids and definitely knew how to make those extra lonely kids not so lonely -
When I was at Eaton Middle School, at the end of each year when I was there, the principal had Nah Nah Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye play. It was the Nah Nah Hey Hey part on replay. It really hit different when it was my 8th grade year, the last time I'll get to hear it. I could've left early that day, but I didn't see my family waiting to pick me up. I'm glad I didn't see them because I would've missed that yearly tradition. I don't know if Eaton still does it because my last year there was also the last year of my principal because he went to a different school.

I’m just happy for summer break, of course I will miss my friends but a time for myself is just my dream. And also because of the stress in making new friends and projects. But anyway, I’m really smart so I think I can handle my next grade.

The worst is the summer you graduate High School. You realize you will never see some of these people again. What's even worse is that it hits you much later. Not to mention, you always wonder "what if" no matter how much or how little you did.

Yah. No... I HATED grade school. My parents forced me to go to my graduation ceremony. After it was all over I never looked back. I haven't looked at my yearbooks or anything from high school for 22 years now. On my high school s*** is still in a box with a biohazard sticker on it in the garage.
