i really love that when Moon gives Spearmaster the Mark of Communication, she doesn't send them Fucking Flying like Pebbles does with the other slugs, it's like she's gently patting them while Pebbles is throwing the square at them at high speed
I've only played through Spearmaster once so I never saw what happens if you actually go to Pebbles before Moon!! Insane how there's so much content in this DLC that most players are going to miss

I mean, he knows what Iterators are capable of, and his 2 feet away from one that looks very mad and just ragdolled a thing out of his chest, so I think his right to be afraid

Seeing this, I definitely think that Spearmaster should be played after Rivulet. Luckily you get that choice. The way that the end of Rivu is set up just perfectly leads into Saint I think. You can even see Rivu's breath after their ending, implying it's getting colder. Some areas like moon's city and comms array have snow aswell. It leads into it. But I can see why they ordered it from difficulty. Either way, Saint is honestly nuts with its mechanics and story. Can't wait to see you play it

Personally I think it would have been better narration-wise to first play spearmaster and visit moon while she was still almost fully functioning: it creates a painful realization of how grand she was and what was lost, without knowing if she will ever really get better; and then you play rivulet which is the quest to give a little bit of moon's power back. I feel like playing in this order makes spearmaster 's story more poignant, which was a bit lacking if you play it right after rivulet. Anyway yeah I agree lol
I hope everyone's brushed up on their Rainworld lore, otherwise it's a lot of difficulty for not much reward. Worth it if you're deep in the lore, though.
@Pebbsi_official Artificer comes a little bit after Spearmaster. it's just that Arti cannot enter LttM Superstructure as the usual entrances are blocked off in Waterfront. it's only after Artificer that she fully collapses.
The lore on each of these has just been increasing. Gourmand was just chunky slug cat finding friends. Artificer was a tale of revenge and regret but had no real impact. Rivulet was showing us what happened afterwards and how we helped Moon. And Spearmaster was a message dilivery for the iteraters. What’s going to happen with Saint??
After artificers time in the timeline, there are no more scavenger on the wall. The fact that it's a pretty good habitat for them and artificers ending makes me believe artificer had something to do with their absence
but they pretty much don't know anything about rain world lore when they didn't know what cycles iterators were talking about lol. this is gonna be a disaster
I really liked Spearmaster's campaign cuz combat is one of the most fun aspects of the game to me. My only complaint is that I wish SRS gave Spearmaster a little bag or pouch so I didn't have to use 1 hand to hold my stomach pearl for half the game. My dumbass went through Exterior, and having to kill like 20 lizards/spiders and avoid snappy birds was really annoying with only 1 spear.
*Some spoilers for several scug campaigns:* I spent nearly 200 cycles as Spearmaster. Seeing Moon, then Pebbles to understand him, then collecting every colored pearl and broadcast I could. Befriending the scavs, feeding lizards spearmaster's seconds, really grinding out passages. His place on the timeline and involvement in the plot (even before the game starts, its not his first time seeing the local iterators, or 5p at least) is basically what allows the rest of original Rainworld to happen. He helps 5p learn how to first start the experiments, he saves moon from complete agony and perpetual decay by allowing NSH to get a report on moon's status (Thus starting Hunter's quest to deliver a slag reset key and reply message, and leads to cannon elements of monk's campaign), he is the first scug we know of to visit 5p, prior to arti, hunter, and gourmand. By the time gourmand has shown up in 5p's can, 5p realizes he cant stop them from wandering in, even with his facility in lockdown, and allows the path to outer expanse to be opened, hoping to direct the slugcats elsewhere. Spearmaster is the catalyst for almost all the events in rainworld, and as you listen to more broadcasts you realize SRS's science experiment was based off of work NSH had already been doing with purposed slugcat organisms, which means Hunter wasnt the only one NSH created, even at this extremely early point in the timeline. We also learn SRS ends up caring and worrying for Spearmaster quite a lot in the end, and is terrified their attempts to help their friend 5p will result in even more harm to SM (with SRS losing all idea of what happens after 5p destroys SRS's red overseer). Spearmaster is no arti, no rivulet, no bodyslamming void bomb crafting gourmand. He's just a lizard that doesnt need to really sleep or eat like a normal scug does, and can make spears, and backflip slightly better then most, yet arguably survives and thrives in the most hostile part of the timeline's ecosystems. His full story was the most emotional one for me in Downpour.
spoiler I love how in the end we get to see the scug return to the iterator. It's happy to be home and they both seem sorrowful about what is soon going to happen.

As a quick note, i will list some of my spearmaster headcannons >:) Their actual name is Seven little stars, Named by seven red suns. They wear some form of Poncho/robe, which suns made sometime after they returned Spearmaster's personality is very Calm, but also somewhat emotional They yelp as vocalizing

Seven Red Suns told Five Pebbles about how to do something, which they messed up and contracted the Rot through that; SRS knew beforehand that something like that could happen. Am I getting that right? Feels like I really need to rewatch this entire series, since I only started trying to understand the story this year, but that feels like important Lore to me; unlike how it was treated here.
From survivor pearls you learn most of RW's story. The DLC adds bits and pieces to make it have more fluff. In survivor you learn that SRS told FP how to use genetic engineering to give himself admin access to himself (which he would use to kill himself). The process took too much water and moon interrupted him out of panic at a critical moment, creating the rot. FP trying to flush out the rot took even more water and so moon's structure was destroyed.
@@cooly1234Yayy glad you elaborated for them :) The rot was originally a form of targeted cancer- not unlike radiation used in chemotherapy, used to kill specific cells in his body. Since he is forbidden from harming himself, he exploited a loophole by creating an organism to do it for him.
Fun fact: the gate that spearmaster came out of is home to the western intake system. This can be accessed as gourmand, survivor, and monk (and basically and other slugcat that can access Outer Expanse)
Ah yes, Chimney. I finally escaped the sky bridge shelter after using a couple starvation cycles (to preserve karma). Ended up collecting seven masks (three kings) there.
The first time i played spearmaster i tossed the pearl off The Wall cuz i thought i didnt need it anymore and as soon as my friend told me "no hey you need that" i couldnt get it to respawn in a shelter So i just went and ascended instead lol

In Downpour theres a secret SIXTH SLUGCAT, which you can unlock by: Typing "sofanthiel" on the main menu. no, you don't need to type it anywhere, just type it on the main menu, while nothing is selected. don't type it with uppercase, etc. just all lowercase. The slugcat is called Inv, Enot, and a lot of other names. Inv is NOT canon. It is a joke character. I wont tell what Inv changes, but I'll just say; You're not going to like it. :) PS. You have to have the More Slugcats Expansion (Downpour) enabled for this to work.

The first time i played spearmaster i tossed the pearl off The Wall cuz i thought i didnt need it anymore and as soon as my friend told me "no hey you need that" i couldnt get it to respawn in a shelter
So i just went and ascended instead lol

The unsolicited spoilers in twitch chat go crazy. it’s actually really annoying lmao, if you’ve played rain world and understand the lore, then you should know that the poignancy of the story and experience comes from experiencing things for yourself. I had to spend so much time doing my own playthroughs before I watch these uploads, not because of slurry’s gameplay, but because of twitch chat :/
It’s so frustrating seeing a setup for skurry learning a fun, interesting mechanic and then someone just puts the answer in chat right away

@@catpoke9557 in this playthrough, certain feeding mechanics were spoiled, for artificer, the karma system was spoiled, and there was just generally a lot of things that should have been left to self-discovery and weren’t. Whether or not Skurry reads them and gets spoiled is one thing, but the whole audience sees the spoilers too which irks me

In Downpour theres a secret SIXTH SLUGCAT, which you can unlock by:
Typing "sofanthiel" on the main menu. no, you don't need to type it anywhere, just type it on the main menu, while nothing is selected. don't type it with uppercase, etc. just all lowercase.
The slugcat is called Inv, Enot, and a lot of other names.
Inv is NOT canon. It is a joke character.
I wont tell what Inv changes, but I'll just say; You're not going to like it. :)
PS. You have to have the More Slugcats Expansion (Downpour) enabled for this to work.
