  • Fly fishing a hidden river pool for coarse species with the GoPro hero 8. There has been lots of debate regarding the exact identification of these fish with a lot of people on facebook groups saying dace, a lot saying chub and some saying both. I would love to hear your opinion in the comments below! If you enjoyed this video please don't forget to like and subscribe!

    Great video. I really get excited when I see people fly fishing for coarse fish. It’s a lovely stretch of river you’re fishing. You’ve got some great casting skill as well, although I’m curious as to wether you lost a few flies in those beaches!!
    It’s a great feeling when you do hook up with the fly, get to n the carp on the fly if you can, they are an awesome battle. I’m definitely going to pinch that Kate McLaren pattern from you; it seems to work really well. Thanks for sharing.

    Great vid, really enjoyed that you kept experimenting, those Dace were lovely fish
    I've had plenty of chub on the sedge, they usually like a trigger colour (green or red) which you have as the tag.
    Try fishing upstream but keep a tighter line, as the fish will often hook themselves

      Thank you I’ll have to give it a go, I’m fairly new to fly fishing and hadn’t really considered casting upstream but I’ll give it a go next time I’m out. Thanks for the advice!

    The big ones hang out with the small ones and tend to be less aggressive and the small ones are so aggressive that they will chase rooster tails the size of them.

    I don't know if I want to get into fly fishing because I try its once and it was a mess. What if you hooked a 20lbs fish can you pull it to shore?

    • @adventurefishinguk
      @adventurefishinguk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve not found myself in that situation yet unfortunately haha but plenty of people catch salmon that size on the fly. You’d be able to land any size fish if you had the appropriate strength line and gear!

    Great video …I find the bigger chub tend to reside at the top end / head of a pool with smaller fish shoaled behind them…I use lightly dressed size 14,16 and 18 wide gape barbless trout hooks and short fluoro coloured tails which seems to help hook up rates…a lightly beaded 1.5 or 2 mm dia tungsten nymph hanging behind a dry fly works well too early mornings / late evenings …thanks for sharing your experiences on the river

  • @simonbeckwith

    Now then!
    I'd imagine, absolute guess though based on my own experience... bigger bait, bigger fish potentially?
    Chub seem to love the Salmo Rattlin' Hornet, is that what you were using beforehand?

    • @adventurefishinguk
      @adventurefishinguk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now then Simon, i had the sinking hornet on for a bit beforehand. Managed one trout and kept getting small nibbles without any proper takes so I decided to try fly. I know another stretch of the same river where the chub are much bigger, those ones will definitely be falling victim to the Salmo hornet in the near future. Thanks for the comment!

    • @simonbeckwith
      @simonbeckwith 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries! Try the floating version too, it will dive when you retrieve to about a metre max, but a slow retrieve will keep it shallow. Works a treat for me 😉

    • @adventurefishinguk
      @adventurefishinguk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Beckwith I have a couple in my box, I’ll start using them more I think I’m just naturally a bit more drawn to the sinking one because of the slightly more vibrant colour! Just ordered some salmo lil bugs in ladybird, beetle and wasp looking forward to trying those out too
