    These are the painting videos I always wished someone would create: knowledgable, fast paced, inspiring and helpful. Thank you so much! Phenomenal editing. Please keep making these. You fulfill an important void in TH-cam art videos?

    Stunning ! I can't paint like this. If I paint the sky like in your video then I can't paint tree or something else over the oil paint. All the colors mixed and it looks bad. Where am I doing mistake ?

    • @PaintBasket
      @PaintBasket  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you start the painting try not to add any, or only a tiny amount, of medium to your paint so it stays as thick as possible. Only add enough medium for the paint to spread properly. Then when you get to the trees, etc that overlap add more medium to the paint. The thinner paint will lie on top of the thicker paint. Also use softer and softer pressures and softer and softer brushes for subsequent layers so that you don't move the paint underneath.
      If none of that works, then paint more than one painting at a time. Then you can paint the other painting while you wait for the sky to dry on the first. Once the paint is dry on the first then you will have no problem painting the trees over the sky :)
      Good luck and let me know if that helped.

    Hi Nolan, I see that you apply acrylics so easy to the canvas and the paint covers the canvas properly. Do you use medium tooth canvas? When I paint on a smoothly sanded canvas, acrylics kind of slip on the surface not covering in like you do in the video. Can you advise please?
    Thanks!

    • @PaintBasket
      @PaintBasket  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OLEG LITVAK your canvas is too smooth so it has no tooth to grip onto. I use my canvasses as is without any further prep.

  • @oleglitvak6177
    @oleglitvak6177 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nolan, thanks for the quick reply - that is what I suspected though most of experienced acrylic artists do recommend a smooth canvas surface for acrylics and many even paint on smooth gesso panels.
    But in my case, I forgot to mention also, that it happens when I paint an object over the top of the previously painted coat of paint after blocking in background. So it makes the surface smooth anyway and kind of placticky and paint glides on it... Does it change anything or is there any solution to that?
    Thanks again!

    • @PaintBasket
      @PaintBasket  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OLEG LITVAK the only real solution is to then start painting more impasto as you build up the layers. PS - I don't recommend smoothing a canvas for general painting. The only time I do it is when I want to have a super smooth effect on the final artwork, like with a portrait. In that case you will be painting very thin layers of paint so need a smoother surface.
