George Condo: In the Studio

  • This fall, we joined George Condo in his New York studio ahead of two major openings, his London exhibition, ‘Ideals of the Unfound Truth’ and the largest survey of his career to date, at the Long Museum in Shanghai, ‘The Picture Gallery.’
    ‘My works embraces the everyday man, the everyday woman, the everyday person. Even the most beautiful person in the world will tell you: ‘Sometimes, when I look in the mirror, I just feel so horrible.’ And I’d rather capture the extremes of human nature. I need to be able to live with myself as an artist. I need to be able to live with who I am. Otherwise, I’m just a puppet. I’m a liar. I’m not a real artist. I’m a pawn on a chessboard being played by some greater power.’-George Condo

    I really appreciate the freedom George Condo gives himself in his drawings. His imagery of women and men and his humor attracts attention. Keep well George Condo. Great Gallery Hauser and Wirth

    What a fascinating glimpse into the mind of Condo. You can see the influence of Picasso in these new works. I can't wait to see these new shows.

      The show had some terribly chosen work. They were like drawings on top of abstract paintings. Like he never went back after the drawing. You will see what I mean.

    So generous to show us how he works in his practise. It's like a sedation not sure if it's his voice but usually towards the end I fall asleep so I watch it usually twice.

    It woulda been pretty funny in my peabrain of an imagination, if that last shot of the camera pulling back out of the studio, kept pulling back to reveal that it's just a set piece in a Paul McCarthy film/artwork/sculpture/whatever.

    • @MontyCantsin5

      All art is political and nothing Condo said was remotely controversial.

    • @1caseyk
      @1caseyk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MontyCantsin5 I hold political art as nothing better than pamphleteering. It is applied art, at best. What were Michelangelo's politics? Titians? Monets? Now, let's talk religion...all art has religious information.

    • @MontyCantsin5
      @MontyCantsin5 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@1caseyk: I don't agree with that at all. All art comes out of a particular political climate: it's not something that needs to be overtly visible in, for example, a finished painting. Religion, by contrast, has largely dwindled in significance and almost no artists working today are reliant upon church patrons or supernatural beliefs to create images.

    I do wish people who label themselves, or are labelled by others, as artist wouldn’t call their stuff ‘work’. People trapped in factories, offices or whatever are working. It’s playing, and for a very few, very lucrative play indeed.

    • @minkapippi6530
      @minkapippi6530 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      as someone who has worked in the service industry and as an artist. being a fulltime artist is work. only 30 percent of it is "playing" and even that is not necessarily joyful when you have overheads to pay and deadlines to meet.

    Well I don't believe we are vessels of a greater power or higher power .I think we should all own who we are . We are all good bad ugly beautiful all the time and we seek ways to justify our behavior during our lives. What if humans were born without eyes and we only could hear and smell but not see , would we have invented a higher power to explain our lives or to blame for our lives or to glorify our existence?

    همیشه از خود سئوال میکردم،خداوند در زمان هشت ساعت استراحتش به چه کاری مشغول است،تا یک روز فهمیدم نقاشی یکی از کارهایی است که او دائمآ انجام میدهد،بوم او گستره دریا ها ،کوهها، و برگ برگ درختان است،اول باورم نشد و به فهم خود خندیدم،ولی بعد با دیدن کوهها و گذر از دریا ها و دقت در درختان، همه چیز بر من ثابت شد.قلم موی او باد،و رنگها در سایه روشن فاصله هاست که پدید می آید،یک نقاشی چند مشخصه با داشته باشد تا در قالب هنر گنجانده شود،باید از وقایع روز یا اتفاقات و داستانهای کهن کفتگو کند،یا از رویای نقاش، و یا میتواند با تلفیق رنگها زیبایی آفریده باشد بدون هیچ منظوری .در این میان نقاشان آپستره از همه احمقترند چون کسی که به این مقام میرسد باید بداند که او تنها وسیله است دستها در اختیار او نیستند،او در میان دو نیرو قرار گرفته است یعنی واسطه ایست که میتواند با اتصال به مبدآ انرژی قوه را به فعل برساند .و آنها این را نمی دانند.،نقاشیهای شما زیباست استاد.،🌹۰
