I had never heard of George so I googled him. Immediately I saw the word "SINGULAR" being used to describe his strokes and immediately nodded in approval. I've never seen anything quite this heavy/thick, nor have I seen someone paint their whole portrait with a putty knife and their fingers :D
@@sampathkumar8873 isn't this just beautiful? I've gotten the impression that many of the greatest artists, particularly painters, don't seem to like to reveal their process. Being allowed a glimpse lile this into a man's studio as well as his work is truly a gift!
As an impasto and mixed media artist myself , nearly as old as George, I know the hard struggle it would take ,battling away every day at the canvas for years, to make art this good ! I have admired his work for many years. A true Master Painter. His landscape works, in my opinion are some of the finest ever produced by a British artist past or present. When are we going to see a decent book on his life and work . It is surely long over due.. Also a documentary film on his life is required.
@@yukiwyngaard2202 I am with you. Just saw his work, thanks to TH-cam, Michael Richardson, and all that made these films possible. Remarkable. Still painting…should be praised. I’m inspired!
Ok, it’s not very often you find a real artist of this calibre making paintings on TH-cam. Didn’t know this artist but he is clearly the real deal. Great work
Mazing work-=> and film-making excellence. As a painter, I’ve long sought SOMEone to evoke the struggling process by merely silently recording and aiding the view of how a painter thinks. Thank you!
The messiest artist I've ever seen BUT one of the very best talents. To produce such artistic creations from what initially appears to be slopped on paint is truly artistic.
Seeing artists in their spaces full of paint, ink, chalk, dust, whatever it may be, is absolutely amazing to see. Seeing them at their most passionate and most elite, society should treasure more
If you listen to this with the volume up and there may be people around to overhear it be forewarned that the audio could be a little misleading. I recommend loudly saying things that would indicate that you are watching an art documentary and not something else. Remember to also try to avoid ambiguous phrases when you do this, for instance, say "wow, wonderful brushwork" rather than "oh yeah stroke it baby." Hope this helps.

A wonderful artist,I'm glad to have come across this man and he's gift, truly inspiring as I'm a little creative,George Rowlett is new to me and I'm grateful, striking
Amazing on so many levels - how long did it take to dry? How much oil paint did he use and waste? How many times did he feel like smushing it up or throwing it out the window? Why didn’t his chair leg ever snap? It’s all brilliant 😊
Just discovered George. To my knowledge he's made this Van Gogh via Frank Auerbach space his own. (Though I think he even out-does Auerbach in the thickness of his surfaces.) I've located every on-line image of his paintings that I can find. Some are just extraordinarily beautiful. I know pictures aren't the same as the original, but from what I've seen, many terrific artists go their whole lives without equaling the beauty of his best.
This is fantastic. I like it so much. Brilliant idea of painting this way. As if he was trying to say that he is old or maybe it was or is a process of becoming. Very vague, could be either getting old with no definition or could be a person becoming as such. Very mixed feelings and different kinds of interpretation.
George is an original. No one like him. The way George agonizes over one of his works as a master of his trade. I admire every painting of his I've viewed, as well as the man himself. Long into history will Georges works be representative of the craft. Hallelujah!
I’m new to this so I really don’t know what I’m looking at. That being said when you see greatness you just know it. Ive stared at this painting for about an hour now what an experience. Truly a work to be proud of.
How George applies his clumps of paint and conjures up a cohesive image is totally mind blowing.

Yes! to both
If you want to see a semi documentary on him, watch George Rowlett at 80: A story of four paintings. It is really good, just search the web.
Can’t believe out of all that chaos something amazing turns up … I’m blown away by his work
Such good work. He trusts his process.
A genius at work.
We need to see more of him.
Such a an energised man, come rain, snow, wind, nothing stops him from his work in the open, inspirational
Wow, that is the absolute best 8 minutes I’ve experienced in a very long time. Thanks for posting 🙏🏼
Fantastic. He's my brother. Sandra Hather
Learning by watching, but... Would like to meet the man. Please, let's make it happen. M.
Amazing ❤️
Great Artist he is
Really?
We see the face in beginning, fantastic.
The beauty is in the perseverance to make art in this harsh and cruel world sustaining as an artist is hard very hard

Fascinating to watch him go to another level of consciousness to create....
No words can even explain this talent
Yes they can 🤭 his name is Jack B. Yeate's.
Absolutely incredible. And to think that they're all still drying to this day...
His skill just blows my mind. WOW!!!!!

So much humanity staring back out from those portraits fantast work very inspiring...
The carefulness and precision of his strokes contrast nicely with the chaotic nature of his painting.
I think he’s a brilliant artist. His paintings of flowers are sensational.
These are absolutely amazing
Je découvre cet artiste, il est tellement incroyable.. très mystique et très talentueux. J’aime son « univers »…

Impressionnant la manière et la dédication que cet artiste porte pour son art, merci pour cette vidéo qui exprime la passion de George Rowlett
Such a talented artist. Amazing to watch him paint.
Just beautiful work. So glad to have this shared before it goes into someones private collection tucked away where only a few will see.

Crazy how he was able to capture so much detail and the age of the subject with all of that impasto, thats not easy.
