I have bought one of these as I need to pull the pinion from an old Nikko Dictator motor. I’m a new by and it seems easy enough to pull it off, but what about how to put it back on without risking damaging the motor?

You can try cooking the motor in the freezer and heating the pinion, so the motor contracts and the pinion expands just make sure you allow the motor to warm back up and dry any condensation before you run it :)

I have been looking at this tool. It's got a pretty bad rap on Amazon. People think the metal is weak. You made that look easy. Is it robust enough to remove a worn 14T pinion from a 1/16 truck?

If used correctly yeh I've had it ages and it still helps remove them stuck pinions :)

Beginner here....When is it necessary to pull a pinion gear? Like when changing a motor? I mean if I wanted to upgrade from a 280 or 380 motor to 540 I just pull the pinion and put it onto the new motor correct?

The pinion pullers are mostly used when the grub screw has rounded off on the bigger motors so you can't remove the pinion, I wouldn't expect a 280/380 motor to have the same sized pinion os a 540 as the shaft is normally much bigger diameter on 540 but yeh you could use a puller to remove the pinion all the same :)

Doesn’t work for a bigger pinion?

Works as long as it fits round the pinion and there are 3 different shaft sizes

Interesting way of removing a stuck pinion but I don’t understand why people don’t just use a screw extractor?

Sometimes the extractors don't work it's just nice to have another option :)

@@WTFRCCars I've got a stuck pinion with the screw already out. I must have used too much thread locker. Thanks for sharing.

A pinion puller should move it and won't damage the motor:)

Sometimes the grub screw is not the problem. Save the bearings in your motor and the integrity of your motors shaft and use a great tool like this. Thanks
