Yes you do. On both PC & mobile. I've found sometimes on Mobile you start up with fewer diamonds when resetting over & over again because of R&G of finding them in chests.

You can leash a follower to the astari temple to make them your followers, no need to kill them
Funny you mention this. I do this in my New Playthrough I recorded weeks ago & rolling out to my TH-cam. So many different fun ways to play Godus. :)
When in Mobile I was REALLY Poor in gems and Belief when I got the finger of god and defeated the astari
