I had no idea about her until I started watching HIGNFY (I'm an emigre) and if ever I were to have a fave celebrity couple it would be Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman ( ;P ) but then beloved runners up would be David and Victoria Coren-Mitchel.
Both of them are some of the best people you could be friends with I'd imagine, I love them both. VCM is great at poker & was amazing on Taskmaster. David Mitchell has done some of the funniest bits and seems to be a genuine legend tbh.
Paul and Ivo look like they are the pilot for a new series where a son when to the city to reinvent himself as a posh boy, but his working class dad comes to live with him and hilarity ensues!

I live in Texas and I have been watching this show for years. I love it. And to top it all off, Ivo is wearing a shirt I have had for longer than Ivo has been alive -- I bought it at a garage sale at least 30 years ago and I still wear it. sweet little surprise there.
I went to the original quality street street the other day where they were first produced. Only one guy lives there now, but thankfully he's both Turkish and and a Delight!!
I'm a 60's child like Paul and I can verify we did used to watch black and white television through Quality Street wrappers to make it look like it was in colour. They were hard times.
We used to read the regular 'Times' newspaper through the pink cellophane off the strawberry one and pretend we were reading the 'Financial Times'... xx SF
And David's even more lucky to have her. They make a great match. I loved watching them when she was on his team on WILTY. Their banter was perfect, you could tell that they cared deeply for each other and were very comfortable.
Had the pleasure of playing Poker against Victoria many years ago. And she is so naturally funny in real life. And a really nice person too. And yes she did knock me out of an event. Stung a bit as it was only one place off the money :(

The theory was that someone in the production room (who can see the cards live) could've sent a signal to her (even though they're not supposed to have phones in that room either). And for what it's worth, this poker player agrees with Victoria. I don't think it was cheating. I think she either misread her hand or just panicked in a high pressure spot.

Join a casual sports club (or something similar of your taste), and hang out with people who have good relationships with their parents. Enjoy your time there!
I assume it's that the scores are largely ceremonial like QI, like does anyone really care who 'wins' this show? Add in that they probably edit out a lot, so the final scores are pretty much just random numbers. Never Mind The Buzzcocks was the same, they would say Bill Bailey's team had 10 points going into the final round, do the 60 second next lines round (which lasted 30 seconds after the edits), they'd get 5 right and end the show with 19 points.
Victoria is a gem! Great episode this week. Paul Merton was hilarious...if they sold Quality Street here in America, I'd go buy a tin to look thru the yellow wrappers ...thank you for posting!!😂😄😁
So much to say: Mr. Mitchell you’re a lucky man. Pall just one of the greatest comedians Britain has ever produced . Has there ever been a head of the British government that this panel has liked. The only one I ever recall them saying anything good about was Boris Johnson’s speaking ability. Very good show. The two permanent panel members were in excellent form and of course the moderator was excellent as you would expect from that very special lady.
BTW, Gordon Brown (who I do not support) went to a selective school because there were no comprehensive schools at the time. Kirkcaldy High School was and remains a school in a reasonably deprived area.
I loooove that woman! "Aubergine, Aubergibe, Aubergine, chair leg"! And, "If you have a good strong hand..." Paul's complaining over Vic's poker-talk almost ruined her joke. Very happy she finished.

@@goyatley There was a recent short interview of Ian and Paul (on YT somewhere) where they admitted that the host had what resembled a script, whilst the team ad-libbed. You're right though in that VCMs delivery was excellent.
It's the only thing on TV that makes me laugh. I was lucky and went to a recording of the show. Fabulous experience! Ian Hislop is Paul's straight man. He has his moments though.

yay, I'm so glad Victoria weighed in on the poker scandal. I watch fellows who are body language experts and none of them thought she was cheating. You know she gave the guy the money back because he refused to play further and she didn't want to ruin the game so he's a f*** p*** and she should have been able to keep the money.
I feel like the editors did Victoria an injustice when she was analyzing the poker cheating allegation (probably for comedy timing purposes). What she said (that was left in the video) really didn't make sense -- the alleged cheater had J (club) and 4 (heart), her opponent had 7 (club) and 8 (club), and the board was 10 (heart), 10 (club), 9 (club), and 3 (heart). The editors must have removed some important contexts in order to put Victoria's saying "so mathematically her hand is ahead" right after her describing the numerous ways in which the alleged cheater's opponent could win the hand, which in fact put him ahead. This is not a complaint about the program since comedy is the goal. But as a poker and Victoria fan, I was really looking forward to her take on this scandal lol.
