One of the most realistic gear overview. I will only add some navigation tools, (very important), a baseball cap, a mosquito net and some sunglasses. I will also replace the flashlight with a headlamp.
Luckily I have all this stuff to include the Swanee you’re wearing!😂 but must say it took many years to accumulate them. I keep a lot of this stuff in my RAV4. I never understood why so many people don’t carry these essential items with them on the road, especially during the winter months. It’s good you are covering this topic with everyone.😊
Oh, I also found if you break a lot of this stuff in separate kits, it is easier to identify what you need quickly and to also shift around when you need to make space for something your hauling at the time. I broke mine down to for example, a good cook kit to include a small stove, my brew kit for coffee, hot chocolate or cup a noodles, my cutting tool kit for Boco saw, axe, hatchet, knife etc,,, warm weather and rain gear, light bag which contains headlamp, spot light and extra batteries, chow bag with a few freeze dried meals and MREs and most important a water jug and my Grayl. I have used all this stuff in my 64 years and have bailed out other people as well. Especially during a mandatory evacuation in the 90s from two hurricanes in North Carolina when we were stuck in grid lock on the interstate in the middle of nowhere. I was feeding my wife and little kids at the time when several people walked up to our car asking for water and what ever spare snacks we had. They had nothing in their cars at all. Of course I gave it to them because I had plenty. My wife use to ride me for being Mr. Overkill Marine, but she quite doing that after this happened.😂😊
Excellent video! My sleep system is a military bivy, OV ultralight -30 down bag, sea to summit extreme liner, and and a insulated pad. Also, check out Fenix lights. These things are amazing and hold a charge forever! I have torture tested mine a lot down to negative 15 degree temps.
Agree with most. Steel or titanium good, heating in/on aluminum ( or plastic) cook kit bad. Grail and MSR are cats butt in purification, not just filtration. Titan Suvivorcord is worth skipping a few lunches vs. 550 cord. Temu seems to be the best place for camping pads. Leatherman with the scalpel insert is the multitool way. Go with the Gorilla always. EDC torch that clips on the brim gives you two hands again. BTW......Have you been practicing hitting your local repeaters????? Keep up the good work.
Always love these list. Got our van back from a wreck and ready for winter adventure. Getting our gear organized and make sure we have what we need. Thanks for the video. P.S. Made us a wool poncho from old army blankets for winter. It's all your fault I spent 2 weeks making the wool ponchos but it was worth it. Great combination with a waterproof poncho. Now I have to try an Adirondack long pullover. You also the cause of our wool shirt and bank line obsession that's both me and Mr. B. Oh heck we have a gear obsession period.
I have used the Toaks long handle titanium spoon for several years and I really like using it. Lightweight, surprisingly affordable and durable. I appreciate the polished bowl alot too. I like it so much I bought the knife, fork and spoon set and I use them as my only flatware at home. Also surprisingly affordabke.
Great Information. I’m all for great made in USA 🇺🇸 knives however bought a couple dozen Ozark Trail knives on clearance for $3/knife on clearance the past few weeks. Great reviews on a couple channels. As for tourniquets, buy a pre-made tourniquet such as a CAT or ratchet tourniquet belt. Don’t buy crap; spend the $$ to buy good brand tq. I wear a Parabelt nearly every day, for approximately 6 years now; a belt that’s also a ratchet tourniquet. Also carry 2 CAT and 2 SOF T in my go-bag.
All you said I've done. But I've learned from hikers. My backpack weight is lightened by a chest rig and survival belt. Plus I added trekking poles for balance and making shelters. Bushcraft guys need to learn off hikers and hikers need to learn off Bushcraft guys.
Put my hand in my pocket for a good civilian bivi last summer and you're right, does make a difference. I reverted back to foam sleep pads too, they are reliable and not expensive so if you have a mishap it's easily replaced. The only area you didn't mention that's hugely important is footwear. I would say get that right first then your pack because if either of those is wrong for you it will ruin your time in nature quick smart.
I'm missing two categories: navigation and signaling. For the rest I agree and have these categories covered on every trip. I say categories because I normally don't carry an ax or saw but a machete instead. I prefer a synthetic sleeping bag over down because the 'down'fall of down is that it doesn't insulate well when wet. We all have preferences also depending on where we're going. But overall a good video.
Have the essential gear, but also the knowledge to use them efficiently. And I'd like to pose a question ? Fluid retention in cold weather situations. to pee or not to pee that is the question?
I agree with your gear recommendations , but one thing about the Leatherman Wave + , I didn't know how limited the prying power of the pliers are until I snapped them while trying to remove the bail handle off of my bushpot . An expensive lesson in a Broken Leatherman , maybe Linesman 's pliers would be a better choice for me , along with a 6" Nicholson Bastard File .
Yep. Those needle nose pliers are not as sturdy as a good pair of linesman pliers. May be a good upgrade if you are willing to carry the extra tools and weight.
Good content Jason. If you want a Mystery Ranch, better get it before it says 'Yeti" on it. As far as pack weight, I usually pack heavy and suck it up on the way to my spot knowing it will be lighter on the way out after the food, water, etc is gone

FYI- they made them in Camo once apon a time, mine was run so hard to the point it looked more like a Ghillie suit before i binned it. For some reason they stopped making those, wish they would again.

I wholeheartedly agree with the spoon. You should keep one in every jacket, in the car, under the cat: always know where your spoon is.

Haven’t been on the radio much.
Hand sanitizer is one of my favorite fire starters and it obviously serves the fuel purpose of sanitizing your hands
I have all of those things in my survival pack, thanks to my son. Thank you Jason❤

TY, Jason, for this list I am in love with that green wool hoodie 🥰 love your videos also, TY again plan on purchasing the hoodie this weekend !!
Enjoy!
Very good list and I literally have everything you mentioned. Thanks for Sharing
On point video. I'd change the spoon to a long handle titanium spork because they're like $13.
Glad I'm updated 😅 you should also bring a knife / axe / saw sharpener AND learn how to use it. Ohhh boy have I dulled many knives 😂
Good call!

Agreed. Good footwear is essential!
