Thanks to a user in the comments, I found out one of the two men involved was James C Worles, age 22 at the time of the incident. He was convicted of burglary and aggravated battery and served approx. 5 years of a 10 year sentence. Domenick Davanzo died on January 8, 2001.

Years before this burglars rarely carried guns or weapons as they didn't want to get charged with an additional felony if caught. Now one who surprise a burglary is often met with violence and sometimes death. So glad Domenick lived an additional 12 years after the incident.

Oh man who the hell shoots an old man in the back? That's one of the lowest I've ever seen. The lowest ever was witnessed by all of us on 9/11.
I've never seen a system like this for passing information- I thought she was filing it away for some reason.
This is the politest 911 call I've ever heard- yes ma'am, no ma'am, even as he's bleeding to death!
Great observational skills by the lady after the newspaper story!
They have a lot of guts walking outside again and working out there!

32 years have passed since this happened. Thank goodness that Dominic had hidden the phone behind the curtain so the burglars couldn’t find it. If he hadn’t done that, he probably wouldn’t have gotten any help and possibly have died. When I saw Dominic get shot, I was terrified. I’d be frightened if someone I knew got shot by burglars.

That's why all homeowners who live in these isolated and rural areas should own a gun or some method of protecting themselves should somebody break in. Druggies and determined criminals don't care about security systems. You need something that will actually get something done, not just make noise.

The enhanced 911 system shows the caller's name and address on a computer screen. I read once that 911 actually started on January 16, 1968 in Haleyville, Alabama. I was told by the Tucson Police Department that the enhanced 911 system did not come into existence until 1985

    • @BBC600
      @BBC600 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They were meaning they had one of these new-fangled doohickeys called a computer that was connected in such a way it had access to telephone company records (at least for landlines). But the e911 was useless if a call came in from a car/cellphone because as they are sometimes called mobile phones they move around and aren't at a fixed address. See the clip Car Phone Kid (from 1995) in which a 5 year old managed to read the letters on the sign of the business (along with info about a nearby gas station) which his mother was parked at. The computer at the 911 call centre only could say "cellular telephone" and had no idea where they were.

The dad was doing yard work outside while his wife was at work. Wesley (the kid) was outside riding his big wheel and making a lot of noise. The dad noticed it had been quite for a few minutes, so he started looking around house. The pool was covered, so he pulled back the cover and thought he saw something at the bottom. He realized that it was Wesley, so he dove in and pulled him out. One of his daughters called 911 while he did CPR.

Former 9-1-1 operator and LE dispatcher here…the early days of 9-1-1 were good and bad. At first, we had only a number but no address. Often we had to trace numbers through the phone company to get an address and they were only right half of the time. And when cell phones came out, when they called the number would just show up as “999-9999”. But once ALI enhanced 9-1-1 came along, we got addresses, numbers, and names, although apartment unit numbers wouldn’t display. But we had the main address though.

When it happens to me, I'm remember that some youtubers are kids. Ten year olds sometimes say thoughtless, immature things like, "You're just saying you were shot to look important". But let's face it -- once we assign a younger age group to the a jerk we're dealing with, their words lose any power to ruin our day.
Hope this perspective helps you out in the future & hey... have a nice day! : )

Keep a guard dog or a .357 under your bed. These were likely dopers who had to steal stuff to support their meth habit.

@andreyloboda They were recorded off TV back in the 90's. Some of them I recorded myself, and others I got in tape trades.

My reply is a little late but someone else commented and said one suspect was found guilty and served 5 years of a 10 year sentence

Domenick was very lucky that he kept that phone hidden so the robbers wouldn’t find it and he would get the help that he needed or he would’ve died. 911 Arm Save happened on the same day that this happened.
