UNDP South Sudan Accelerator Lab: Digitization of the traditional ‘Sanduk’ saving scheme

Sanduk-Traditional Meets Digital: Community-informed, grassroots-led & technology accelerated financial and digital empowerment!
With support from the UNDP Africa Borderlands Centre (ABC), UNDP South Sudan Accelerator Lab set out on an exploratory journey through community immersion along the Sudan-South Sudan border. Their goal was to foster financial inclusion among community savings schemes, otherwise known as sanduk-sanduk (inspired by the concept of a box), by helping them build digital transaction histories. More specifically, the Lab wanted to see if sanduks saved more, repaid more reliably, and experienced lower interest rates by digitizing their financial flows.
