  • The 2014 Nobel Laureates met at the Grünewald Hall in the Stockholm Concert Hall in Stockholm on 11 December 2014 for the traditional round-table discussion and TV program 'Nobel Minds'. The Nobel Laureates discussed the discoveries for which they've been honored, how these can be applied in a practical way, and the role of science in today's society. The discussion was hosted by Zeinab Badawi of the BBC.

    Why does everyone dislike the interviewer? I feel like that must be a really challenging discussion to lead.

      Julian Smith true, it must be challenging but I feel like she isn’t engaged with what the laureates are saying. She’s a journalist not a scientist. Maybe it’s the time limit that forces her to jump to a specific structure of questions.

      from what i see she is doing a great job. however, criticisms could be because a limited time to go through questions she must cut off each speaker on a limited time!

    I always dream to be here someday and have a very wonderful discussion. Very prestitious moment.

    an also important reason why we don't see a lot of women laureates, is because usually people who received the prize are old (so that their achievements are already confirmed valuable to the society thanks to the test of time), while feminism is a recent movement. Partriarchy has been dominant for thousands of years and it is hard for the whole society, the whole belief and value to change so fast

    I wonder why they never answered the question specifically about Africa. Was really looking forward to hearing the comments

      He's talking about Henri Poincaré. Don't know the book though.

      He seems to be referencing the book _Science et Méthode_ by Henri Poincaré.

    Can someone explain to me why there are never any Peace Prize recipients on the Nobel Minds?

    • @lucaskilian1388
      @lucaskilian1388 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe because these are scientists and the peace prize goes in a different direction

    • @NobelPrize
      @NobelPrize  3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      Ah, the reason is pretty mundane. Since the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded in Oslo and Nobel Minds is filmed in Stockholm, it's often simply not logistically feasible for the Peace Laureates to participate. - Thanks for watching!

    Idea of a book
    Bodies from the earth
    Have transparent selves like ice and
    Hearts from gold
    Waiting for spirits from heaven
    And minds leading them to immortality
    How to make them real????????

    Why do they always have to ask about women not winn8ng prizes? Why aren't they asking about blacks people not winning prizes? Why aren't they asking about Arabs winning prizes?

    I've been going through all these Nobel Minds videos and it never ceases to amaze me how rude Zeinab Badawi can be every year. You could almost see her drooling on the table trying to get a number from Shuji Nakamura's patent settlement. Typical media fiend 👎
