The Perfect 'About Us' Page Isn't What You Think. (Use This Formula Instead.)

  • If you’ve read About Us pages of different businesses, you’ll notice that it’s all about the business owners - what they like, their stories, their awards, etc. This is the mistake that most business owners commit. The About Us is the second most visited page in any website after the Homepage so you really need to understand the science behind what to and what not to put in it. You have to be strategic about it and if I were writing your About Us Page, here’s what I’d put on it!
    People aren’t interested to know about you, they are interested to know about how you can SOLVE their problem and why you are the BEST choice. Although the name “About Us Page” suggests sharing personal details about the business owner, I’d much rather come up with content that isn’t too sales-y, still a bit personal, but focuses on what you can bring to the table.
    I made this episode to help you understand and realize how important the About Us Page is so I hope you don’t miss watching it. I have so many tips in this episode and I am hopeful it would help drive better results for your business!

    Summary:
    1> 0:51 A headline emphasizing the company's "why" or what it stands for.
    2> 1:54 A Brief explanation of the company's qualifications, ideally told through a short, human story.
    3> 2:26 Explanation of the benefits the company offers its clients.
    4> 3:46 Social proof, such as testimonials or relevant statistics, that demonstrates the effectiveness of the company's services.
    5> 5:25 A photo or video showing the company's team, emphasizing that clients are dealing with real people.
    6> 6:27 he also suggests an optional section for credentials, awards, and press mentions for businesses where these aspects are important. However, he warns against including extensive team bios and linking to their social media profiles as these could distract potential clients from the core business message.

      @@WesMcDowellInc It's interesting how modern website "About Us" sections are moving toward a few short sentences instead of long paragraphs. I'm not a fan, but it just goes to show how people's short attention spans and quick access to data is causing this trend.

    When is a team bio necessitated? (b2b websites, for example)

      Perhaps show a photo of the team in the office. That way you reassure the prospect you have a team without listing bios and hobbies which is a distraction.

    I notice that a lot of these 'About Me' page tutorials seem to be geared towards already established businesses. What about the brand new business that doesn't have any testimonials or numerous jobs already completed? What about the 'New Guy'?
    Personally, I was in construction for over 30 years and now I'm starting a drone business. I don't have some epic story about what brought me here. My body got broken down, and I needed to find work that was much less physically stressful. Aside from a couple online courses, I've self-taught in drone laws/civil rights, photo/video editing, business, etc. My about me page is the absolute biggest struggle I've faced building my website.

    • @RealtorKateSmith
      @RealtorKateSmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just be YOU, as you are the best YOU anyone can be. You don't have to put testimonials if you don't have them yet, let your work do the talking in the meantime.

      Yea, its not really about testimonials, although including a few does help. Its also not about your epic origin story. As I talk about in the video, its about talking establishing a bit of credibility, then talk about how you help your clients.

    kinda off topic but. I was told when trying to rank aim for a city of a population of 500k minimum. but is that really important considering google has a proximity?

  • @MMcCarthyRealty
    @MMcCarthyRealty 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm a little confused on one thing I hope you can clarify for me - you say we should show we are real people (in my case, as a team), but no team bios. So at most, if one wanted to do the "team morale" approach, would it just be a single picture with everyone in it, versus one for each person? Or can there be one for each person, but nothing beyond that such as the bio, about me, social channels, etc.? Just unclear on the line between enough to show we are people and too much info. Thanks.

    • @WesMcDowellInc
      @WesMcDowellInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great point to clarify Mike... The point is to show that you and your team are in fact real human beings, so I do tend to like the group shot or even a few candid photos of different groups of team members sprinkled in. Where it gets self indulgent is when each person gets the photo, bio, social links, favorite quotes, etc. In my opinion there is very little reason to have people scrolling through a grid of staff photos bc there's simply nothing in it for your clients to see all of that. Make sense?
