Your channel is a hidden gem! Just when I think I know enough, you give me more info I can implement in my own business. Really looking forward to more content from you 🙌🏽💯
Thanks Wes! I randomly came across this video today, and the timing was PERFECT. I am perfecting my website to promote my Virtual Assistant/Social Media Content Service. Thank you for this. I am going to get it together, overcome my fears and record some videos.
@@WesMcDowellInc It's interesting how modern website "About Us" sections are moving toward a few short sentences instead of long paragraphs. I'm not a fan, but it just goes to show how people's short attention spans and quick access to data is causing this trend.
I notice that a lot of these 'About Me' page tutorials seem to be geared towards already established businesses. What about the brand new business that doesn't have any testimonials or numerous jobs already completed? What about the 'New Guy'? Personally, I was in construction for over 30 years and now I'm starting a drone business. I don't have some epic story about what brought me here. My body got broken down, and I needed to find work that was much less physically stressful. Aside from a couple online courses, I've self-taught in drone laws/civil rights, photo/video editing, business, etc. My about me page is the absolute biggest struggle I've faced building my website.
Just be YOU, as you are the best YOU anyone can be. You don't have to put testimonials if you don't have them yet, let your work do the talking in the meantime.
Yea, its not really about testimonials, although including a few does help. Its also not about your epic origin story. As I talk about in the video, its about talking establishing a bit of credibility, then talk about how you help your clients.
Awesome content, Wes! Thanks so much for sharing your whiz. I have a question, though, pretty please? When is a team bio necessitated? (b2b websites, for example)
Perhaps show a photo of the team in the office. That way you reassure the prospect you have a team without listing bios and hobbies which is a distraction.
Thanks, Wes! I watch all of your videos, some- more than once. I find them not only educational but also, inspirational and highly motivational. Thank you!
Hi Wes! I originally saw your page about 2 years ago and I remembered you made websites. I am looking for help and couldn't find that same website that I saw showing the types of websites you made. Thanks
Thank you sooo much. I've been pondering what I should put in about page. Seriously I got no idea what to includes before this. This is soooo great vid...thanks again
Hey Wes - can you clarify? You mentioned sharing real photos of yourself, but then say not to include an individual bio? I'm a solo small business owner.
What if I use a CTA that says How it all started and it takes them to the backstory on the meet the founder page how he/she came up with the idea or challenges they faced that led them to starting
In the field i have ask many times re testimonials... most say the know it is bs. I personally have always thought this. We do high end house services, there is no way they would entertain the idear.
There are plenty of high end businesses who can get testimonials. Any business who tries to be successful without them is gonna have a much harder time, but its your business!
Wes, this video I stumbled upon while looking for advice on how to write my About Us page 📄 Thank Christ !! As the garbage 🗑️ I had initially written was wide of the mark. I’ve learnt to make it all about the customer and how we can service them..
kinda off topic but. I was told when trying to rank aim for a city of a population of 500k minimum. but is that really important considering google has a proximity?
I'm a little confused on one thing I hope you can clarify for me - you say we should show we are real people (in my case, as a team), but no team bios. So at most, if one wanted to do the "team morale" approach, would it just be a single picture with everyone in it, versus one for each person? Or can there be one for each person, but nothing beyond that such as the bio, about me, social channels, etc.? Just unclear on the line between enough to show we are people and too much info. Thanks.
Great point to clarify Mike... The point is to show that you and your team are in fact real human beings, so I do tend to like the group shot or even a few candid photos of different groups of team members sprinkled in. Where it gets self indulgent is when each person gets the photo, bio, social links, favorite quotes, etc. In my opinion there is very little reason to have people scrolling through a grid of staff photos bc there's simply nothing in it for your clients to see all of that. Make sense?

Why don't you ever do video timestamps? It's something I really appreciate on other channels. Would you consider it?
Thanks for the suggestion Matt! I do use them for my longer videos, but I can look into using them on shorter videos too.

We have a new business & don't have any testimonials, or "stats". What do you suggest??
What if I use a CTA that says How it all started and it takes them to the backstory on the meet the founder page how he/she came up with the idea or challenges they faced that led them to starting
2:22 thought it said "sorry about the blueberries"
What about talking about how the company was found? Something that is on a personal level?
If it establishes a connection, or shows a benefit somehow to the prospect then sure! But just don't get too far into a history lesson.
@@WesMcDowellInc Thanks for the quick response! Yes, I'll have to make some changes then ;)
You are a brilliant super human! Thank you for your perfect content 😂❤ and all your help!!
Wow, thank you! 😊😊🙌
Very informative. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks the "Team Bio" section is toooooo much.

How do I seo my about page?
Hey Johnny - check out my SEO tutorial for more info: th-cam.com/video/xF3N4vjxnQs/w-d-xo.html

5:27 show you are a real person.
People want to do busienss with other people
So... basically, I'm not writing an About Me page, I'm writing a sales copy?
Pretty much. Everything on the website should be a sales copy
That's a shame?
First 😂
This is not what is trending, the about page needs to be about the customer not about you! Maybe you need to study this
Obviously didn't watch the video, but thanks for your 2 cents!
About us or Why us page.? Confusion arises.
