this game came to me in dark times and gave me pure bliss, a very rare magical experience. The GRass music in particular put a spell on me, and yes I also prefer this midi version to the other 'higher quality' format :-)
The higher quality format is actually in the original game, too - it was made at a time when they knew they could rely on people having MIDI support, but not the kind of sound card that could handle the orchestral stuff. Some songs are very similar, just working in their given media, while others are outright changed entirely. (For example, the Warlock theme is dramatically different because midi can't handle vocal tracks at all and the German opera singing is a huge part of the song in the orchestral version.) Back when I was a kid playing this, I liked both versions, and often switched modes so I could enjoy them. (Part of it is that some of the songs just don't compare. I'm not sure if the labels here are wrong or if it was like this in game - it's been decades since I played this game, and most of that was with Succession Wars installed and thus using the new music - but the track labelled as the sorceress castle theme is the midi version of the orchestrated warlock theme.)
Oh my god, this is awesome. It doesn't matter that the opera OST is richer, the midi versions of these songs are better. Especially sorceress and necromancer. Major props for posting this
I'll saw one thing, most of the midi songs are way more nostalgic for me. However if we are comparing the sorceress song, the opera one is such a masterpiece. It would feel wrong for me to say the midi one is better
PSR the sorceress Opera is good, and it's the only Opera that does not have a corresponding midi. However, I just think the sorceress midi (which is the warlock's Opera I think) is so much more somber. In the end, it's a question of preference :)
I cant argue with your logic, but i mean i think of it as if you can have both why not ? :) Honestly im just glad to see people actually still enjoy this soundtrack. A point of preference for me is i love the the necromancer midi way more than the opera one. Its almost like they mixed them up, it just sounds way creepier and is always the way i remember it.
PSR the necro midi is so memorable I still can't help but associate that musical phrase to necromancy 25 years later. It boggled my mind that song was originally composed for the barbarian of all things, and the midi ended up in the necro because of the shuffle caused by the lack of a sorceress midi.
I still refuse that song has to be made for the barbarian haha, every time i purchased the storm cloud i was like yesss the music fits so damn perfectly
That's true. I was referring to the versions in the castles with the opera singing. For some reason I prefer the more basic version, as can be heard here. //Wallafaza
This is the first time I've listened to the OST of a game ive never played or heard of. I will say that it starts off absolutely beautifully and it makes me want to play these games
Thank you so much for uploading this. It brings back memories of playing this game on my older brother's hand me down computer. I came here just for 9:51.
I like that now that TH-cam added that feature where you can see the most replayed section of the video, you can see the huge mountain of replays on the necromancer theme
Amazing! Atm there's an Ubisoft offer... I bought it for 2,50€ and thanks to the comments I found the game option to switch back to midi. I was waiting for this so many years. Thank you all for bringing back my childhood.
Price of Loyalty Warlock town theme is the best. Second best in Necro town theme. HOMM2 is one of the best game ever made. It had its own charm despite towns not being very balanced.
29:52 - You can't fool me, Rob King. That's a variant of the main campaign victory theme! Incidentally, I swear that _someone_ screwed _something_ up, _somewhere._ Either the track order was wrong for the MIDI files, in-game, or someone got the CDDA tracks out-of-order.
I was used to hear songs in midi for this game since I had no better support for the music. I love it regardless even if real ost with opera is much better....kinda :)
+Francesco Faluomi I wish there was just a better soundtrack without the singing...There should be, but there isn't. When I click today on stereo, I hear nothing.
thanks for the fast reply! Let say the them of knight town at 01:22, most of the others upload from youtube mix out. For example th-cam.com/video/GzuCcyl6cfo/w-d-xo.html If I remember correctly, the one that I played back then was the one you uploaded, so.....ya thats why im confuse.
Pfft, don't you have a downloadfile with just all your roland sc and yamaha mu80 ost's? Lol this is just awesome... If not maybe you can atleast rar all the ost midi files? Midi doesn't take too much space tho', but i'm just asking. All up to you
There is "notes" that last longer in your video. ;) You can compare easily with the entrance page of Lands of Enroth ( homm2.free.fr ). But, maybe the music itself may vary depending on the computer reading it? I doubt it... Because the .xmi is read by the game itself, so all the Heroes2w.exe should read theses .XMI files on the same way. But the musics in your video makes me remind of the version displayed on "misoft" website. :p I am pretty sure I'm not wrong on this point. But you make me wondering if I should doubt.. xD
I have used DOS version of the game, not windows. Heroes2w.exe is windows executable. It is possible the windows version has different timing than DOS.
Imagine playing the Roland campaign while listening to the soundtrack on the Roland SC-88....that'd be going full Roland.
Kicked it with Sound Blaster 16... it was still fucking fire!
No, it would be ironic.
I did that, but with the Roland MT-32
Yo dawg I heard you like Roland
Sound Blaster.. now there is a name I had not heard in a while..
THE FUCKIN CORRECT VERSION OF THE FUCKIN SOUNDTRACK! THANKS!
Oh god why did they have to mix these up MULTIPLE times :)
The best (for me) is main menu song...the begining of that song gives me huge nostalgia. :'(
I love this game so much.
Can totally relate. This game and it's music was something very special.
🤝🤝

grass and snow theme in midi was my favorite in far 1999)

Yesss the grass theme, sinks in like no other. I never knew its dependent on terrain, just assumed it's the game sound as is, most often heard ;d

My childhood! Thanks for uploading this.
enjoy your childhood.
I like this a lot better than the OST. Beautiful.
That's true. I was referring to the versions in the castles with the opera singing. For some reason I prefer the more basic version, as can be heard here. //Wallafaza
Battle 1. LOVE.
@@Wallafaza That opera singing blew my mind back when I was a kid. It really is a masterpiece.
sound canvas and yamaha mu have that effect on compositions :)
This is the first time I've listened to the OST of a game ive never played or heard of. I will say that it starts off absolutely beautifully and it makes me want to play these games
I do it all the time. Plenty of good games OSTs out there. Have fun exploring.
3:24 my childhood came flooding back 😲 Oh, for it to be the mid to late 90’s again. What a magical time. 😢
Thank you so much for uploading this. It brings back memories of playing this game on my older brother's hand me down computer. I came here just for 9:51.
Have been looking for the midi version for a long time, and finally! Thank you so much for sharing this.
I have been searching for the expansion Necromancer theme for years. There it is at the end! Thanks so much.
I like that now that TH-cam added that feature where you can see the most replayed section of the video, you can see the huge mountain of replays on the necromancer theme

Thank you so much for great music without songs! especially my favorites are the tracks from The Price of Loyalty addon!
THANKS for upIoad!!! i was searching it everywhere, i prefer midi version than mp3, once again thanks man!
One of the best soundtrack ever!
makes me cry so much soul
same these songs were peak

Yeah Battle thems are the music that I used to set on mode. Thanks god that I can listen again. I really miss this game so much
Beautiful!! Thanks so much
Cool channel. Thanks for your uploads. :)

Beautiful Hi-Fi, Heroes 2
Battle 1. Fucking awesome. Loved it SO MUCH MORE than the cd version!
Interesting !!! Heroes only played from #3.
Thanks for uploading.
Thank you very much for the contribution
Dude this is great!
The redbook opera stuff was awesome.
I was used to hear songs in midi for this game since I had no better support for the music.

+Francesco Faluomi I wish there was just a better soundtrack without the singing...There should be, but there isn't. When I click today on stereo, I hear nothing.
I think you can turn off the opera in settings
you could switch to CD music w/o opera in the fucking options :D
Barbarian town theme from PoL! So nostalgic!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Victory 26:11... for king Roland
This is better than drugs, convince me otherwise.
Do you know that the "Victory" theme played in Might and Magic 9 at monastery bells? (I think it was Lindisfarn)
Amazing
I see what you did there.
I like this version so much, thanks!
im just a little confuse, which is the original of the original towns theme?
Hi, click on "show more"' to see the whole playlist.
thanks for the fast reply!

This game has two soundtracks, one is on CD as CD audio and the second is the MIDI soundtrack without opera. This is the MIDI soundtrack.
I see, I understand now. Thank you so much!
Hellow, is it possible to do the same for age of empire 1 midi musics ? with roland 32 ? :3

@@OlviMasta77 now you made me sad
Would it be possible for you to record Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest soundtrack?
Hello, it is cd audio. Already on youtube.

Barbarian and Wizard Towns> J.S.Bach : Goldberg Vartiations No.1
Is there an adlib version too?
do you still have the complete midi pack?
geilomat
How do you mean no midi effect had been used?
Reverb and chorus. Supported since first Sound Canvas. AWE cards had it too.
I am sorry but the sound isn't exactly like it was in the game. :) However if your game isn't running anymore you shouldn't notice the difference. :)
And what do you think it is? :) Recorded during gameplay using original CDs. :)

Okay, the difference probably comes from that. :) Thanks for sharing anyway. ;) (No Ocean theme? :p)
I think the Ocean music was a sample, wav, not midi. I was disappointed.
how about heroes 3 that will be awesome
Homm3 are mp3s...TH-cam is full of them :)
hobbits is the best unit
