On a normal SU maybe but this is a DD SU so there is no oil in the dashpot! At least not like a normal one. Being sideways the oil would just leak out. So it has a small oiler just to keep things lubricated but not piston in oil like the later carbs do.
I'm enjoying your youtube videos. Thanks for sharing your projects. Have you used a gas analyser to determine the best SU needle? I have a Riley 9 and found the gas analyser an excellent tool for this. You just need a good collection of SU needles to trial. My Riley's performance really responded to this process. Colin
Hi Colin, I do have an analyser which I have been using on my Austin 7. It's one of the innovate units and it has been quite useful. I think it will be even more use once I can get the car on the road. I will definitely use it on the Riley as well once I get that far.
Thank you iv been looking to get advise on tapering my needle not many videos on it
Hi can you take some photos of the instructions please as I would like to learn more on this
Send me an email, the address should be in the channel about, and I can see what I can do!
Just found this video, could it bet the weight of the oil in the dash pot giving you the flat spot
