seeing the exacto blade thickness under the microscope really brings into perspective, the sheer scale of what you're working on. those components are absolutely diminutive af.
I would have just removed the chip with hot air, cleaned the board well and then solder it back. I think you ended up doing a lot more work trying to do it "quick and dirty". Even so, you did a great job. And I love your videos. Keep going mate!
I just want to say thank you for these videos and the content you make!! I enjoy watching these repair videos (even the long ones) and it's especially nostalgic to watch the ones for devices or consoles that I grew up with!! I appreciate you taking the time to show and explain how you do these repairs on video!! It's super cool!!
Nice repair video as usual Steve!! Me personally, I would've used the hot air station to remove the chip and check the situation under the chip, seeing there was corrosion on the pin.
Reminds me when dk oldies broke one with a baseball bat. They still have the video up too. “saying it was fake” No research was done on that and people got pissed
Well let's be technical here it is fake it is a literal Chinese knockoff... Just b cause it works well doesn't mean it isn't a Chinese fake to get around their own laws and to bootleg Japanese games for their own market. Just because people like it doesn't make it real
Oof, you broke the coating off that replacement fuse. At least it worked, I guess. I also agree with comments that you should have removed the chip entirely. You've got the equipment and know-how. That's the kind of bodge I would have done!
I was debating in my mind whether it would been better to remove the ic, then fix the oxidised/ corroded pad. There is however always a risk of lifting pads or applying too much heat with the hot-air station and killing the ic?
@@LozzTheDev I see what you're saying. There is a danger there, although had the leg broken off that would have been far from ideal. Steve is very good at what he does though, so I was just a bit surprised that he didn't get more in the weeds with this one.
You tested the fix without a game in the gba and I've seen those lines come up without having a game in the slot. I think you may have made more work than was necessary.
you actually got the battery with yours, definitely try save it if you can since those are branded and something i was informed of, if you find a bare sp board with a white connector thats the ique variant, apparently it was part of the marketing for these that it was a fake or something like that if it had the normal black one, something they had to push in the marketing since the console itself doesnt care and runs whatever and its games also run on a normal unit. this was changed with the ds and the games no longer functioned on a normal; unit
I do like it when the original shells are kept even if they are scratched up. That's the history of the console/handheld and unless it's damaging the function of the console I don't see the point in a shell replacement.
I believe iQue mostly does translating and localizing new games released worldwide by Nintendo into simplified Chinese now. Nintendo Hong Kong do traditional Chinese translating.
Personally, at 7:24, I will have completely removed the chip itself and cleaned the underside of it before reassembling. It would have been simpler and would have avoided a probable broken leg given the rarity of the machine.
Steve, you called those holes Via's? Is that the correct term? If I had a board with a capacitor or resistor that goes in holes like that are they also called Via's?
If an advance or DS blips the orange light when you plug in the charger, there's still signs of life in the charging circuit.. usually signs of a bad battery but not always..
The solder tip choices make me cringe! 😬 I've never had success with sharp tips, even less on larger tips and especially on bent tips. Chisel-tips are the way to go!

Yep, pretty tiny
Cartridge is blank because this is not an "official" copy of Lego Bionicles. Hence the rising sun international piracy logo in the boot sequence.
its blanke, because a kid peel it off 😂

same...pad oxidation is a pain to remove in situ
Tip: To help line up the screen protector you can put it face down in the top shell then bring the screen onto it. No issues with alignment then 👍🏻
I knew the battery test at the begining right off the bat would fail. Because otherwise there wouldn't be a video! :-)
There can only be a video if something is broken, lol!
I understood the reference.

Don't tell DKoldies you have one of them they'll smash saying it's a fake 😂
Haha!
Beat me to it.
Lmao my friend has 5 boys and they each have one with a ton of games

The exacto knife under the microscope really gives an idea of the scale of the stuff you work on. So crazy.
lol it looked gigantic didn't it?!?
Keep in mind this is over 20 year old hardware too. Stuff has gotten quite a bit smaller since then.
Rising Sun international organized piracy.......... TM🤣🤣🤣

Me: "Urgh. I don't like you bending the pin like that."
Tronics: "I don't like bending the pins like I just did."
Me: "Okay. We're okay. Thank you."
I remember these. The good ol' days
Love seeing mystery games cause you can guess it is any game and be excited!!!

Not testing the new screen first. How brave.
You should have removed the chip tinned the the board underneath with soder then sodered the chip back

That bent pin was painful, I could not have walked away.
Sometimes you have to. It's not worth the risk of breaking off the pin which is super easy to do.
Hello friend, great video. Here's wishing you love, light and strength on your journey. ❤😇🥰🙏 Paul.
Thank you!
Steve, you fluxing things up in this repair lol😂
That should be your new merch slogan
Lol, yep
I have the same color iQue GBA SP. RIP to its old ique battery recently and replaced with a pickle power 900mah gba sp battery.
Who remembers when DK Scamdies thought those were fake and brought them into the parking lot to destroy them with a baseball bat? 🤣
I saw that video! Crazy
It's a chinese nice gba sp . i had one long time ago. Yes, it's official product renames iQue in china
Steve, you called those holes Via's? Is that the correct term? If I had a board with a capacitor or resistor that goes in holes like that are they also called Via's?
I'm surprised for the bend pin you didn't use a heat gun and took the chip off the motherboard and fix the pin then re place it.
To solder the IC pin you missed to scratch the PCB and expose the copper closest to the pin and solder it
Y should clean the pads ..and remove the oxidation .first .and that means lift the chip
Buen video
Bro you are getting your hair back?! I hope this is good news

Awesome!!
what kind of flux do you use?
i usually wait like 2-3 seconds to do joints i guess youre trying to not ruin it

Chisel-tips are the way to go!
That soldering was hard to watch, you need to get some sewing needles 🪡 for picking the legs .. Great fix as per
I got a ds lite from my grandma probably 10 years ago but it turns on then right back off. Do you want to try to fix it for me?
not gonna lie i was thinking of Corsair's iQue brand & was wondering where the RGB was 🤣🤣🤣
loved it when dk oldies claimed it was a fake console and destroyed one.
Why didn't you show whether it was charging both batteries after 'fixing' it, since you diagnosed that a potential initial problem with it?
I want to call it a ear poker rather than cotton bud😂
You made the video in September of 2023, it’s July of 2024!
Yep, we make long cuts of our videos for those that want to see more details of each repair. That's why we named the channel TronicsFix Longs
I can charge that without the wall adapter :P
Nice bald spot! LOL,🤣
Next time take out IC chip clean legs clean pads reinstal 😉
You did this video September of 2023 and now it is July of 2024 ...
Yup. An extended edition.
Yeah, we make long cuts of our videos for those who want more details of each repair.
I have a Nintendo GameCube and a Xbox series X console that doesn’t want to turn on and can’t fix them 😞
Super rare..lol..I have 3 of em..2 work 😂
So you're saying that because you have 3 of them they're not rare?
@@TronicsFixLongs no no no no no there not super rare .. just rare.
Dude, China is SO weird with their video game laws.
Chinese Nintendo...But since Nintendo bought out iQue I guess it's technically a Nintendo Nintendo...for the Chinese market.
That just makes it super rare
nope its not super rare, basicly nintendo just change a logo
you should check iQue DS、DSi、3DS
Come on, man, that's CLEARLY a fake console, you need to go smash it in a parking lot IMMEDIATELY.
(Yes, that video still hurts my heart . . .)
12/2023
Those ain't rare
At this point I feel as that theyre not THAT rare.
Why are you pronouncing que as queue? Que is prounounced as "kay"
That's... debatable
