4 glasses of flour (480 g)
1 glass of yogurt (220 g)
1 glass of water (200 ml)
1 pack of baking powder (10 g)
1 teaspoon of salt (8 g)
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil (10 ml)

Some points to note for first-timers attempting to make flatbreads:
1. This particular dish (flat bread) has been made for centuries in India, Pakistan and other regions of South Asia. It is called roti, fulka/phulka (means 'sweller'), chappathi, chapati, bhakri and other names from region to region.
2. This can be made with whole wheat flour or with refined flour (processed flour called maida in India). Whole wheat flour is healthier. It can be made in a combo of mixed flours or multi-grain combinations of your choice: for example - whole wheat flour + corn flour (maize) + millet flour + chickpea flour with olive oil/vegetable oil for kneading the dough.
3. The thickness of the flatbread/roti will influence the cooking consistency. Too thin and it won't swell/puff up. Too thick and the centre/inner portion inside will feel less cooked. Also, make sure the edges are sealed well. That will allow the air to be caught up and puff it to get it to its ball-like proportions. Make sure the flame is on "medium or closer to high" if you want to make fulka / phulka (swelling bread). They need to be tossed or turned quickly on both sides to swell up.
4. In the preparation of flatbread across India, no baking powder or baking soda is added to the dough. You can add a pinch of salt and use water to knead it. You can also use a bit of oil of your choice to finish the kneading process. One can use curd/yoghurt for additional smoothness or moisture in the flatbread. To raise the dough without soda/baking powder, keep it in a warm area or near the cooking area for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cooking.
5. One can add finely chopped onions, finely chopped cilantro/coriander leaves, finely chopped green chillies, a boiled and mashed potato 🥔, to the dough as well (if you want to avoid cooking another side dish). Add spices like chilli powder, curry powder/garam masala, herbs 🌿of your choice and a bit of salt and pepper to the water/curd/oil you use for kneading the dough. The finished dough after rising and being baked on the pan (without baking powder/soda) will be ready to eat with a dash of your favourite butter/extra virgin olive oil/mayonnaise/ghee on top.
6. You can have your flatbread with pickles, sauteed veggies, curries or eggs (boiled eggs or sunny side up eggs) with salt and pepper or omelettes. You can have your flatbread with any lentils (dal), meat or fish recipe of your choice to make it as lunch/dinner. Toddlers and children can have the flatbread for breakfast with honey/jam/jelly/cream or broken in very small pieces dipped in warm sweetened milk for younger babies who have started feeding on semi-liquid foods.
7. You can apply butter or ghee (clarified butter) on your flatbread, apply bread spreads, pickles, or even jam or fruit jellies/preserves if you like it sweet.
8. Making the dough with water is not complicated. Start with lower portions of water. Keep adding a few drops (around a spoonful) each time you knead and roll the dough. The better the kneading, the softer the dough (if sufficient water is added). In case you added too much water, add more flour to make the consistency thicker.

Odličan video, ali molim vas napravite više takvih da prosvijetlite ljude. Naišao sam na nekoga ko se žalio u vašem odjeljku za komentare zbog gubitka posla i traženja pomoći. Posjedovanje više izvora prihoda veoma je ključno za finansijski rast.
Dobre riječi. Investicije su oduvijek bile ultimativna opcija, ima još više koristi kada imate nekoliko investicija što vam daje veću prednost i veći izvor prihoda.
Shvatio sam prednosti ulaganja. Moj izvor prihoda je ranije bio moj posao. Ali izgubio sam posao kada je počela pandemija i morao sam živjeti s ono malo što sam imao u ušteđevini što je stvarno uticalo na moje planove.
Upravo o tome govorim. U posljednje četiri godine moj prihod nikada nije ovisio ni o jednoj firmi ili radnom mjestu, jer sam izabrao da investiram i što više novca dobijem, više tražim nove mogućnosti ulaganja.

You can make it in another way by NOT adding Baking powder and making it thin, it's called chapati or roti in India, and yes we eat it everyday here 😀
Yes, but very few people add Yoghurt (Dahi) into their chapati flour in India.
Separately, most Indians do take Yoghurt with their meals.

So yeah You could make it in regular frying pan with flame on medium to low, or Tawa pan , which i think westerners might not be aware of. But its okay to cook it in a frying pan of quite large diameter,( not that pan in which milk is boiled etc.)
What is a paratha? Is it similar to a chapati or just a flatter roti?

I made this with whole wheat flour.
It is so good that I stopped buying bread and make a batch once a week.
I store it in plastic bag in fridge.
No way... Don't store it in fridge... It's unhealthy... You can make and store dough... But eat it fresh

Hi, thank you for this recipe. I am making them as we speak. I was wondering how long these will keep and if once the dough is in little balls how long do you keep them in the bag before rolling out. Also can they be frozen before the cooking stage or is it better to pan fry and freeze after. I’m only 1 person. Hahaha thanks

This is a staple diet of Indians and known by different names based on ingredients used and technique of making:
1. Roti
2. Chapatti
3. Puri
4. Paratha
5. Bhakhri
6. Thepla
7. Phulka
There may be many more names but i am aware of only these much. Each of this is different and all taste awesome. We usually eat them with cooked vegetables, curd, curry, pickles etc. They are very nutritious. We also take some rice and buttermilk on the side. I recommend everyone to once try a full indian thali. You will never forget the experience.

Not really 10 min if that's the case + it doesn't use yeast so, should be ready to go. Have you tried yet?

Thank you from California! I cut the recipe in half to experiment making it with gluten free flour. Mine didn’t rise as much as your…it came out looking similar to naan….but is Very good! Thank you for this and if anyone has any experience making this gluten free, please let me know!
Look for tapioca flour, and proceed same way. It'll be fluffy and moist and tasty 😊
There's are many online recipes using gluten substitute.
This was the first thought that came to mind though.
Dr Mike, it didn't rise as much because of the gluten-free flour.
