  • In 2013, American light artist James Turrell transformed the rotunda of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Guggenheim Museum into a mesmerising Skyspace. Shifting between natural and artificial light, 'Aten Reign' - James Turrell’s main attraction - illuminated the central void with a brightly coloured, banded pattern that imitated the museum’s famous ramps. This presented a dynamic perceptual experience in which the materiality of light was exposed.
“LIGHT is this thing we usually use to illuminate other things. I’m interested that light has thingness itself, so it’s not something that reveals something about other things you’re looking at, but it becomes a revelation in itself.” - James Turrell
