I’m on XBox series X and installed MSFS 2024 3 days after launch. I have an average D/L speed of 70 Mbps and the default rolling cache was set at 16 GiB. I have been very disappointed with the poor graphics quality compared with 2020. So much so that I re-installed the sim today and also upped the rolling cache to 64 GiB, that someone said was the “sweet spot”. The good news is that since the re-install there has been a great improvement in the graphics quality when flying slowly around London and New York. I would say that today it was on a par with 2020, or possibly better. I am no technical expert but the quality of the graphics seems to be related to a) the internet D/L speed b) the size of the rolling cache and c) probably the time of day you run the sim. The disappointing thing is that at present I have no idea of the relative importance of these factors.
I believe that redownloading doesn’t change anything. Technically, the packages are exactly the same for everyone, and verified one by one before the game can run. This way, even if someone has some corrupted or out-of-date package, the Xbox will notice it through the game files checksum and force a redownload. I believe that the fluctuation we observe in graphics quality is probably due to variable servers throttling that depends on the current load on their backend infrastructure. They serve lower quality models/textures/etc depending on this load. That’s the reason most problems occur at peak hours. (…of course, they didn’t charge a variable price for their “product”…) And all of this doesn’t have anything to do with the thousands of bugs currently baked into this unfinished game that probably make things even worst.
@ Interesting comment about re-downloading, sounds logical when you think about it. Have you got any thoughts about the size of the Rolling Cache? I’ve just watched a video by Ray Forder who recommends no more that 32 GiB, but I don’t know why ( have asked the question in a comment, so he might get back to me).
@@flybeeson7950 I’m not exactly sure what to recommend for Rolling Cache size. I have left mine to the default 16GB for the time being. The sim is so full of bugs in 99% of its subsystems. Essentially it’s in alpha stage. Not even beta. I have accepted the fact that I will suffer for at least the next 6-12 months. So, no reason to occupy half of my limited Xbox drive for now. In theory, the more space you devote to Rolling Cache, the better. It will essentially lower the frequency that the sim requires downloading stuff from the server. So, better experience. If you usually fly the same planes at the same geographic region constantly, then you will definitely see better results. Hopefully, the best quality models/textures will stay cached locally on your Xbox and you’ll have the best graphics/resolution & loading times possible. But if you constantly switch aircraft and fly to different geographic locations around the map, then the whole cache benefits go away. You’ll still have a huge chunk of your drive dedicated to it without any actual benefits.

Based on your comments I think I’ll just fly a few planes in a few areas to make the most of the Rolling Cache, until things improve.
