357 Sig and 10mm are the Royalty of simi auto cartridges. There are no rivals.

I have just over 17 years with the 357sig and I have absolutely NO doubt with the characteristics and capabilities of this exceptional round. I use Gold Dot & Underwood for self protection and RemingtonFMJ, WinchesterFMJ,FiocciFMJ for practice.
With all this said, I have NO issues with other calibers as I do use a variety however, 357sig is by far my favorite.

Yeah, but the 9mm will blow your lungs out

$1 a round? lol in Idaho I get 357 Sig for about 34-38cents a round. 357 Sig is what 9mm SHOULD be.

Of course the question wasn’t asked because it’s common sense 357 sig is a 9mm magnum, it’s a win for 357 sig all day everyday, it’s 9mm bullet on a 40 casing. There are 357 sig loads that are over 1550 FPS with 637 foot pounds, nasty! The North Carolina state police have used it for year with great results. More important we sent 450 of them to the Iraqi police when M&P dumped them and they have a ton of great data of it being crazy effective. I would not bet my life on any other caliber. It’s much more effective than 40 also.

To those using 40 stop using 180 grain bullets it’s the 155 and 165 works best. The lighter the better in 40.

I think it's a difference between needs. Nobody needs to punch through a car door or a seat on an a commercial aircraft like a police officer or an air marshal does, which is where the 357 sig excels

I like the 357 Sig. The only thing I don’t like is the price and local availability.
Can’t really find it locally, thankfully I can find it online.

Love 357 Sig. Now it’s crazy expensive. The 9+p is good, But don’t know if a gun can stand up to steady diet of ++p. To try and get close to Sig level of performance.

I love the 357 sig and the 40 s&w. I have a 357 sig barrel for my M&P 40. It shoots the 357 sig much better.

Love my p226 in 357 SIG but the ammo is so expensive I'm leaning back to my .45 ACP

I don't have a 357 Sig, but I love the theory. I am a LONG time .45 man, until I found .40. More rounds better performance,...9mm? I carry it in my mini pieces. And y'all just got a new subscriber.

The .357 Sig is a man stopper. Who wins in a gun fight? The guy that has more ammo and can put more of those rounds on target. With the 357 Sig it don't take as many to neutralize the threat. Back in the mid 80's there was a wildcat called a 38-45 which held a lot of promise. Only drawback was it was designed to be used in a 1911 style pistol. Good discussion.

I size my 357 sig brass with a 40 S&W sizing die first and go back and resize withthe 357 sig die last. Doing it this way you do not have to use lube to resize the brass. Resizing the way I do is an extra step but its worth it not have to lube my brass. I only load 100 at a time anyway so it goes pretty quick.

.357 sig does better through barriers than any other service cartridge except for .357 mag. If you don't see yourself carrying a 4" or longer barrel and you are not concerned about auto glass or sheet metal then you probably don't need a .357 sig.
The biggest issue with .357 sig is that it is stuck in the past. Most of the advancements in 9mm bullets have been for 9x19 and ammo manufacturers don't seem interested in making newer projectiles or loadings of .357 sig, speer is still using the same gold dot LE load from ~2009. Even from a reloading standpoint it is not evident what newer projectiles might work well in .357 sig because the load data hasn't changed in the newer manuals. It's not evident if any of the newer pistol powders work well or if the newer 9mm projectiles have the right ogive or bearing surface to work well with the bottleneck. Additionally some of the newer loads are intentionally slow to fit in the design parameters of a projectile intended for 9x19 velocities.
The other issue is platform, Montana Highway Patrol just switched from p229 in .357 sig to the M&P 2.0 in 9mm. The two primary rationales given were: the p229 service life is too short as they tend to crack frames and the 9mm offers better magazine capacity.
Another issue is optics ready pistols, which every brand now makes as a 9mm. No one makes a factory .357 sig with an optics cut. As law enforcement agencies adopt newer pistols to utilize red dots, they will gravitate to offerings that are already on the market which likely means 9x19.

As a revolver guy, I have to say that the sig was designed to 'approximate' the magnum only in 125 grains and even then, it does not equal it. The 125gr mag still outperforms it at this weight. When going to a heavier grain weight, like 158gr, then the magnum blows it away, it's not even close. The 357 sig is a 40s&w necked down to a 9mm bullet, so the association to the magnum is based solely as sig and federal's marketing pitch to law enforcement.
