@@unboxingwithmarty Yep, daily. Since I'm heavily into the Apple ecosystem I needed a Windows PC to play games from my Steam library. I installed two SSDs, a bunch of RAM, an RTX A2000, and created a dual boot system. I find I'm using Mint more often than Windows because I don't game every day.
I have it running on a mid 2007 7,1. Keeps the old thing useful, because no modern browser etc will run on the last OS it will run, Catalina. Mint will run Brave no problem, and I can use the old thing on my electronics repair hobby desk. I'm wondering if it will run on PowerPC. Got a G5 here.
That's nothing. I am running this distro on old Asus f5rl series, that had Vista running on it. I think I had it around 2008 or so. It broke one hinge, I replaced it just a couple months ago, got upgraded RAM, new ssd sata hard drive, cleaned and repasted... it runs quietely and well. I wish I did it sooner. I had it on ebay for years for spare parts, nobody wanted it. Their loss! 😂.It even burned its own Wilma installation dvd haha.
Vista, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time...and it burned its own Wilma installation. Yup, you certainly did well there. Do you use the Asus daily?
@@unboxingwithmarty not daily, but I have it for fun and for some risky operations. I have two more machines, one desktop still having Win10 but after losing support it will be Linux. And one more modern laptop I bought myself this year, just about 3yo, second hand, my learning b*tch that had numerous distros installed and reinstalled, currently trying to get there two Linux distros on one hard drive as LMDE doesn't support some stuff that Ubuntu does but I don't want Ubuntu to be my main distro. And Win11 goes from a usb with persistence. My main machine one is still Win10, but it already has a second drive with LMDE on it. Also repasted after some 4 years of service. I went through a massive learning curve this year when it comes to computing. And the Microsoft can only thank themselves, for their shenanigans, that I am going to almost ditch it completely.
Finally Linux desktop started to have huge community 😊
It looks that way, I read Linux recently hit a 4.45% global market share. Linux is getting noticed!
I recently installed Mint on a 2012 Dell Optiplex. Mint saw all the hardware, including the GPU, and it runs great.
That is really great! Are you using the Optiplex on a regular basis?

Thank you for the reply!
I run latest Linux Mint on a 2010 iMac 24" and on a MacBookPro (late 2008). Everything works fine! (even the iSight camera on the MacBookPro!)
Wow, that is something! Do you continue to use the 2010 iMac for daily activities?

The browser is important, mine ran High Sierra and my choice for browsers was really limited so time for Linux.
i have actually installed Linix Mint 22 on a 2007 AMD 690G based system!
17 years old! Can it still serve for daily use? Web search, shopping, videos and such?
@@unboxingwithmarty yep seems fine - it was donated to a charity ^^
Wow, that’s a great ending to your story, good for you!

Linux can be a viable alternative to Windows, especially when you consider Linux can keep a dated device useful.
