Be very carefull with the battery. If you look closely, it should be a BR2032, not a CR2032. The BR is the rechargeable variant. You may damage a CR2032, and/or possibly the circuit.

On the early 2008 core duo I recently upgraded? I went with the full 6gb ram max, and installed a Crucial 256gb internal SATA SSD.
I've seen other vids suggesting removing the optical drive for thermal air flow, but I kept it in.
Speaking of thermals? That whole HDD "thermal sensor"? Is a total sham, and the fan fully throttling issue can be mitigated with software.
I went with El Capitan, and gifted it just yesterday to my fellow musician cousin that recently lost everything due to escaping w/ his kid from a severely toxic relationship.
I even threw in an old Presonus Audiobox USB interface and cables.
It runs Logic Pro 9 decently, and after installing ArcticFox? Browsing and watching YT vids works like a charm.
It's clearly not a technical screamer by any stretch, but legitimately capable for recording some demo quality small project tracks on IMO.
Which was my overall intended goal.
My cousin was legitimately freakin stoked, and it personally gave me pride that I could legitimately provide him a with temporary creative outlet during what's otherwise been an obviously difficult life transition.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey there. I've worked on a few of these imacs, and I'm pretty sure that thermal sensor is only useful for hd and not for ssd. Software should be able to the fan speeds. Just not 100% sure how. That's awesome of you to upgrade that imac and give it to your cousin! I've done similar by giving people a few older computers. And while they wernt super modern or the fastest, they were still totally serviceable and could do most tasks well. Most people don't need the fastest, latest, and greatest to get what they need done! Plus, the fact that you kept a cool looking older imac out of the trash! Plus i didnt have a 4gb stick at the time to max mjne to 6gb.Thanks again!

Nice video. I just recently got an early 2009 iMac 20inch & mid 2011 iMac 21.5 inch for $52 package deal. They both had 8gb of ram.
2009 iMac all work with original hard drive but user account password block. So I replaced hard hard with a 120gb SSD that I had lying around. Installed Linux mint mate work out of the box except Wi-Fi. Sound I plugged in the Ethernet cable and got all my drivers from the software center in mint. I tried a bunch of different distro, and this on seem like the best one that works. Plays 720p TH-cam video pretty good.
2011 iMac no hard drive and dvd drive doesn’t work. I out of the dvd drive. I installed 500gb SSD I had laying around. I installed Zorin OS Pro. It works right out of the box with no problems. Plays 1080p TH-cam video with no problems.

Hey there George! tyvm! That's a good idea! Since windows 10 support is going away really soon people will need to upgrade to windows 11 "if thier Hardware supports it ;(" Or maybe they can get by just fine with using Linux Mint, Ubuntu or another distro? I really have only used Mint on older hardware so I am interested in seeing how well it does gaming and what newer titles "if any Support Linux as well!" Stay tuned and thanks!

@@RememberThisTech I may have figured it out. I had to unplug and plug back in the plug. Apparently, Apple designed a feature where if the fans were thrown off or mis calculating, it would run like crazy to force it to shut down so it won’t overheat and damage itself. My fans runs now and is very quiet. Probably will have to do every now and again if it blasts loudly though I’m sure this fixed it.

Did you re thermal paste them? Pull up the system monitor while watching YT and see if the cpu is pegged. Might have to watch at 720p. Let me know what you find out. Thanks!

You wondering if about 50Mbps is enough for youtube 🤣. Come on some of us have been using youtube since the days of 10Mbps DSL! Civilization at 14fps. I told ya those strat type games can be fps heavy! This Mac has USB 2.0 which maxes out at 480Mbps. It has 802.11n which maxes out at 300Mbps. Heck, I'd be tempted to buy a 802.11ax or faster USB adapter if your router supports the faster speeds. There are ways to have gotten a newer Mac OS, but it becomes a hassle with updates. Maybe you should start shipping some of these salvaged PCs to the border to help the new americans become productive. It would be a win-win! Repurposed e-waste and helping the educational cause 😁! Funny thing about this Mac is I had been given one years ago because it was too outdated. I upgraded it to 8GB, installed a new Mac OS in it, and I sold it for $100. It is almost a sin to throw these PCs away. Do ya remember my G4 Mac story? I found the G4 crying at the dump with the rest of the electronics. I picked it up, brought it home, gave it more ram, installed OS X Leopard, and I gave it to a kid a little over 5 years old that used it for almost 5 years. We need more e-waste heroes like you!

    • @RememberThisTech
      @RememberThisTech  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hey there! The main reason I briefly tested the WIFI and wired speeds was because online i've seen a bunch of people complaining about how slot these iMacs Wifi speeds were. I dont get it. Seemed fine for me on YT! :) I had a faster AC wifi USB adapter and Linux wouldn't recognize it. As far as putting a newer Mac OS on this iMac, sure I could have but that would take more time than I had. Plus Mint was so easy. Your Mac g4 is a true success story! As far as giving away these reclaimed pcs etc it would cost more due to weight to ship them then I could justify. If it was a local drop off then I could do that for sure! We use this imac for a machine in the basement now. TYVM IDK if I'm an e-waste hero lol but ty! :)

An Intel Xeon for gaming? Surprising results!
You think these Intel CPUs are just for work? With a 4060 it ain't!
