I honestly knew very little about pete before the cyclethon. But his personality is just so magnetic everything he's in is made better by his presence. We love Pete 🙌
Pete did a great interview with the Trash Taste guys covering lot of stuff including his teaching days. As they pointed out he is a great story teller.
What a great episode Chris and Pete ❣Being married to an American myself, I automatically turned down the volume of my headphones 😂😂 These last 3 podcasts had been a real joy. Thank you for that 🤍

Hello Charismatic Chris and Pulchritudinous Pete, The camera quality in this episode is exponentially better than that in the usual ones. Yours, Sayantan.
I walked past the Waterstones flagship on Piccadilly at the weekend and there was still a big display of the Abroad in Japan book right by the entrance.
My best memory in Japan: Yogi Park in Naha taking a photo of a sakura tree in full bloom. An elderly man waved me over and pointed out 2 tiny birds in the tree and told me the name for them.
My best memory in Japan: stepping off the train in Osaka for the first time after getting off the plane from Texas. And realizing my wife and I finally made it there after all the effort. (Because since 2017 I've had bad anxiety and panic attacks around flying)
My best memory in Japan: Went to an arcade (I think I went to GiGO), got to play Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune (the newest version isn't available in America), I was grinding to make my car faster and the locals were kind enough to let me borrow their cars. I assume they wanted to level their car up, but it allowed me to keep up with them in the races. I think they were surprised I wasn't some foreigner who didn't know how to play and I was able to give them a fight. Helped me understand racers there better. People at the arcades have no life.
My best memory in Japan: Got off the N'EX in Tokyo station then somehow ended up passing the ticket gate for the Yamanote line without a ticket. I knew I had to get a ticket somewhere but I had access to the train platform already so I wandered around Tokyo station for 2 hours until I went to ask a station employee how to buy a ticket. I was 20 years old and it was my first trip ever on my own.
@DatBoiAntix your opening statement was that you went to the arcade. Yet, later on you claim that people who play at arcades have no life.... everything else sounds cool af but whats happening with that one point lol
@@Ashley-vs8nu huh. I thought I finished that sentence. What I meant to say after that was: and I kind of miss it. The arcade scene is not something you see happening at the arcades in the US. There's no good games that require skill anymore. Only machines that waste your time with useless rewards. Japanese cabinets are hard to come by or if they're here, usually they're broken because parts are sourced from Japan. The round1 in the US are mainly filled with crane machines and I noticed they're slowly pushing out Japanese games and replacing them with more crane games or shitty phone games turned arcade cabinet. Japan was great because depending on the game, there's always people watching, they have screens for people to watch the races, so it was able to become somewhat of a spectacle. I used to spend most of my time at the arcade until it got too expensive or the community dwindled. Because Japan uses their yen as coins to play, it's a lot cheaper to play there than spending $4 per game here.
Hello Chris and Pete, After listening to American Pete's story about being rejected for being confused as a TH-camr, I can kind of understand why the Japanese dislike TH-camrs/livestreamers in their shops. On my trip to Japan, I met a very famous American TH-camr, who I recognized right away at my Omakase tasting in Roppongi. I had initially wanted to say hi to him when he was done shooting, but in the end I decided not to because him and his crew ended up pissing me off. Normally, it usually isn't a huge deal when I see or meet TH-camrs in the US, but for some reason, it is just drastically worse in Japan. I was sitting in the corner of the restaurant trying to enjoy my $300 dinner, and they were constantly shouting at one another planning out their next film location during the dinner and they've even flashbanged me with one of their pocket lights to get better lighting for their shot. I also did not get to enjoy watching the chef make sushi as their cameras were all up in the shot. Once they finally left, the sushi chef gave me non-stop gomenasai's and I had to tell him it was fine, because I am American and use to it.
I saw the go karts in Osaka and not only were they annoying but... no one looked liked they were actually having fun driving through this high foot traffic area...
Are we to see the Vicar of Dibley on Abroad in Japan, or Abroad in a pan sometime in the future? Wow, congrats Chris. I read your book btw, it's quite enjoyable.
Probably my purchase that bumped ur book up, I LOVE Dawn French and I gifted myself her book The Twat Files for my birthday, then purchased your audiobook in February to keep me company on a 12hrs flight (thank you Chris, the flight went by quick) WOULD LOVE TO SEE 2 OF MY FAVE BRITS YOU & DAWN TOGETHER IN A VIDEO INTERVIEW... Hi Pete!
You touched on the tourists taking photos in front of the Lawsons and I just wanted to add my observations as I was there a few months ago. It was at Fujikawaguchiko, the Lawson by the main station. I didn't know it was such an attraction at the time but as we passed it we saw 10 or 20 people taking photos in front of it, I was confused because... its just a Lawsons... it was an overcast day so you couldn't see Mt fuji (we didnt see mt fuji our whole trip) so it was clearly a photo op built by word of mouth. Most if not all the tourist taking the pictures where Chinese, this also accounts for all the tourist coming in full charter busses, there are plenty of other tourists taking buses into town but the amount of Chinese groups where insane, I cant imagine what it would be like when its a more popular time of year!(well from the news I guess I can guess) And in defense of the tourists, the Fujikawaguchiko station and the surrounding area is VERY unfriendly to tourists. Narrow roads that many dozens of busses have to navigate hourly, and narrow sidewalks, we are talking 2 people barely have room to pass each other and its being trafficked buy hundreds of people WITH luggage, this isnt in front of the Lawsons this is just everywhere. The town clearly is trying to attract a lot of tourists but it also seems like there's a lot of contempt for them as well, or that they are falling very behind on keeping up with infrastructure. Anyways, just thought I would add my thoughts on the news.
That is so awesomely done, Pete seems like a guy you'd gladly give your old cameras to, because he deserves to shine on better equipment :) Good Guys Chris & Pete :)
I, too, am American, and have been a Dawn French fan at least since the Vicar of Dibley days. Have the bloody series memorized. Her autobiography is worth reading.
My favourite konbini are the Lawson and 7-11 smack dab in the middle of Hakone. Bastions of convenience in a town where stores and restaurants close at 6pm.
Where the hell is Pete! (No, not that Pete. The other Pete) What did you do to Pete, Chris?!? Pete, if you can read this, blink twice and we'll have a Royal Marines Brigade immediately sent to rescue you. (Though we will have to file the paperwork to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Hostage Rescue then wait at least 90 days for their response. Then, if approved, wait another 90 days for them to file a report to make an action plan to form a committee for your rescue)
Hi Chris , I am sure Joey was talking about the Lawson with Fuji behind it the other day , and I believe he said they were putting up a net not a wall .
I stayed in Kabukicho for 1 week at The Prince (brick tall building near the tracks). Honestly it was a really nice stay. Even managed to walk twice at night around the area and hit the batting cages.
I thought I was getting food poisoning... until I realised I was also stressed, and travelling a lot, and eating stuff I'm normally 100% fine with, yet suddenly there were patterns in my reaction... even though the triggers seem non sensical... So maybe you guys have IBS. Worth considering. Especially if you can describe it as "routinely" getting sick
Talking of chopping down a tree, this one is worse. Years ago a chap bought a wood for his retirement to spend his days doing horticultural work. It turned out that before the wood existed it was an. ornamental garden which was part of a lost 16th Century Manor estate. He asked a local archaeologist/historian to come and do so. investigative work to find out a little more. The guy Chris came down and by the time he finished he'd pretty much chopped down most of the wood. It's the same guy who. on a dig where they found a Bronze Age log canoe took a chainsaw to it because it wouldn't fit the transport to take it to the local museum/university for restoration and preservation... lol
Kabukicho felt safe early in the evening. Actually felt a lot safer and cleaner than other entertainment districts I have been to even in my own city. We did go for a late night wander to have a look. It was a bit grotty by then and we did see a rat. Our only vice that evening was a late night icecream. While eating it a young and very drunk Japanese couple staggered out of the Golden Gai and thought it was an excellent opportunity to practise their English. They were actually quite good and put my linguistic skills to shame.
On a course for go karts would need to be about US block big. In downtown Tokyo that would be pricey just for the land. And it is supposed to allow people see some of the sights and not really be a race. With that being said I don't like it but what you offered isn't really a solution due to the cost.
Look at the differences between Chris's arms. I know he's left-handed, as am I, but his left arm looks well defined, whereas his right arm looks like it's just got out of Auschwitz.
I was at the supermarket and a guy next to me dropped cold ready made pasta sauce (smells soooo bad) it was a orange colour and it got me face to foot. The whole way down me. I was stunned. I couldn't move. Dude was really sorry but wasn't anything he could do. Nothing ruined but my day
22:42 It's true that foreigners do bad stuff all the time in London and other touristic places around the world as well, it doesn't happen only in Japan. But it's understandable why these bad stuff are more talked about in Japan, they aren't used to it like most other touristic countries are, for them it's something different that is definetely news worthy, like "this place is getting littered more than normal" or "people aren't respecting the Maiko's privacy" etc. And especially because I imagine there aren't a lot of bigger and more serious news that happen in Japan every day or every week like it does in most countries in the west. So yeah, it's going to be big news there. Another thing is that Japan has a lot of unspoken rules, which is very different from the vast majority of other countries, so it's waaaaay easier to be disrespectful without realising, unfurtunatly.
You hear about people doing dumb stuff in Rome. If you watch more Italian focus content like you do for Japan, you would hear it more. Same with anything travel focus. And if you live in Rome I would bet you would hear fair amount about tourists being rude or doing bad things. And with those unwritten rules, like no talking on the train, stay to one side on the escalator if not walking up it. You could figure these things out just by observing what people are doing. Sadly people tend to not pay attention to little things like that.
Probably wont be heard but if pete or anyone likes a good snack and drinks, I'd recommend Shinjidai. Its as popular if not more popular than torikizoku and its well known for their chicken skin skewers. So well known that in fact currently, due to shortages, they are limiting the number of chicken skin skewers each customer can order for the time being. You can find Shinjidai in nearly every major city area in japan but they are more well known in tokyo area
Hmm, same location as Pete's premier two VOD, when he and Chris did commentary to past vids, and then Pete walked Chris to the train station....so surely this is Petes Podcast? and this features Chris?
There was a famous photo by Speedhunters with a Porsche racecar in front of a conbini so many car enthusiasts dream of having a photo of their car in front of Lawson's and/or Mt Fuji, but ordinary people taking photos of a cornershop stumbles me.
Not gonna lie, I had my one accidental bad foreigner moment in Japan. Went to puroland and ate at the cafe they had. Bought a ramen. Delicious ramen with hello kitty's face everywhere and was in a pretty "disposable" bowl. Didn't get to finish the broth. Walked to the area where you return the plates and cups. I didn't know what to do. I stood there for a good 3 minutes waiting to see what other people were doing. No one came by with a bowl of ramen like mine. In japan, there's a recycling area for unfinished drinks where you drop the remaining liquids in it, so I dropped my remaining broth and drink then threw away the disposable stuff in another trash. Little did I realize, a local behind me was mortified. She had a ramen broth like mine and I didn't realize the small hole next to the trash where you drop off everything on your tray. I didn't know you put the tray there. Nothing indicated me to put the tray there. AITA? Hahaha. Yeah probably... I'm still kind of embarrassed about it..
When I bring this up with my US friends, they like to use the Chinese as scapegoats for being rowdy tourists, when in my own experience 90% of the pushy and shouty tourists were either US American or Russian who act like they have a chip on their shoulders. I feel a bit bad for the UK folks as well because they are generally classy people who get lumped into the above due to their skin colour.
There is an actual tree like that Philosophy tree. The Sycamore Gap tree was a tree people would spend decades saving up for a trip to see, and it got chopped down by a teenager for a laugh.
The Lawson billboard is so pointless too. Most people are never gonna hear that it went up and will go anyway. Then they’ll just be more unhappy that the view isn’t there. They really didn’t think this one through.
San Francisco has those little GoCart tourist vehicles as well. I used to live on Lombard Street just before the crooked section, and I've seen countless GoCarts stall trying to go up the hill. I have no idea how they are legal in San Francisco, where we not only have a ton of hills and one-way streets, but people generally drive like shit, often in much taller vehicles.
Torikizoku seems to just rent out spaces regardless of how appropriate it is for a restaurant. They shove as many boothes as they can into a tiny space and just put a grill and a bar in the back. That being said, its a predictable and cheap food and alcohol source. Its a pleanty fine place to order some food off an iPad (with an English menu) if you already spent your day exploring and you don't have the energy to figure out something more challenging.
English understatement it is part of our culture to be that way ... Least till we get a few drinks in us lol. Jonny Somali gets my vote as the worst streamer behavior wise I have ever seen in Japan.. Keep up the good work Chris .. enjoyed watching you since around 2018 ish... It's been quite the ride thus far ❤ kudos.
20:30 I think most the japanese does not concern with what the foreigner do wrong from an accident (human do mistake sometime) but what they do after that to amment it.
Just a short comment. The noise has nothing to do with the age when you are outside. Common safety reaction. Never liked it, even when I was little. You are just aware of your surroundings. Love your videos and streams!!!🖤🖤🖤

Hello Chris and Pete,
After listening to American Pete's story about being rejected for being confused as a TH-camr, I can kind of understand why the Japanese dislike TH-camrs/livestreamers in their shops.
Broken mug calls for Pete to learn kintsugi on stream 😀
Clear,coherent and doesn’t have a STUTTER!
30:00 looks fun though
just a suggestion if you can move the camera so both of you are in focus would be really nice
I tried Maricar 6 years ago. It’s scary because you are low on the ground on a regular road speeding
I suggest going to the southernmost place in Japan in order to replace the mug... Just a thought...
Finally, the real Pete!
Mister affable beat out Dawn French of AbFab.. impressive, most impressive.
Truly!
Hilariously I imagine a lot of those tourists got the idea from a Tokyo creative video!
What makes this a podcast? Doing interviews?
Love American Pete - if we could only harness his energy and positivity the world would be a better place!
Pete looks like he was tearing up 😢 He genuinely felt terrible over that accident. I'm sure the girl knew it was an accident as well
Chris' evil laugh HAHAHAHA..😆
Big respect to Pete for paying for the lady's shoes.
Yay, it's American Pete! ❤
American Pete should always be the co-host!!
Both Petes are great
Kristen being weird again
Pete Donaldson is also great.
Don't you ever talk about replacing Pete Donaldson!
Pete Donaldson is the goat
20:30 I think most the japanese does not concern with what the foreigner do wrong from an accident (human do mistake sometime) but what they do after that to amment it.
Just a short comment. The noise has nothing to do with the age when you are outside. Common safety reaction. Never liked it, even when I was little. You are just aware of your surroundings.
Love your videos and streams!!!🖤🖤🖤
How do I get that Pete energy?
i see Pete,i click ❤!!
The first time I saw Pete I was convinced he was Jack Quaid on a huge career change after being burned out from acting.
Build a billboard picture of Mt. Fuji on top of the Lawson store. Maybe if it blocks the real Mt. Fuji it will stop all the tourists.
"新しいね。。。" oh man, I felt that pain
I also felt that guilt, ouch
Heard it now watching 💖✨
Itsmo no bar was amazing!
