sadly, this is nothing new for foreigners doing borderline criminal acts abroad. there is a french canadian *docu-film* made by a humorist. Film's name is "Nos voisins Dhantsu". It's simply guys doing pranks and generally harrasing japansese people under the pretext of talking about japan. In case your french canadian is poor and google translate can't make sense of the word Dhantsu, it's a bad play on word trying to sound Japanese while saying "Nos voisins d'en dessous". litteraly, our down under neighbors.

There's a reason why Jp has a 99% conviction rate. Police do not move at all until they can get a full conviction on you. Public nuisance whilst is a felony but wouldn't be a guaranteed conviction. Trespassing on a construction site, on camera WITH people actually working there? Oh you bet they've got everything they need on him!

Dunno about Japan, but Singapore and other South East Asia countries have policies to forbid some people to enter through airport immigration. Even if someone able to fly from their departure country, they're halted in immigration, not allowed to go out from airport. Burn their ticket money basically

The foreigner, who punched Johnny Somali, owns a bar in Osaka. And from my understanding of the situation, JS and his friend were harassing a young Japanese female streamer before that guy punched him. (JS was also being a nuisance to that guy and his friend, too).
And I really hope that Japan makes an example of him. I saw that he could face 3 years minimum in prison for the first trespassing charge alone..m
what angered me the most about Johnny Somali is, he always played the race card whenever someone got back at him or retaliate. he would call them racists while he, himself was the one being racist by doing things as he wanted, harassing locals and not even give a damn with the consequences. I remembered very much when he went to Bali, the Indonesian tagged the Indonesian Immigration and he immediately put on their watch list, which was why he only spent 4 days in Bali before he went to Thailand (where he got punched and choked and slapped several times, which were very satisfying).
What happend is the female streamer was on twitch, if you are banned on twitch if someone else streams them they will also get banned. He is banned and so was trying to get her banned by being in her stream.
I wish he tries his dumb crap in Balcans...any state. Hahaha!

It was so satisfying seeing the foreigner deal to that Johnny dude, even more satisfying knowing the tool has been arrested.
Don't worry is American born Japanese are going to have a little something for him once he gets back home.
I took pains to be as polite as possible when I visited Tokyo in February 2020,even going so far as to not eat and drink while walking. So hearing about Johnny Somali getting away with being a dickhead, while I and so many other visitors were following the rules was infuriating. I hope he gets prison time, so he , and other foreign streamers get the message that you can't visit Japan and act like an asshole and not expect consequences. I and other visitors try our best to follow the rules, and it pisses me off Somali has made all foreign visitors look bad.
That is so true. My biggest fear when coming here was offending anyone! I think it's incredibly disrespectful when somebody takes it as far as he did. I'm glad there's been consequences.
I'm never visiting Japan - so please don't get upset that I don't know this - what's wrong with eating / drinking while walking?
They really aren't gonna care about your eating and drinking while walking. Japanese people aren't walking around judging foreigners about informal rules. I've been there a few times for work and they really couldn't be bothered by small things like that. Just avoid the big ones. Besides, a lot of the politeness goes out the window there after alcohol is involved anyway.
@@JessiFaySsome outdated law or "rule" that people just never bothered updating, lots of countries have weird things like that that are so old that people ignore or forget it. Japan has a ton of food designed to for you to be able to snack on while walking, usually marketed towards students. Festival goers or for someone shopping who wants a snack
@@ajohnson9630 I guess, but the main reason I was being extra careful, is because this was the first time I'd traveled internationally, and I was by myself. I wanted to make extra sure I didn't get myself in trouble for breaking a rule.

What I can NEVER understand is the social media Johnny Somali uses never banned him. They allowed him to do what he do (Bully, Harass and disrespect), suspended him and gave him access again.

Japanese jails are notorious for having extremely harsh conditions I hope Johnny experiences the consequences for his actions. I don’t wish ill on people but Johnny was obnoxiously pushing the limit, hopefully this will sober him up to reality.

@@mason6300 Foreigners who end up in Japanese prisons often go missing, either in prison or right after they are released. There have even been cases where they vanish from prison transport vehicles. Look it up. He will say the wrong thing to the wrong guard or prisoner in lockup, and wont even make it to prison.
Give him 6-12 months which may be reduced to 3-6 months served. In terms of sentencing, that's good enough for me given the *MAX* sentence possible for the worst trespass conceivable would be years. For me sentencing is about doing what's *RIGHT* according to the law, not "setting an example" or like in the US - "revenge". Add on top a hefty fine such that whatever he made for being utter garbage won't be there anymore - it's all lost due to making stupid choices - there are consequences. On top of that, expelled and permanent ban on all no flight / no passport lists - he'll need to try out his nonsense in the US and see how *THAT* plays out for him. Again, it's about consequences, not necessarily prison time being maxed.
US prisons are a cushy vacation to most foreign prisons.

Yes, but just remember that they had to have an audience in the first place for kids to find them. Kids don't just look for these people. And who's to blame for that? Bad adults that have that kind of humour. And there's enough of them that Johnny gets enough traction for kids to see him. *I met Johnny Somali in Japan on August 31.*
He was wearing a Maid costume along with his two friends while recording and making a lot of noise in the Red district of Osaka. I think they were getting kicked out of a Karaoke bar (or denied entry idk). I didn't know who he was even when he said "I'm Johnny Somali and I'm famous on kick" but quickly realized staying there with him would probably get me arrested and got back on my way, specially because If you dare to take photos or video in that place, you get fined 100,000 yen (about 700 dollars), and the police confiscates everything you have.
One week ago I saw him in the news and realized I was right: Spending any time talking to him was asking for REAL trouble.
Glad you refrained from interacting with him any further. What ‘a headless chicken’ (an insult my younger cousin came up with).
As an American, I am ashamed of his behavior. I really hope his case remains focused on his character rather than those from the US and foreigners in general. I loved the time I spent in Japan and I have every intention of returning. It would be a shame if his behavior influenced how people would interact with me.
I detected from his accent, he's not as American as I am, so I wholly reject him and don't feel any responsibility. We should deport him to like North Korea.

Since bringing the podcast onto TH-cam, I've always found it weird that Chris and Pete are facing the same way instead of "towards each other" when they are not together in the same room. It makes my brain go all fuzzy.

Just got you book delivered to me, super excited to read through it and relive some of my days from Japan. Edo mura is great I went there before.
Chris -- I don't know about three months to get a six-pack, but here are some basics. 1) You can't spot-reduce. It's not possible to just lose fat off your stomach only, for instance. Fat loss tends to be an all-over thing. Getting a six-pack involves building your abs for sure, but also depends on taking your body fat percentage to a much lower amount. 2) Weight lifting is great for fat loss, and you'll build some muscle on the way, plus build stamina and balance. 3) Work with a trainer -- one who knows what he's doing and isn't on his phone swiping left and right while you pay them to do that. 4) Reduce or quit alcohol. 5) Protein and veg will be your friends; forget eating for pleasure and take up eating to build muscle. 6) Take up cardio, it'll be good for you in the long run. I've been working out for a year with a trainer, and while you don't know me, if I can do it, anyone can. Good luck! 😀
it's all about diet. screw cardio. lol. I spent a few years in the Army, so it ruined me for cardio. "wake up at 3am to go do a 5 mile run - aka FUN RUN". morning coffee, a decent breakfast with no carbs and go outside and split some wood in the morning. No gains, but i can maintain a very healthy body weight.
As someone in the early stages of kidney disease be very careful about adding protein to your diet before having your doctor test for levels first. You can wreck your kidneys with even a typical American diet nevermind the protein packed shakes and foods. It's a really big problem and can cause irreversible kidney damage :(

you do realize that farmers in America for YEARS eat like a dozen eggs a day? The thing with protein is that your body has to use it or it will plug the body up.
The only people i know who have kidney problems from too much protein are people that go to the gym 10 days a week and are constantly juicing.@@AmandaComeauCreates
I would add core to that. The trainers I've worked with emphasize all the above, plus core and HIIT cardio. I have a bad back that flares up about once a year, and core training seems to help with that.

Just found this "other" Abroad in Japan channel and I found it very entertaining and educational.
JGov really needs to make an example of this guy. Anytime someone comes to Japan and acts like a fool, it gets a ton of attention and other clout-chasers see it as a way for them to get noticed. This guy deserves as much punishment as they can give him, and they need to do it to prevent others from acting like he does.

i'm a china expat of 20 years (American actually), your podcast reminds me of the podcasts of expats in china around 2007-2010. Very laid back, cool, and at this point nostalgic. Japan is certainly one of the places i intend on visiting for sure.

Tbh on the shop opening times: in japan we’ve seen lot more sensible openings than in the UK, hobby related shops are from 10am till 8pm so people who work office hours can also visit and buy. But in the uk for example since last year most shops close 5 or maybe 6pm the latest and i can’t go shopping, so i have to go on weekends or take a day off. Then the owner complains to me that people don’t shop there but online, guess whose fault it is.
Quick tip for anyone going next summer, look up restaurants that will be open in the morning for breakfast, lots of them don’t open until 9-10 A.M., stay inside the hotel/AirBnB or places with AC between 11:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. and then plan your day around the afternoon, sundown and late night.

5:33 Nikko is awesome! I went hiking there during my first trip to Japan back in 2008 and I loved it! I returned in the spring of 2019 and got to see the Tōshō-gū (Japan's version of rococo). Very impressive even if the style isn't my cup of tea!

It’s unfortunate but true. Many Japanese don’t travel beyond their borders, so when us gaijin visit japan we become ambassadors and representatives of our countries / hemisphere. We may likely be their only bases for viewing foreigners.
The times I’ve been unfairly judged in Japan could partly be explained by people who look like me behaving like arseholes and causing the Japanese to look less favourably upon me as a result. I can understand it if not condone it.

Ismael Ramsey Khalid [aka "Johnny Somali"] -- don't forget there have been over 30 different police call incidents in Japan... as well, since the King Moron films and streams everything, that's a ton of evidence -- including when the police finally let him go (or he runs away), he blatantly claims he owns them and everyone in Japan, and as an American he's allowed to do whatever he wants, and they can't stop him... Even during one recent police stop (just before the knockout punch incident) he was being questioned by police (again, recorded and streaming for evidence) where he said if they dared touch him or tried to stop him, that he would physically hurt them [the police]...
So while they may have finally charged him with trespassing; that doesn't mean they haven't collected video records of all the other crimes, threats, and peace disturbances he has done -- so it wouldn't surprise me if they packed on other charges... The police in Japan don't like to prosecute unless they're pretty sure about getting a conviction -- and King Moron has provided them with months and months of all his crimes, racism, cowardice, threats, and intentional disrespect... So there's a good chance that simply being Deported and nothing else is the best he can hope for... Given all his past actions, the Japanese prison may be his home for a long time...

Hi Chris, it's really important to understand that Kick is purely an advertising vehicle for it's parent online gambling website. That's it's only purpose. They want as much traffic as possible on kick regardless of how they achieve it, as a percentage will end up gambling (just check the number of their top streams sponsored by gambling), making them a huge amount of money.

I can’t stand cardio either Pete, especially running 🫠 About 3 years however, I got into Jiu Jitsu, fell in love with it, and the training and rolling is an amazing cardio workout. I lost 30kg just training and having fun. Anyways, consider trying out some BJJ, you’ll get great cardio in and learn ground karate. It’s addictive. Love you guys, all the best! Kyokushin is one of the most popular karate styles. They teach it to children. It's full contact, but it's not *that* hardcore (some specific dojo's might be more hardcore of course)
Heard about this while I was visiting Japan and so glad that asshole's cruelty (call it what it is) was finally clamped down upon.

I've been to Nikko just a few weeks ago and it's really nice, the temples in Nikko while gorgeous are way too touristy and crowded, I much more enjoyed lake Chunzenji area.
If you go to Nikko go to Roppongazawa observation deck, the view from there was one of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen, the roads north from there were also really nice, there are some beautiful farm/ranches on the way and they have spectacular views, I really envy the farmers living there
Do you guys stop at car stops to eat, or use the onsen ( the ones that have it). I took a tour to Lake Biwa and Kyoto when I was a student at a Japanese Language school in Okazaki City. We stopped in a couple of the auto stops and they were awesome.
Japanese Time Zone:
Japan is actually in the correct timezone and is currently set according to its line of longitude, as it should be (UTC/GMT+9).
The reason the sun sets sooner is because the majority of Japan lies at a lower latitude and therefore further away from the North Pole. The UK is considerably further North than Japan (even further north than Hokkaido) and therefore the sun sets considerably later, even in the south of the UK, compared to Japan. This is also why the UK has darker and more miserable winters.
That doesn't really make sense though. I'm at a similar latitude to Okinawa at the moment but the sun sets at 7pm whereas Okinawa is about 6pm.
In summer and winter Japan's sunrise is early and sunset early.

One of the biggest laughs I've had in a while was Johnny S. getting knocked out. The man is literally unconscious and his stream is lit up by people laughing at him. He's arrested and done as a streamer. The world is a better place.

Yeah, he's probably going to be 'encouraged' by this, unfortunately. Sort of like that utter dipshit who said he's going to continue making his 'content' despite getting shot (near point blank range) and hospitalised while filming a so-called prank. Everyone cheered when the shooter was found not guilty (at least of the main charges, the minor ones are being appealed, IIRC).

There are also oiran and apprentices actresses and actors dressed up for the Oiran Dochu (a reenactment of an oiran parade to show off the oiran to "potential clients" on the streets, walking in an 8-figure pattern with their tall geta). It was typically done during the night, but for practical reasons, Nikko Edomura does it during the day.
As of the day this episdoe came out (oct. 5, '23) johnny's last tweet was Sept 21, '23 so still in the clink I guess.

You often say not to travel to Japan in the summer because of the sweltering heat. Is it still unbearably hot if you go as far north as Hokkaido if you wanted to go in July/August? My partner's birthday is the end of July and they love Sapporo. I wanted to plan our vacation around the birthday but always passed on the destination due to your stories.
If it helps, I did the stupid thing and went to central and south Japan incl. Okinawa this late Aug- Sept. It's f*king hot, jeez louise more than any country I've been to that you classically think of as 'hot', BUT I still had an amazing time. And sweated. A lot. If you're going North that's much more sensible than what I did, and if I (and my Dad, in 60s) can survive that, the North would likely be at least a little better. Having said that, if you can push it any later at all- do so. Even a week makes a lot of difference as we had friends travelling just ahead of us, and the heat was insane. I lived in Japan for 7 years. If you fly into Tokyo during July/August, prepare yourself for high temperatures plus humidity - minimum 80%, sometimes 90%. And as someone from Southern California, I can confirm wet heat is more uncomfortable (and dangerous, since sweating isn’t as effective) than dry heat. However! I’ve also been to Hokkaido in August (2019), and yes, it’s much less hot and humid in Sapporo. This may have changed since 2019 because of climate change and all, but yeah, if you want to avoid the sweltering heat, maybe try flying directly to Sapporo.

Some shops are open 24hrs, mostly convience stores like 7 eleven and family mart. Regular restaurants will close and other necessities around 8pm. Of course, depends on the area so you don't need to worry about it
Bars are open until the first train at 8am so it's a very night shift type job
2:27 no IC card is not that big of a deal. We drove 6 hours across japan recently. The only issue is there are a few tollway entrances that ONLY accept IC cards but these are mostly in smaller towns and you can always drive to the next entrance, although this may take time.
Question for those who are more knowledgeable than I:
How has Johnny Somali managed to stay in Japan that long? He doesn't appear to have a regular job, so no work visa. Tourist visas are only good for 90 days. What type of visa does he have that has allowed him to be present in the country for 6 months?
The cops can detain you here for a long time, 2 weeks for no visa, they deport you, the forms were in Japanese of course, but when I went to jail place to visit some nice office workers, who didn’t like the system, were so nice to me helped me with all the forms and I GOT IN THE JAIL TO VISIT, and got to talk to my 2 girlfriends, and left a small cake they said they got it. There was a cop sitting there listening to every word but I talked real Fast, and said I could do something if we’ll because I knew someone they said they were ok. So the did get kicked out and yes 2 weeks.

I feel like there are aspects of Japan that are being credibly designed to have the kind of connoted aspiration of being 'like a theme park', I have heard people discussing the spate of construction that a lot of people assumed was for the olympics but ultimately turned out to simply... continue and arguably at a more heightened pace... I mean, it's not so much that you can call it that, it's not a joke but, in aspirational town planning, it is becoming accepted in a lot of countries to acknowledge the impact of tourism and to plan in such and such a manner as to be as hospitable as possible while at the same time shielding everyday life from the gratuitousness of some people's behaviour. Certainly, there is a new mainstream emerging, in my view as it relates to what is considered, 'everyday places' and what is considered 'tourism focused' but I mean, even within that bubble there are certain streams of desire as you credibly and others have probably made note of and obviously commented on over the years. Certainly, the population crunch puts a kind of strain on the country to become less of a foreboding migration destination and part of that is putting in place the kinds of amenities and safeguards that keep Japan statistically in the same field of low crime and high economic yield that it traditionally has been. I mean, there's an entire book on the subject or, many, to be had... it's a type of renaissance, for instance, out in the prefectures there is a greater push towards autosport tourism which is year by year, gaining traction so, I mean, I believe there is in some parts of society a desire to be envied around the world but at the same time, cultural alienation is the potential risk... so I mean, a book or many to be written... sorry about the length of the text... it's really just the tip of the iceberg...

I highly doubt it, people like Logan Paul and this guy simply don't care. these aren't the type of people who care about what other people think. These are the type of people who think the word revolves around them, that they are better then everyone else, and they get joy out of disrespecting and bothering other peoples lives. Actually trying to tell them not to do something likely only pushes these types of people to do it more, they are the type of people who don't like to be told what to do and being told they can't do something will only push them to do it more to prove a point.

To be fair, getting a 6-pack is surprisingly a lot simpler than people led on. For the untrained person, 6 months is ample time if they only just learned how to work out. A once overweight gym buddy of mine started lifting at the beginning of this year and has shown progress to some weight loss and muscle buildup, then did a challenge to specifically work on abs and chest for a six pack.
Did it in 45 days. It just takes dedication and perseverance, and 3 months is a well enough amount of time to get a beautiful set of abs

@@lottefrp3683 Most Americans not in the know would read "Melbourne" and say "Mell-burn", but the Australian way of saying it is "Mel-bin". It's a bit of a shibboleth, like Canada's Toronto being pronounced "Tuh-ron-oh" or New York City's famous Houston Street being pronounced "House-tun".

To your idea of getting a 6 pack and losing a lot of belly fat, try abdominal twists as a workout. They're easy to do, and so much better for both your abs and spine than sit ups. You also lose belly fat faster. It was a workout my track coach had me do in high school for throwing. After long enough doing them, you get absolutely shredded.
3 month to get abs is super hard for a lot of people. It's not the training that will get you, it's the eating. If you want to do it in around 3 months, there are no cheat days. You're eating boring, less than you're used, and it's not constant either; you have to adjust if you're losing weight too fast or too slow. It's hard.

12:30 Yes, It's cocky. 6 months is more realistic but also be aware that it might be physically impossible. Some people can only attain a 4 pack or even a 5 pack depending on the muscles that you have. Everyone is different and everyone gains and loses weight differently. Some people gain weight around the middle first and would have to go to extremes (like sub 1% body fat) to attain it.
I would set the goal of trying to "gain definition" in the abs by focusing on exercise that strengthens the core. If you are one of the lucky few you might not need to do anything else.
