Chris Broad talking about a Florida man. I feel seen (as a Floridian in Tampa) 😆Lost power for 5 days and I will never joke about hurricanes ever again. I taught in Japan for 6 years (I recently left this past January, but moving back next spring) and always joked about hurricane parties (buying your favorite food to prepare because you can't go to work or school), but Milton was honestly traumatic. Thanks for your well wishes ❤ Listening to your podcast helped me have some normalcy and sleep as the hurricane hit. Slowly getting back to normal now.

As an artist that focuses on the human face, it really makes you realize the variety that is normal, even drawing beautiful people you kinda go huh, I didn’t realize how tall their forehead is, or how long their nose is.
Drawing faces has made me realize I’m not as weird looking as I thought, like I don’t have a giant egg forehead, it’s actually fairly normal. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I've lived in Japan and while they do comment on looks way more than they do in Canada and I do feel more pressure to look put together there, the pressure doesn't feel quite as bad as Korea; plastic surgery isn't considered "very normal" on the same level it is in Korea. I could definitely live in Japan again; on the other hand I love kpop but as a woman in my 40's I don't think you could pay me to live in Korea I just feel like I'd be so insecure and hate myself.

    • @GameFuMaster

Korea is definitely a more "streamlined" beauty standard.
Japan feels more emphasized on behavioral than looks.

@@xiola I find the honestly refreshing. It's too easy to really let yourself go in the West, because nobody is really honest about appearance. I do notice how big Western frames are when I leave Japan, and I could understand Western women (I think men less so) having more issues with body dismorphia. As for plastic surgery, that's a big "no" for me, ugh.

Here's the thing, all of these crazy standards are online trends amongst young girls and this campaign was targeting young girls. The people commenting on this article are adults who are not even aware of the ridiculous trends. I am an adult woman and I live in the west, but unfortunately due to the fact that I still listen to asian pop and watch asian dramas and movies, I am aware of these trends among young girls. It is unfortunately a thing and maybe this campaign was also an opportunity for parents to become aware of what their young daughters are getting exposed to in online communities.

I saw northern lights 4 days ago in Iceland. Took pictures, of course if you edit it looks more impressive. But it's hard to define "editing" with cellphone computational photography out of the box already being pretty much already considerably processed. If you own a Samsung use night mode on northern lights, it will blow your top off.

hmm... to my non jaapnese ears, sounds more like how its often just 'keep it under wraps' or 'dont put it out too public'. I dont' think japan didn't know of these standards, just that they feel uncomfortatble that they're being "called out" on it, or it being public with such a large international company. its similar to talks about binging or anarexia and bring awareness that this is a common issue, for people to say 'if you didn't mention it I wouldn't notice so don't talk about it"

My country has this program called “healthy plate”. We were taught to eat quarter portion of protein, quarter portion of rice (because it’s a staple food, u can change to other carbo) and 1/2 of your plate for vegies and fruits. Because we’re big on gravy, we were taught how many scoops of gravy is healthy 🤣🤣🤣. Its very helpful if you love to eat or when you eat out.

In regards to Lt Dan, Joe.
I'm not sure you've spent enough time in Florida to be speaking on who or who not to stay away from.
You tell us all the about youtubers traveling to Japan while not knowing the culture and being disrespectful.
I'm a Tampa local and have lived in Florida for 37 years. Sure Joe has mug shots. Sorry to tell you, everyone in Florida has papers. "Come on vacation, leave on probation" is literally a thing here.
"He tried to set a woman on fire" - wrong, he was cleaning a park bench with a little gas on a rag at night.
"Resisting arrest" he punched a cop. Who hasn't.
"Assault and batt" he hit a methhead.
Those are literally the worst of his charges. The rest are failure to appear and drug charges.
Joe just wanted to be left alone and no body would respect that from the beginning. To the point his own daughter is clout chasing.
He didn't ask to get involved with any of the kick degenerates.
    They all flocked to him.
    #leavejoealone.

There's a reason why the "Florida Man" meme exists.
All the justification in the world could not explain all the kookiness going on down there ... lol 😅😂
      With Headlines such as:
"Florida man charged with assault after throwing alligator through Wendy’s drive-thru window"
