Hi Paul, On 21st July, I watched this video over and over again. And 10 days later, today, my 1st coloring book is published. Working on my 2nd book now Thank you so much, Paul...you are absolutely awesome...keep making these videos
Thanks for making these videos, I've recently published my first coloring book via KDP titled "A Christmas Escape" and it was so much fun. Please keep up everything you're doing!

Wow thanks. That cover and coloring pages look great. I did find out recently too that coloring pages can be edited in Canva to adjust for things like too much grayscale in the image. You go into edit photo, adjust and adjust the contrast and brightness. I did test it out and it does work and makes a huge difference. You can do the same in Book Bolt I do believe. Thanks for the video I have been having a hard time with prompts for coloring pages and book covers so this helps.

Do you buy your own barcodes or use the free Amazon ones? As I always wondered how people did financially with using the Amazon barcodes when they had a pretty successful book. Great tutorial by the way.
Hi Paul! Really appreciate your KDP videos as I’ve been watching them for a while now. After see this, I thought I’d give it a try and do a coloring book. One question I have though is do customers expect a coloring page in the book of the exact cover art?
It doesn’t have to be exactly the same. The easiest way is to grab similar pictures from mid journey that have the same prompt apart from the black and white/colour parts. Otherwise, you either convert a colour one to b&w for the interior, or edit a black and white one to colour it. I was doing the latter recently before I realised I didn’t need to do all that work.
Hi Paul. I am following you from Denmark and learning so much! Thank you for a very informative video as always - I have just one question: Do you need to vectorize the black and white coloring pages for the interior? Thanks in advance. Kind regards.
I watched this video 4 months ago (and all the others before this one), I followed the whole setup, created 12 coloring books, did not do any advertisement/marketing, I apparently sold 5 books as of right now (28 November 2023). I have no doubt that there is space for improvement somewhere, although I'm not sure if it will be something capable of "passive income" or even pay some bills. I think I'll have to learn more and dedicate a bit more of my time to understand the Amazon KDP ecosystem so that I can understand why it's not working for me. I'm sure others may have different outcomes.
Thanks "Captain" Great Video as always! Question please: Do you have any "magic prompts" to keep the same style and consistency throughout all images once you have found one that you like?
Thanks to you, I published one last week and I’m working on an Halloween and Christmas now. My only thing is, do you find your doing good on selling your coloring books? I know it can take awhile so I can’t wait to get my first sale. 😊
Hi, thank you for such detailed videos. I just want to ask do you ever use bookbolt to create your books instead of Canva? Do you think Canva is easier?
Hi Paul, great tutorial, as always👍🏻. However, I don't understand why you don't go to upscale the images of the interior... at 15:17 in fact you say that the images upscaled by MJ are 72 dpi and therefore don't need to be scaled. Why? How is it different from the cover, which was always 72 dpi?🤔 Thank you!
Great tutorial, thank you Paul! Question, do you know how to position specific elements, for e.g. the house in the bottom third of the illustration, to leave space for the text?
Lower the transparency of your background image and you will see the KDP template underneath. So you can now position your text within the pink borders of the template.
@@paulmarles Thanks again Paul. I was feeling stuck, trying to do the "perfect" book when your new tutorial popped up. Something simple (in the best way possible) and fun.
Thank you for the beautiful video. I enjoyed it and benefited from it. Please, I would like to ask you: Is it better to use different fonts in the title, meaning writing Halloween in one font and a children's coloring book in another font, or to use one font in the title as you did, and thank you.
Do you need to make a note that there is blank pages within your coloring books so ppl purchasing them know? (All coloring books I get for our kids, if they say 80pages+, there are designs side by side and front to back. I personally wouldn’t be happy purchasing an 80 page coloring books and not knowing that majority of it is blank pages.)
Your videos are great Paul. I think I'm going to go back and watch your old ones. I have become quite dissolution with AI. Not just my own results but the whole mess. I downloaded more than 10 packets of coloring book pages. Each one included over 100 pictures. As I went through the pictures I realized that each packet was very similar. Then as I looked closer, I could see the bizarre imperfections. Especially with the "cute animals". Several had an extra limb. Do these people not check the pictures? I can only imagine a kid coloring those. Then the Halloween packets are even more bizarre. Many just made my head hurt looking at them. Always check the hands. Not to mention bits and pieces floating around that are not quite birds or leaves on the plants with eyes.... A lot of pictures just would never make sense when you are trying to color them. Places where the picture kind of melts.... They just do not work. The video you did on the vintage car on a bridge... They look good at 10,000 feet but on closer inspection things just aren't right. Sorry for the rant but after several months of mucking about with AI I think I've had it. I did sell a couple of journals and will continue to use AI to generate ideas and even some verbiage, but I'm really going to scrutinize anything that I use in a coloring book. Sorry about the rant but I really got frustrated inspecting more than 1000 coloring book pictures today.... And keep up the good work.
Hello Paul, another awesome video. I have a question. I am trying to create a graffiti-style coloring book. I have yet to be able to come up with the correct verbiage to make any AI art generator design a graffiti-style image. You know, the graffiti that is usually seen on old buildings that have been spray painted on. I am trying to design actual pieces of art that appear as if it is an actual art piece that is painted onto the side of a building or sidewalk or warehouse door etc. It doesn't seem as if AI art generators recognize graffiti artists. I can manually manipulate words and letters to give it that graffiti vibe, but I am trying to create that real street graffiti art style that is often depicted on train cars or the graffiti art that has been showcased on brick walls for display. Oh well, I guess I am just reaching. Oh yeah, I am a subscriber on my other channel. I started my KDP Publishing business from your videos. I have now published 50 books. Thank you so much. I genuinely appreciate you!!!😊👍
Congratulations on publishing those books. That's great to hear. Are you trying to create graffiti style text? I know a lot of AI generators don't seem to be too good at creating text at the moment.
KDP keeps telling me that my image has objects beyond the image's safety margin, but those are items that aren't important and could be clipped. Another problem is the email that KDP sends me asking me to add the bleed, but when I do that, I get another error saying that I sent a larger file than I chose when I created the book. "Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size" I don't know where I'm going wrong
Hey Paul, thank for sharing! BTW: when pricing, why is this message "Not offered in this marketplace" appearing. Does that mean that the book won't be available in those marketplaces?
Amazing tips. Ive been following along. Thanks. However. I just realize. KDP cannot proceed in my Country Indonesia. At the last step when publishing. It required me to enter banking detail, which are not available. No country to choose. 😅
Hi Paul. Let me start saying thank you very much for creating these videos. I'm a beginner and I followed along on an older video you released titled create a journal to sell on Amazon kdp for free and I'm happy to say because of you I was able to accomplish successfully submitting my first 6x9 journal on kdp. I have a question for you. Can I reuse the same template that I downloaded over again or do I have to download a new one for each journal? Also same question for the pages. One part confused me though and I have refrained from making another one because in the video you larger number in the width box and the smaller number in the height box in canva. Should they be reversed?
Question: if you make a coloring book with 40 pages or so for coloring, but include a page that teaches marker rendering techniques, a page that teaches layered pencil coloring, color theory, highlights, shadows, how to control the viewer's eye path around the page, and how to elicit a specific emotion, does it still fit in the KDP catigory?
It would still be a book you publish via KDP. If you mean is it clasified as low content then as it's a coloring book, no, it wouldn't fall under the low content category.
Hmm, very interesting, so publishing on amazon is actually free? They only get the cut when order has been made? How are you receiving the money if order been made? Do you have to provide your credit card information or paypay?
It keeps the file size smaller. You can often get away without doing it but if you have too many layers then there can be issues with file size and uploading it to KDP.

hi, everything is very nice, but I think you can make a video on how to fix the unapproved page margin etc. For example, I took the same steps just like you, but then kdp said in the mail and I don't know how to fix this coloring book: Attention needed: Please review your title, Hi! We checked your files and found issues you need to fix before your book can be published on KDP: Interior Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size. See examples PDF page(s) 63. Watch our video, which explains trim size, margins, and bleed. Hi Paul! I Have a question, please. When you upload the coloring page to canva you don't use the KDP Interior Margin Template, and you fill all the page. When I try to do the same thing with my bleed coloring book and upload it on KDP I get the email rejection from Amazon. So I'm confused about when to use your KDP Interior template and when not?

"Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page. Once you have added the size, extend any images or backgrounds that you want to reach all the way to the edge of the page 0.125” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim line. This prevents manufacturing issues when the file is trimmed to size"
I don't know where I'm going wrong
Any images that are outside the margin that you don;t mind getting clipped need to go beyond the edges of the page.
Hey Paul, thank for sharing! BTW: when pricing, why is this message "Not offered in this marketplace" appearing. Does that mean that the book won't be available in those marketplaces?
Yes, that would normally be the case.
@@paulmarles Thanks. And is there a way to activate (so to speak) a Marketplace? Ik would be interested in Canada.
Amazing tips. Ive been following along. Thanks.
However. I just realize. KDP cannot proceed in my Country Indonesia.
At the last step when publishing.
It required me to enter banking detail, which are not available. No country to choose. 😅
ever considered using book bolt instead of canva?
I do use it but not for putting together a cover and interior like this.
Yes, you can reuse the template. In fact, you car reuse the Canva files - just save as a different file name and change up the content.
The cover is more wide than tall as it’s one page which wraps around the front, spine and back.
do we say yes or no, when kdp asks if the content is AI generated or not?
How to calculate total all pages? inclde with the blank page or just only coloring page??
Hi , Is there any reason you don’t do a introduction page at the Beginning of any of your books ?
Why do you click on the "Flatten PDF" before you download?
It keeps the file size smaller. You can often get away without doing it but if you have too many layers then there can be issues with file size and uploading it to KDP.
Thank you @paulmarles - as always great info!
You're welcome.
Hello! paul, i’m a big fan in south korea. i’d like to ask you something about keyword research.
As a result of my search, there is big difference when the category ALL and BOOK( Book more ~2000)
Which category should i refer to? 😅😅
Nice
paul, hi your videos are. great and i got into the course with kathryne on your link. i create all my images in midjourney and use --ar 85:110 for them and when i uoload them to crystal theyre 1024 x 1024. whatam i doing wrong? its so frustrating and is taking weeks. thx
I don't know. If you're using --ar 85:110 it should create them in the correct ratio. Do they look square in MidJourney?
i got an answer from Isaac and he looked at my screenshot and saw i had a space in between --- and ar. i created alot of images and it was a learning experience for sure. it defaults to square. thanks@@paulmarles
Hi Mr Paul how can I pay for your course training?
hi, everything is very nice, but I think you can make a video on how to fix the unapproved page margin etc. For example, I took the same steps just like you, but then kdp said in the mail and I don't know how to fix this coloring book: Attention needed: Please review your title,
Hi!
We checked your files and found issues you need to fix before your book can be published on KDP:
Interior
Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) to your book's page width and 0.25" (6.4 mm) to the page height to ensure that the images in your manuscript extend beyond the edge of the page.
Where possible, we give pages numbers with examples. To make sure your entire book meets our guidelines, please review your entire manuscript file and fix all issues.
To update book details, go to your KDP Bookshelf. If you update your manuscript or cover, you'll have to upload the revised file to KDP. We'll review your book again to ensure it meets our requirements.

Here is a video on bleed and margins: th-cam.com/video/bl7fsrHKaGs/w-d-xo.html
GUYS Is it safe to use Ai pics on amazon kdp ?
Question: so if I buy the basic plan for midjourney does that include a commercial license?
Hello Paul in this video I could not be able to follow u bcox screen was not shown up clearly why😢
Great Video thanks! Does anyone know if its possible to generate the pages randomly? for example 40 different images without 40 prompts?
Thanks for having knowledge 💯
I'm from Pakistan 💙
I like the part where people overlooked the fact that using ai image creator software including bing ai image generator, you can't actually use these images to sell in your creations...
