Abstract Portrait Technique... Black, White and Gold!

- Hey everyone!
It's been 3 weeks since my last video. I was quite ill for over two weeks with a nasty virus which attacked my lungs. However, I am back to normal (whatever that is) and I'm really pleased with this abstract portrait.
I decided to do a black, white and gold theme because up here in the northeast it's relatively colorless outside. I like the idea of black and white with a splash of color in the mix so that's what I decided to do.
I'm using Golden Open Acrylics for this entire painting with the exception of one color... Iridescent bronze (looks like gold) by Golden.
I hope you enjoy the video!!! If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments!
Oh my goodness!!! This is stunning on so many different levels. The painting process was art unto itself to watch. The music you chose to go along with it was magical. Everything was. The world would be a boring place without Lydia Broderick!!
Your approach to creating is SUPER BADASS COOL!!! It's like watching an image appear on film as you develop it in a dark room, so cool, you TOTALLY ROCK!!! ROCK ON & GOD BLESS!!!
Oh my goodness, this was absolutely magical to watch! The painting, I honestly don’t have words, it’s just mind blowing. Lydia, I really hope you know how incredible you are?
The music you chose to go with this piece is simply beautiful. I felt like I was watching a scene from Edward Scissor hands, your production was THAT good Lydia.
Thank you for this amazing experience and thank you for your art. 🫶🏻🙏🏻✨

Oh wow! Lydia, you have done it again! To watch you paint is to watch MAGIC happen! I don’t even know what to say. In the blink on an eye I see a plain black canvas turn into a masterpiece. I ABSOLUTELY love this painting done in grays. I think now I want to run and buy a black canvas!
Thank you so much!!! Black canvases have become a favorite for me!❤

Such a cool and classy color combo! That gold is just the right touch in this piece. Super design. The preliminary work is often so tedious so it's nice to just dive in sometimes 👍👍Glad you are well again.
Beautiful painting ❤ love the choice of music too.
Hey there!! I love how the high contrast gray scale gives everything so much depth... Well done again Corvid lady!! lol Joking of course but you do the best crows and ravens etc so I mean that in the nicest, most wonderful of ways...

Just gorgeous!
Have we gotten snow yet? LOLOLOLOL!!! We got freezing rain on December 1st, immediately followed by 4" of snow, and then had snow every day for about 5 days after that. Until this Saturday night, when we had rain, we had an entire week of total winter wonderland! The trees were so laden with snow, and getting heavier every day, that some had bent right over to the ground. South of me some of the trees were breaking off, some limbs off, though not so much up my way. It was absolutely spectacular and everybody's Facebook pages were full of stunning photos. Everytime I had to go out I was just in awe of the beauty, and the hush all around. We got a bit more snow up here (I'm on the windward side of "mountain") last night/this morning, so it doesn't look quite as bleak as it looked yesterday. I don't think I've ever had an entire week of such beautiful winter landscapes before. Hope you get some soon, too! I imagine out on the Cape you don't get as much. And it sure changes the light for painting!
Wow!!! Sounds beautiful! We actually did get some snow last week. Not much, but enough to make everything magical for a few days. We usually get more snow after the New Year. It can be hit or miss though. We either get buried or it rains. It's that whole "sticking out into the ocean" thing. 😂
@@lydiabroderick867 So glad to hear that you had some magical days too! I'm guessing your weather is similar to Newfoundland's. They get a lot of wind off the Atlantic on the east coast, so everyone wears what we call "toques" (two-ks - rhymes with spooks). I spent Christmas and New Year visiting a friend there many years ago. Have a fabulous Christmas, and maybe after New Year's you can have some nice snow without being buried! Ciao bella!
Stunning. You should do more greyscale paintings.
Beautiful, love the imagery. I have always been fascinated by crows and magpies ever since I (a 6 year old) first met Aunty Rina, a neighbouring farmer that had 2 x tame crows, 1 black and 1 with the white chest.
When she drove to the corn fields in her (bakkie) truck, the crows would fly above the truck and her greyhounds would be running next to and behind the truck. Our local labourers must have thought she was part witch. Thanks for triggering the memory❤ I hope you feel better soon 🌹
You paint a story with words so well!!! I could see it all just reading your memory... Thank you for sharing Catherine❤ I am so glad you are in the corvid fan club with me!🤗
AB Creative gave you a shoutout on her latest video 🙌🏻

Amazing! Bravo🙌🏻
Hello LYDIA, you are back!!!! I am so glad you are feeling better. 🍜I am sitting here in awe at how you produced this in a week. Would have taken me months. I do envy you how you just pull a rabbit out of your hat and produce work like this. You know what I am going to say. I love the classic white and black and gold combo. It almost has a goddess/oriental feel to it. (the symbols to the left side). You are amazing and are producing amazing work. Good job. ❤
Thank you Nikki!!! I am loving the black and white with the gold. It is pretty classic.❤❤❤😉
Amazing! ❤❤❤
Sorry to hear you caught something again. I am happy you are back at your passion and amazing all of us with your fantastic art.
You’re just amazing ❤
Wow! Beautiful painting… Watching her emerge, with her avian friends was just amazing. Bravo, Lydia❤
stunning
WOAW🤩👏😘
Awesome work !
Amazing ❤
Nicely done ❤
Lady, you have some serious talent! Love this..
Oooo I love bird lady! She looks like Sophia Loren, or maybe a very young Raquel Welch 🖤🩶🤍💛🤍🩶🖤
from what i can tell on the video, your use of acrylic has improved every time you have used it. I think you had so much time in oil that you naturally seemed to be more comfortable with it, but you have got acrylic down pat (do you say that in the US or is it a Bri expression?) anyway, just lovely.
Beutifly done!🥰
❤❤❤
You're a genius 😮 Love your amazing paintings 🥰
Do you run online classes?
Thank you! I just started a Patreon for long form tutorials. But I don't have a class format as of yet.
Nicely rendered; wound up not Liza at all. In my pieces it’s uncomfortable not knowing full layout; you created for her, a surrounding….dreamscape. Well done……freelancer 🧑🏻🎨
Hi! Big fan here! Love your work! I am also a self-taught artist, and I am having trouble with faces. Have any tips?
Hi and thank you! If you use a reference photo, try to find faces that have good light and shadow. I try to break faces down into shapes instead of features. Sometimes flipping it upside down will help. I tend to use straighter lines when sketching faces. Curved lines can make a sketch look more cartoonish. It can be hard at first to train your brain to see a face as being a puzzle of shapes and colors, but that's what helped me draw them more accurately. I hope that makes sense and helps.🤗
@lydiabroderick867 Great advice! Thanks!
Are you going to colorglaze 8t?
I am leaving it as it is this time. I like the feel of it in grayscale and gold.😊
Do you use a source for the faces of your ladies and birds
