Me and my daughter played this one and Desdemona would always disappear fighting monsters way on the other side of the map. So now, we have an inside joke saying, "where's Desdemona?!" That game was so fun.
Dragon quest is a consistently brilliant franchise. The main series has pretty much no bad games and the spin offs are just as good, from dragon quest monsters to builders, heroes, treasures and even rocket slime. You just can't get wrong with a dragon quest game.
I only expérienced Dragon Quest XI, Heroes 1 and Treasures ( i dont remember well Monsters 1 since i was a child but i remember finding it difficult at the time 😊 ). So far, XI combat system is really good , i did enjoyed Heroes 1 at the begining of the Year and just bought 2. @@Pablo-ig7tx Treasures is hit and miss i can see some people not liking it that much but I'm a simple dude, i see numbers going up and I'm happy. Waiting for the same games, although it feels like the remake was announced ages ago and we didn't saw anything since then. There is also a new DQ monsters on the horizon which takes place in the world of DQ 4. DQ 5 is amongst the fanbases favorites, maybe even the most beloved one outright so I'm willing to bet you will see a remake sooner or later, maybe they are going full 3d for that one. The Dragon Quest Heroes games were awesome! Btw for anyone who got PSN Premium they got DQ Heroes 1+2 included for free as part of the plan I found out when I was browsing around one day on PSN. It's awesome playing a game like DQ Heroes that has many of the DQ heroes and characters.
Thank you for making this video. I played DQH 2 when it first came out and then recently replayed it this october. This game is such a banger its insane how good of a fusion this game manages to be with the musou and dq formulas
Played it and absolutely loved it! The fact that this entry imported jobs from the numbered entries makes it even more special. The game itself has a good amount of tweaking with accessories being the main means to customize your character aside from the aforementioned jobs.
I remember playing DQ heroes 1, and after getting everything in the game and the platinum trophy, I waited what felt like forever to get the sequal, and enjoyed every minute of DQ Heroes 2.
I feel like the best crossover Musou games are the ones that really lean into what makes the franchise they're adapting special. Also, I actually picked this up for dirt cheap a few years ago, I really need to play it sometime soon
Focusing on what makes a franchise special ... absolutely. Really wish Capcom was able to do that with Breath of Fire. It's like they had completely lost touch with that franchise until it malnourished and died.
I loved this game and the first one. Such fun games to play. Dragon Quest being my favourite series certainly helps out with that haha. Great video and loving that Wagon Wheels March at the end. ❤️
This particular game style hasn't normally gotten my interest, however I saw a livestream a while back with this game and it looked like it was a lot of fun. I do have some concern that SE will go more this route with mainline Dragon Quest games and that is not what I want. The side series nature of this kind of game is perfect, I like this as a standalone alternative to the main games. Thanks for the motivation to go pick this up David, great video!
The primary thing with DQ is tradition. Some people hate it for that but if they abandon the core gameplay loop, many fans will be furious. I personally have no interest in a dragon quest mainline title that isn’t turn based. With 12, they’ve said it is going to be more adult. That tells me it won’t be an action rpg but a more complex, difficult turn based title with more mature themes. Any rumors you hear are merely rumors, nothing more. I’ll believe only what is directly said by those working on, producing, and distributing the title.
I remember playing this for the first time a couple years ago! As my 4th dragon quest game, i didn't get many references, but i had a blast playing it! And if you're lucky enough to find people playing online, even the online quests are fun! The only times i ever disliked it were when i was looking for specific equipments and materials, and grinding exp, but that's to be expected.
David is right on as usual. I played this without playing the first one and sunk over 100 hours into it. I just regret not finishing it, the last RPG of any kind I finished was DQXI. Tactics Ogre Reborn is my current play and I will likely beat the game but won't finish all routes/recruits/etc for a while. Triangle Strategy was amazing but only have 1 of the 4 endings
Persona 5 strikers hyrule warriors and the sequel age of calamity and the two fire emblem warriors games u should check those out u might like them as well
Great video! Love this game! Anyone who has the extra PlayStation Plus tier, this and the first one (if you want to play it) are free to play with the service.
I downloaded it for ‘free’ in the PSN catalog after watching this video and holy crap dude. This game is phenomenal. I LOOOOVE mindless musou games and their fancier crossovers like P5 Strikers. And I also LOOOOOVE Dragon Quest. So this is the game I knew nothing about but always wanted. The attention to detail is S tier and the combat is so much fun. I hope they decide to make a DQH3 and include my best bro Sylvando. I can’t believe this game just slipped under the radar. But since it is a musou derived game, I can understand why. Thanks for the recommendation and keep up the excellent videos!
I’ll look into Monsters, Heroes and Builders at some point. Currently enjoying DQ8 on the 3DS. Will play 11 on the Switch after I beat FFXII: TZA. So many games, so little room on its hard drive.
I didn’t know shit about dragon quest when i bought this game, but as a long time warriors/koei fan, it’s one of the best they’ve put out. The difficulty of this game is something I wish i’d see more in their other games.
I DQ Hero’s 1 and loved it, I was big into the mushu style games at the time. And then I heard DQ Hero’s 2 was coming out, but I let it slip through the cracks of my game playing. I had honestly forgotten about it before this video. Buy the game is back on radar and to be played….just need to find some time, it has been an amazing year for JRPGs
DQH1 was... meh. there's some fun to be had, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The sequel? AMAZING! Literally everything that was wrong in the first game was fixed. You can move around much faster! Job system! Exploration worth a damn! Item creation that doesn't give you random stats! One of the most kickass magic knight implementations I've seen in an action rpg with Cesar! Oh, and I love that rendition of the DQ1 world map music they throw at you late in the game! I was hoping we'd get an announcement for a third entry during that anniversary celebration last year, but no such luck, I guess. And could you imagine if they added Chrono Trigger into the mix? It's not like the character designs would clash or anything, seeing as they had the same designer. Oh well. One can dream...
In the UK we didn't get the main series until 8. The first main game I played was 4, on the DS. But Monsters Joker was the first DQ I had. Loved the series since. I prefer it to Final Fantasy now.
My dad thought it was an anime when I was playing this when it came out he also thought resident evil 6 was a cg movie lol he was so mad when he found out I was playing a game and had to sit there and watch me play to go through all the cutscenes 😆😆😆
Personally I enjoyed Heroes 1 more than 2, due to it being concentrated on the musou/tower defense part, which I think it did really really well. Heroes 2 diluted the formula and traveling the open world was not as satisfying as it needed to be and the combat system didn't feel like it fit the more spread out and sparse enemy-groups in it. Sadly never got far into 2 because of that which is too bad since I enjoyed the first one so much. I also liked the cast of 1 more. 2 felt a bit more like they scraped together the characters they had left, which some returning members from 1 too. Having Torneko was nice though.
Though I never got around to beating it, this game was a fun romp. Ideally, I'd like to play a Dragon Quest game that played either like some of the latest Ys games or like the remake of Secret of Mana 2.
Ive been waiting forever for this game to go on sale on steam I may cave eventually but there hasn't been enough buzz for me to pay full price for it and there's also no shortage of Musou games in general
I've always wanted to play these Heroes games, but to my knowledge, they never localized them for the Switch. Is it worth buying the Japan release? Thank you for the video!
Thanx for pointing this one out. It looks like it’s included with my PS+ Extra sub, so I’ll definitely check it out. I haven’t played many DQ games, mor of an early FF games guy. Thanx
I own the first one but never played it much, I bought it cause evil Square Enix literally said the west would never get 7 and 8 3D unless Heroes 1 sold well 😭

Hi David! I've always wonder what DQHs games were like. One of my favorite rpg franchises is DQ, especially DQ8. Anyway, I used to love playing Dynasty Warriors back in the day (not so much now though), but maybe I'd like this one?
Hey Dave, sorry, this isn't about this video. But I thought I'd update you on a passed LP you did, final fantasy 4 ultimate romhack, you probably already know but the game is so far updated now, it's a huge success it's even got retroarch atchememts now.
Great vid, I enjoyed watching it. I actually liked 1 better. I personally felt the open world in 2 stretched itself too thin. I found the combat mechanics in these game are really basic, so to me, the satisfaction came from killing large mobs by the thousands, which was better in the first game. In the second game, I kill a mob then have to hoof it to find another one or wait for respawn, where in 1, they just come to me in droves. That's just me though, I like DW/Musou games, which most likely explains it lol

Final Fantasy should take note of that. The mainline games should stay turned-based. While other spinoffs can be whatever they want.
This is such a fun a game. The colors are so vibrant and the characters are beautifully designed.
