Honestly, the Dreamcast deserved better. It wasn't the best console at the time, but it was an improvement over the saturn, and it really was a console ahead of its time
@gtx-808 Speak for yourself. I got my Dreamcast for Xmas 1999 with Marvel vs Capcom, NBA2k and a VMU, so I did my part to keep Sega alive. When did you get a DC?
@@supersanic1254 Stop it. Sega definitely drop a few hundred meters after the Dreamcast. They just didn’t implode, lol. I blame Saturn and 32x. After those no one trusted the Dreamcast as a platform. Shame because it was a fantastic console.I liked it more than PS2, but nothing could stop Sony at that point. The hype for PS2 was just too great.
Sega isn't even dead by any means. The console market was never their main business to begin with. They have always been an arcade developer and publisher first and foremost, and they continue to be the most popular arcade brand.
A large part of it was the divide in marketing strategies from how the U.S. division of Sega was able to make the Genesis stand out with its EXTREME CRAZINESS and how the Japanese branch insisted thst they sell the Dreamcast with thier own marketing strategies. The PS2 ultimately helped kill it, but the internal divide hindered its sales
What really killed moviepass for me was when they started forcing people to provide a driver's license to use the service you already paid for. Ended up having to fight with them to get my money back for the year I already paid for.
Sega - I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt there were other factors that contributed to Sega’s downfall. The CD, 32X and Saturn had their part to play.
I’d say you got one wrong and that’s the Dreamcast. As a game collector and video game historian I can tell you it was the Sega Saturn that really spelled the end for Sega, not the Dreamcast.
The dreamcast was awesome. I remember going to a friends house and playing it. He had every game burned. It wasnt long after that the system went belly up. You can't develop games for free.
The Dreamcast didn’t kill sega. The 32x, Sega cd and Saturn being abandoned so quickly just for the next thing ruined their credibility. Pontiacs issue was continued irrelevance by making mediocre cars. The Delorian collapsed when the Owner/Creator was caught smuggling drugs to help pay his bills.
Atari's downfall should have been the 5200/7800 units While the ET game did do major damage it also showed how bad some game execs were about timelines for game creation
Actually it's not just Atari Inc., but also the rest of gaming company that really killed the entire gaming competition, which led to the Video Game Crash of 1980s.
SEGA's downfall can't be pinned to one single product. It was multiple failed projects and executive decisions that did the job. The Dreamcast just had the unfortunate title of being their final console. It sold well and was well-received in the short time it was on the market, but SEGA was already in too deep at that point. If SEGA didn't fuck around so much for years prior, it would've lasted the whole generation.
32x was the product that killed SEGA. It hindered the Saturn’s sales and put them in a terrible position in the market. That failure basically meant the Dreamcast needed to be a colossal success with no setbacks or it would be abandoned.
Had a Dreamcast for about a week . I got tired of not really being able to do anything without it wanting me to connect to the internet and I didn’t have internet
Just thanks of their ultra aggressive and spiteful marketing in USA which never had been allowed today. Many still believes in the "blast-processing" yet today.
@@supersanic1254In the console market, Sega very much did. A long while ago. To think otherwise is just not in touch with reality. They also sold off their arcade business during covid. They're existent, but only in our memories.
The Aztec wasn’t terrible. Ugly? Yes. Cheap? No. But to those who had them, most loved camping with them. I would argue Pontiac’s last line up caused GM to give them the boot.
Terrible video, literally the first entry is wrong. As everyone pointed out, dreamcast didnt kill sega, it was saturn and the 32x, they were already on a downward spiral. Matchmojo videos are wrong 1/2 the time so i stopped watching years ago, come back and the first video from a spinoff is just as stupid and bad. Do better guys.
Sega CD an Sega 32X derailed Sega. Those add-ons should've never happened. They should've just released the Sega Saturn an It would've seen longevity. They needed more game publisher's as well. The Dreamcast was just bad timing. I should've came out at least 2000. Instead they rushed it due to Saturn not being popular due to the 32X an Sega CD being basically the same thing. An they should've played DVDs
Neither derailed Sega. They are still doing what Sega has always done best -- make great arcade titles. The console market was always just a side business for Sega, as their main goal in the console market was to create a console that could recreate the arcade experience at home, and they achieved both those goals with Dreamcast, and Saturn to a lesser degree. What I believe hurt Sega more in the long run was exiting the pinball business in 1999. With the resurgence of pinball, and Stern Pinball (formerly Data East, then Sega Pinball) making excellent machines, Sega would have a commanding share of the pinball market.
@supersanic1254 There are no arcades like there were in the late 80s an 90s. That was an era that has come an passed. Maybe arcades are a thing in Japan. But all arcades in malls have mainly shuttered. Chuckie Cheese is barely holding on. True fans wanted them to be a console competitor with the likes of Nintendo. Nintendo is still going. Sony is still going. Atari isn't big anymore. Xbox is ok. Panasonice 3D0 never had a chance. Sega should just give fans what they want at this point. A Saturn Mini an Dreamcast Mini. I could careless about a New Sega console
Oh and he said for DeLorean no car parts like towing??? Wtf??? The brakes listed are car parts but towing?? Moving past what was meant who the hell wanted to tow with a delorean?? That’s more unbelievable then a delorean Time Machine!
32x killed Sega. They couldn't recover that fumble because of PS1 . Dreamcast was an upswing and predates the PS2 by a year so ,no, PS2 didn't kill Dreamcast. They stopped manufacturing it pretty soon after PS2 releases because they just couldn't recover enough from the damage of 32x. PS2 had little if anything to do with it.
dreamcast didnt end the company it was back during the genesis with NA & JP sides competing with each other then they dropped the saturn and cost the 3rd partys alot of money so the dreamcast was DOA.
id see the ouya failing, unless it came rooted and promased free IAP via freedom lol (obviusly illegal to do that) but even still fact that it failed was probbaly becuase it ran android games which can run on phone or even emulator tablet eta, if they had made alot of games FOR it like the ps vita it COULD MABY of worked.
why is the dreamcast so hated tho? the dreamcast had lots unique good games on it but guess becuase the ps1 was better and came like a year before or later. also think as much as for piracy, the signing code being foudn think in year 1 diddent help.
I'm not even going to watch this video because just the thumbnail is all that's needed to invalidate it. I'm just here to tell the uploader that he is a fool. Saturn killed Sega. Dreamcast was a rebound for Sega, it was just too little too late when it arrived. Saturn's horrible reputation combined with the enormous hype centered around PS2 is why Dreamcast failed.
Nope. The Dreamcast wasn't the thing that sunk Sega. Really, it was the combination of the Sega CD, 32X, and ultimately the Saturn. Did you guys forget how disastrous the timing was for the Saturn's release? It was worse than the Dreamcast because of the way the Saturn was designed! Man, you guys are idiots, let me tell you!

@gtx-808 Speak for yourself. I got my Dreamcast for Xmas 1999 with Marvel vs Capcom, NBA2k and a VMU, so I did my part to keep Sega alive. When did you get a DC?
The PS2 killed Sega’s console by being an affordable dvd player.
The Dreamcast almost saved Sega, it was every other decision before it that sank the company.
They never sank....they are still quite alive and well, especially in the arcade market where they continue to make great titles.

I didnt know WatchMojo changed their name to GetMojo.
They didn't, it's a second channel.
What is this channel? "WatchMojo at home"?
I think so. 🤔

This has to be a troll comment.
None of the games required internet except Phantasy Star. I never connected my Dreamcast even once to the internet.
The dreamcast really offed itself by having no piracy protection for burned games.
Dreamcast COULD’VE saved Sega, all Sega had to do was NOT release the Sega 32X & Sega CD or the Saturn

Dreamcast had the best controller of any console. Essentially if you had the screen. It was clutch when you played NFL 2K!
The dreamcast was ahead of its time.

The dreamcast was one of the best systems ever imo.

Sega hates Dreamcast so much they canceled the Dreamcast mini version.
Kanoa wasn't just a failure, it was a scam. After they canceled the product, they ran off with the money. I know because some of that money was mine.
Sucks cuz the dreamcast was actually pretty raw
Awful controller
