    You’re recommendations are always so great! Like, probably at least a third of the books I read are ones you talk about. Red Sister, Children of Time (a book I got to share with my dad!), the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, Scythe, Blake Crouch in general, and more. Just wanted to say thanks for all you do on booktube 😊

    What are some adult books you would recommend to YA readers?

    • @rebeccam4746
      @rebeccam4746 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Phantom of the Opera, Pride and Prejudice, The Lord of the Rings, Asimov's Robot Detective series, Digger by Ursula Vernon, Agnes Grey, The Martian Chronicles, The Space Trilogy, Till We Have Faces, and Disc World books just to name a few.

      I'm very bad at distinguishing what's adult and what's YA. But I recommend Robert Jackson Bennett's Divine Cities Trilogy, very fast passed, great world-building, very important topics that are discussed within the book. I'm nearly finished with Foundryside, too. To me, it seems more YA than Divine Cities but it's still listed as adult on goodreads.

      Good picks! Definitely Red Sister and Vicious :) I'd also recommend A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers for scifi lovers, The Witches of New York by Ami Mackay for a historic fantasy, The Illumination of Ursula Flight by Anna-Marie Crowhurst for a good historical fiction title, The Improbability of Love by Hannah Marie Rothschild for a fun art caper, and finally both Mr. Penumbria's 24 hour book store, and Sourdough, by Robin Sloan for fun short books. Sourdough is especially weird, it follows a young female tech engineer in San Francisco and her obsession with Sourdough bread that dives into the somewhat weird and borderline fantastical! It's a very short audiobook and I think you'd like it!

      I feel like new adult is generally a good way to go in general, it's a good introduction into the adult genre, especially thrillers. Some of my favourites are Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl, Sadie by Courtney Summers and I'd even add Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand.

      Ready Player One by Earnest Cline.

    Definitely agree with a lot of these. I'd also add for fantasy readers the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett, and for those who prefer YA contemporary, The Sisters Chase by Sarah Healy and anything by J. Courtney Sullivan.

    Yeaaaah I found the Priory of the Orange Tree to be incredibly underwhelming. It had a lot of potential, but I think the best aspects were under utilized. I think the last quarter of the book really lessens the gravity of everything that happened before it.

  • @peachykeenchy8194
    @peachykeenchy8194 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    not even gonna lie, i loved the ending of Priory because i’m NOT a big action reader. I was living for the characters and the plot so i was happy when the war was summed up quickly 😂

    @jonluc3194 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was such a great video, because I’ve been looking to expand my reading tastes into more adult books. I really appreciated the sci-fi recommendations :)

  • @matt00794
    @matt00794 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dan Browns books, are really fast easy reads, he's not the best writer but his writing is super easy to read/understand so you can read the books really fast.
    I would also say that zadie smith is a great author, she has a rather large vocabulary at times, but her books are shorter than a lot of other hardish to read authors, so i would say her books are worth the read.
    lastly I would try and figure out why you haven't tried much adult books, and try to find a book that doesn't have that. I read only ya for a while and what made me switch was just pushing through longer books that I knew were faster paced and know a lot of the books I read are larger and it doesn't intimidate me as much as it used to.

    Also, so many of these books are already on my neverending TBR because you suggested them. 🤣

  • @ammalyrical5646
    @ammalyrical5646 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'd recommend The Binding by Bridget Collins for this topic. It reads almost like a contemporary. And even though I generally wouldn't enjoy the romance parts, but this was so original and creative. You can bind memories into books and it definitely made me think. The characters are in their 20s I think. I think a lot of people would vibe with it.
    Hmm, I'm in doubt about Nevernight. Maybe don't recommend something with such a specific writing style?
    I read mostly adult (95-99%) and I couldn't get past page 30 because of the writing.

    • @ammalyrical5646
      @ammalyrical5646 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      although I've since grown into liking adult romance more. Still don't read it often, but a good one is a nice palate cleanser after heavy books

    Hi. Just wanted to say that anything V.E Schwab is Adult and anything using her full name Victoria Schwab is middle grade or Ya. I believe that I read it in an interview somewhere? I don’t quite rennet. So sorry. I’ve read her middle grade City of Ghost and I enjoyed it. Read it with my son.

    If you like YA fantasy, I would also suggest Foundryside. It’s a new fantasy series, the 2nd book will be out soon enough. It reads easily and kinda like a YA minus the cheesy romance.

    Hey Emily! What about you recommending YA books to adult readers? :) I struggle with YA but I still can't let it go completely. I really enjoyed Me and Earl and the dying girl, It's kind of a funny story and The fault in our stars, but I mainly read literary fiction now. I'm not a fan of fantasy or romance, but I really like distopian and scifi :)

    Yes I loved the Villains duology it gives a college reader vibe, and recently read Evelyn Hugo. The rest are literally on my tbr I am slackin! I tend to read more adult anyway, I wonder what the opposite of this would be, like what YA do you think someone who mostly reads adult should pick up?

  • @clarkkentnaruto4322

    Hey there Emily. How are you doing? It's funny that the first book that you mentioned, is a series where I have yet to listen to the last book in that series. However, now I want to listen to that book the most. All of the books that you have listed are all on my TBR pile on my cell phone. I am currently listening to the Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordon.
