Song of Achilles and What the Wind Knows, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo were the only books I gave 5 stars! Just Circe in the mail yesterday! So excited

If Emily says it'a a good book, I'm reading it. For real, no one has ever had the same taste in books as me and then you just found you on yt out of nowhere and girllll how much I appreciate it
Same! I can’t believe it’s taken me 18 years to finally read them. I would’ve enjoyed the series a lot better if Order of the Phoenix hadn’t put me into a huge reading slump
You should make a video on books that are set in a school or have a school setting in them. Since you love them so much (and I need more recommendations because I love them too lol)
@@BookswithEmilyFox If you need some recommendations (that might be a bit out of your comfort zone) definitely check out Keeper of the Lost Cities. It's middle grade fantasy and it's great!
Oh, you look like Morticia Addams while discussing favorites- even if I didn't watch the whole thing I could have guessed your favorites involve blood, death and killer nuns. :P Starsight and Dragon Republic were excellent sequels, so good. And, ok, I'll have to try Spin- your pushing agenda is working.
I'd really like to see a vid of you showing us your favorite books of your favorite tropes! (ex. Your fav books of First contact of aliens, your fav books of reliving your life over and over, etc)
I really loved Red Sister and Grey Sister and I haven't read the last one yet because I'm going to be so sad when it's all over :( I was also worried that it wouldn't live up to the other ones, guess now I can lower my expectations and just enjoy it! And then of course start his new series! Can't wait. I've heard so many great things about Educated, I started the audiobook and didn't love it so I wanted to try the physical book and forgot about it lol.
Reading the thumbnail ... bet she will mention A little life ... 😉 Middle of the video: ha! There it is! ❤ End of Video !!!!!!! Omg u added Song of Achilles! I LOVE IT ❤❤ It broke my heart but I love it
Great list, plan on checking all of these out next year and thanks for dropping that uk cover of Skyward, answered my question before I asked it. In case I don't see ya, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I think Darkdawn was the strongest of the Nevernight books 😁 it’s one of my favorite books of all time. I love how different and intense and spiritual it was if that makes sense. I love the series as a whole so much!!
With the quarantine, I have plans to read through the books mentioned in this video :) almost done with skyward (listening to the audiobook version) and I'm loving it
Thanks for a great "great books" video Emily. I want to read all of them now...LOL. Thanks for all your hard work throughout the year, and all the best of the season to you.
My best books I read this year gotta be nevernight trilogy. Six of Crows was also very enjoyable in a sense that you get sooo invested in the characters.
Just started to read Nevernight after watching this video and I really like it so far. And I love those little notes at the bottom of the page, it's quite unique in a fantasy book.
thanks so much! been addicted to your vids :) wrote them all down, the same tastes (and you're also Canadian high five!) so I'm excited! (just got back into reading again not long ago)
Okay okay okay - I LOVE the UK (I’m in the UK) editions of Brandon Sanderson’s books. But Skyward? I’m biased because I love the artist that does the US covers. Charlie Bowater is fantastic and I’m so glad she’s getting more recognition through book covers.
Have you read the scifi classic A Canticle For Leibowitz? You might like it. Just requested the Sparrow from the library, looking forward to that audiobook since they didn't have a physical copy.
Echoing a couple of other people already, The Three-Body Problem was a fantastic sci-fi book - especially if you like first contact stories! It was one of my best reads of the year, so I'd highly recommend it. I've had The Sparrow on my shelves for a while - picked it up from a thrift shop on a whim without having heard of it, but your love for it definitely makes me want to read it! :-) (Also, Jesuit = JE-zoo-it in English - or type it into Forvo.com to hear it spoken - super useful site. I also sometimes have a hard time remembering the English pronunciation when the French way is more obvious to me!) Thanks again for yet another awesome video!

Since reading the entire Harry Potter series last year it has become INCREDIBLY difficult for me to get into ANYTHING! It’s actually so sad! Like, where do I go from here?!
Hey Emily love your stuff. Could you also make a video about kindle and what do you think about it? Also could you read these books and review them (Bartimaeus Sequence, American gods)
I just finished reading Children of Time and OMG I need me some more giant spiders in my life! It was amazing, the ending took me completely by surprise and just wow! I'm still shook! I've had twenty 5 stars books this year, which is Insane but I'm so thankful! There's the Mistborn & Scythe trilogy, Dark Matter, Saints and Misfits, A Place for Us, Hunted by Darcy Coates, The Call by Peadar Ó Guilín and a few more!
Mary Doria Russell. Because it switches between timelines I did better with the audiobook. A lot happens right at the end so that is why I wonder if I would enjoy the second book.
I’m reading Children of God right now - I’m only 100 pages in, but I’m really enjoying it. I’ve been laughing a lot more than I expected. She does such a wonderful job of blending light and darkness. I’m excited to finish it!
I read skyward cause I saw u talking about it all the time and gosh i am sooo glad I read it cause it's such an amazing book and i need to read 2nd one asap
I remember when my girlfriend was talking about Skyward and I couldn't understand why she's so hyped about it, but then I got my hands on this book and now I understand. I didn't know there'll be something that's going to beat Vicious but oh boy, this series has become one of my favorites. And I can't wait to read the 3rd one which I hope will be released not in 100 years because #teamDoomslug
Have you read about "Eon" and "Eona" from Alison Goodman? I don't hear from those books on Booktube and yet, I loved them and recommend them if you like Fantasy and Dragon stories.
The best novels I read this year were: House of Suns by Alastair Reynolds (OMG, if you like SF, you've got to read this one!!), Skyward AND Starsight by Brandon Sanderson, Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (a classic but SO much fun), Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs and (don't tell anyone) Moby-Dick, which I listened to as an audiobook read by a fantastic Shakespearean actor who made everything twice as funny and epic. I didn't mind the geeky whale lore.
Yes yes yes! I just got "Spin" , "A little life" and "Children of Ruin" from Amazon and I'm super exited to start those in January!! ... Meanwhile I need to finish my first book of SK which is "The shinning" (I'm in 67%) and I gotta say that Im very surprised, cause I thought that it will be more mistery than horror given the many reviews that I've seen of him and his books, still I think that this cooooould be consider as Horror (I think that someone who tend to avoid horror movies maybe could have nightmares) eventhough I have been able to sleep as a baby.... Btw 3 of the best books that I've read this year are: "Children of time," The frozen heart" (It's a spanish book of the Spanish War cause I love historical novels and suffering is also one of my jams) and "The Nightingale" :)
omg I've read most of these books this year!! I LOVED Vengeful and Skyward, Recursion is the first book I like by this author I gave it 4 stars ( I hated Dark Matter and Pines) , I really wanted to like Spin I loved the first part of the book but I just couldn't finish it, I also DNF A Little Life 💔💔 so excited to read The Dragon Republic since I loved the 1st book😍 Gonna check the others soon!
I feel like you should read the maresi trilogy it’s dark and has the handmaids tale vibes. It is written by a finswede author but it has been translated to english!! It would be amazing to know how you feel about it!
I just finished the ancestor trilogy and I also felt like they were too short and I needed more from that world. Imagine a Brandon Sanderson length book!
I really want to read 'a little life' still, before the end of the year! I just fear, a little that it'll ruin my (already non existent) christmas mood 🙈 I love all these end of the year videos! Just a side note: it's not all that helpful to say 'trigger warning for everything' 😅 not blaming you, obviously, a lot of ppl do it, but i think it'd be far more helpful if you either went into detail with the trigger warnings (maybe in the description) or just pointed ppl towards looking into the specific trigger warnings if they are likely to be effected, that way there are no spoilers, but it's more specific and helpful (again, maybe you could put links to a list of triggers in the description or a pinned commen. Tiggers can be really specific and i think it's unhelpful and a little missleading to put it this way, even though i can totally see why you do it. Just a thought^^
I said everything because the list would include most if not every single one I can think of... hence the "everything" :s But sure I can definitely mention it's worth looking up if needed!
@@BookswithEmilyFox I definitely do get the intention behind it, sorry if that didn't come across 😅 i just think even for books like "a little life" or "dragon republic" who both have 'triggers for everything' they'd be triggering for very different groups of people, if that makes sense? And it's like that with a lot of books that are describe this way. I'm personally someone with very specific triggers so that's why i think it's always important to make these lists more available ☺️ thanks for hearing me out!
Read dragon republic and almost done reading a little life. A little life's trigger warnings: sexual abuse, torture, self-harm, pedophilia, and suicide. Dragon republic's tw: substance abuse self harm, and suicide.
Merci pour tes avis, grâce à toi a little life a été une de mes meilleures lectures de l’année! Je me jette sur red sister maintenant. En espérant que nevernight soit traduit en français cette année
Emily, if you like thriller sci fi, then you NEED to read Robopocalypse by Daniel H Wilson. I read it about four years ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. It's the book that got me into sci fi! HIGHLY recommend!!!!
You need to read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. I’ve read like 10 of her books and O&C is my favorite. Soo good! Sooo glad you finally read The Sparrow! I’m so happy you loved it! Dune tho boo 😡🥺
elines acevedo are you sure? I don’t think Emily has read Oryx & Crake yet. Funny how people can be so different, I can’t see anything not to like about that book! To each their own 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ It’s one of my favs. Did you read the whole trilogy?
@@Jenbebookish i remember her talking about it because I had read it before that. Maybe I didn't get it, or maybe I just couldn't suspend my belief while reading it since I'm a biologist and the story was pretending to be all scientific with the weird cloning and genetic modification stuff. And while generally I would be able to suspend my belief, I feel like especially with Margaret Atwoods stuff, it's meant to feel like it is something that could happen or like something "too close to home". Instead, I felt like it was trying to be edgy and make you think, but the ideas came from some teenager or something so it's actually dumb. Like, im14andthisisdeep. I guess that's why I couldn't enjoy it.
elines acevedo maybe Emily was talking about wanting to read it, or picking up the book in a haul or something because it’s not listed on her Goodreads as read it’s still on her TBR shelf. It’s been so long since I’ve read it that I don’t remember it well enough to comment on ur comment! But I can see how being a biologist could affect ur experience since you have knowledge in that department! The Year of the Flood was really good too I thought
Thank you for loving A Little Life. I just love that book sooooo much bud don't have the heart to re-read it. I almost feel scared when people talk about this book because I fear they might hate it. It's not for everyone but I'm really glad that you love it!
I really don't get why so many people love a little life considering it's 700 pages of someone's miserable life and so much suffering. In other news, I just started reading red sister and I'm really loving it!
Almost done reading A Little Life. It isnt THAT sad. It's kinda really good, tbh. It's sad but it's alsooooooooooo really wonderful. Best read for me this year. But there are a lot of trigger warnings. The 700 pages arent all about suffering.
There are wonderful characters and sure it's sad but there's a lot of beautiful things in there too. Booktube is always raving about amazing characters who go through a lot so A Little Life should fit right in :P
The Sparrow was one of my favorites last year. It destroyed me and kept my mind busy for weeks after I finished it. Did you read the sequel? It’s worth it and is also excellent and thought provoking. Read it!
I really really tried to love a little life as much as you do, but I just couldn‘t connect to it. Of course I got somehow attached to the charakters but overall I didn‘t really enjoy reading this, I got kind of bored I don‘t know. At some point I just wanted to get through it as fast as possible because i didn‘t want to dnf it

I remember when my girlfriend was talking about Skyward and I couldn't understand why she's so hyped about it, but then I got my hands on this book and now I understand. I didn't know there'll be something that's going to beat Vicious but oh boy, this series has become one of my favorites. And I can't wait to read the 3rd one which I hope will be released not in 100 years because #teamDoomslug
i just cant keep my eyes off this lipstick! ♥️👀
Have you read about "Eon" and "Eona" from Alison Goodman? I don't hear from those books on Booktube and yet, I loved them and recommend them if you like Fantasy and Dragon stories.
Love your reviews! You are my favorite.
I LOVED Vengeful and Skyward,
Recursion is the first book I like by this author I gave it 4 stars ( I hated Dark Matter and Pines) , I really wanted to like Spin I loved the first part of the book but I just couldn't finish it, I also DNF A Little Life 💔💔 so excited to read The Dragon Republic since I loved the 1st book😍 Gonna check the others soon!
I feel like you should read the maresi trilogy it’s dark and has the handmaids tale vibes. It is written by a finswede author but it has been translated to english!! It would be amazing to know how you feel about it!
I'm going to read Red Sister next year, since you recommend it so much
Hope you'll enjoy it!
The things we can not say, You me and the sea and The giver of stars
I really need to read A Little Life! great video :)
I just finished the ancestor trilogy and I also felt like they were too short and I needed more from that world. Imagine a Brandon Sanderson length book!
I really want to read 'a little life' still, before the end of the year! I just fear, a little that it'll ruin my (already non existent) christmas mood 🙈
I love all these end of the year videos!
I said everything because the list would include most if not every single one I can think of... hence the "everything" :s
But sure I can definitely mention it's worth looking up if needed!
I still really need to read Skyward & The Poppy War. I'm gonna have to make them a priority next year.
One of my friends read out loud to me the first two chapters of Spin and now I want to read it so I need to find a copy asap
So many people seem to love Recursion! I need to find a copy!
Find the UK edition if you can. It's gorgeous.
And my tbr list is growing and growing and growing🙈 all thanks to you! 😈
Honestly, I added 7 books from this video to it)))
Some of these are definitely going on my 2020 tbr 🤗
You'll have to tell me how it goes :)
You need to get to Hyperion. I finally read it this year. It will blow your mind!
And I'm 200 pages into A Little Life because of you.
I tried it earlier this year as an audiobook but realized quickly it was a mistake.. I'll need to read the physical copy asap tho!
100% agree
You need to read Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. I’ve read like 10 of her books and O&C is my favorite. Soo good!
Sooo glad you finally read The Sparrow! I’m so happy you loved it! Dune tho boo 😡🥺
She did read it. I personally didn't like it, but she did.
elines acevedo are you sure?
You are really pretty , black is your color for sure😊 ok now i'm gonna watch the video
The Last Astronaut by David Wellington is pretty good first contact
I love your makeup look!
So cool that you're French-Canadian. I'm Canadian too!
Thank you 🍁 I get a lot of practice with my makeup channel haha
I had the same two non fiction in my top picks of the year too!
That's probably why so many people call it torture porn lol but I'm definitely with you, I don't want to read 700 pages of sad
Booktube is always raving about amazing characters who go through a lot so A Little Life should fit right in :P
is it possible to always link the books? so I can find it without any efforts
First contact with aliens recommendation: Rosewater by Tade Thompson. I have only read the first book in the trilogy, but highly recommend.
The Sparrow was one of my favorites last year. It destroyed me and kept my mind busy for weeks after I finished it.
Did you read the sequel? It’s worth it and is also excellent and thought provoking. Read it!
Nevernight trilogy vs Red sister trilogy vs Poppy wars first 2 books?
i just found my fav booktuber and that is youuu
I really really tried to love a little life as much as you do, but I just couldn‘t connect to it. Of course I got somehow attached to the charakters but overall I didn‘t really enjoy reading this, I got kind of bored I don‘t know. At some point I just wanted to get through it as fast as possible because i didn‘t want to dnf it
