I just discovered your channel last night and subscribed right away. It seems we have 3 things in common. I am in Rhode Island (so both "southern" NE), I have a Woodland Mills sawmill, and a also have a Ford 1700 tractor. Love it!! I noticed right away that you have 2 things on the tractor I am missing/trouble finding. I haven't been able to find the front weights like you have and I have no canopy cover. If you happen to know a source for parts/accessories you have luck with, might you share? Thanks much!! I think I have larger tires, my 1700 seems to be higher off the ground, but it might be a video illusion too.

Thanks for subscribing 🙏 I bought the tractor used in February of 2018. It had the canopy, which I’m pretty certain is a homemade job. I did make a wooden roof canopy for my Kioti in a recent video. The front weights are around 33-35 lbs apiece. I have 3, but you can put up to 5 on. I got mine separate from the tractor. They were attached to my Supertilt dump trailer to help it go down easier. (Gravity down setup). I went up to NH to get that trailer. Best place to find those weights is eBay, FBMP, or CL. My brother has a 1710 and a 1600 which both have taller and skinnier rear tires than mine. Mine are 13.6-16 which results in a 38” tall tire. His are 11.2-24 which results in a 43.5” tall tire. The wider 13.6’s were really for mowing. They help with floatation and ground disturbance, as well as better stability. But you suffer a bit with traction and implements don’t cover your tracks as well

Great inforamtion, thanks and I enjoyed the footage at the end. We only have one 4wd tractor which is a compact tractor and most of the time we operate it in 2wd. When we are lifting heavy loads with the FEL 4wd mode seems to give more stabilty

I agree. Most 4wd tractors have high ply front tires that are physically bigger than their 2wd counterparts.

I grew up in the 1960's. Both of our tractors were two wheel drive. We never even thought of a 4wd tractor back then. They were the norm. All of our neighbors had two wheel drives as well.

I agree. It’s amazing how everyone thinks 4wd is a requirement now, both tractors and vehicles

Thanks Chad. I’ve owned several Case/Ingersoll GT’s, from Lo pro models…to Hi wheelers…to a Hyloader, and they’re top notch for sure! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏

Great video Case. I agree. Two wheel drive did the work since the early 1900 hundreds. And they are much simpler. But, in today’s world, your wasting money if your tires are spinning. So each have there benefits and usages. I don’t have a four wheel drive tractor. And get along. Would I like to have a four wheel tractor. Yes.

Great perspective Noel. Some days (most days) I long to go back to simpler times with simpler tractors. Take care my friend!

I have a 2 wheel drive Massey Furgeson 1215 sub compact. Most of the time I don't need more traction. It is mostly used to grade driveways and move trailers/equipment around. Two wheel drives are also great for stationary power use like running a chipper or pump. Someday I plan to replace it with a 4 wheel drive. Since it can do most of what I want, it gives me time to wait for a good deal.
