Atlasminx World Record (former)

- This is the atlasminx. The puzzle has an edge length of 140mm, weighs 7.9kg and has 4863 pieces.
The design of the puzzle was inspired by Matt’s yottaminx and Oskar’s 17x17. The biggest change I made to the floating anchor mechanism was to change the direction of the “hooks” each part has. That allowed for the parts to be printed in an orientation that minimized the need for support material in FDM printing. I also added a kind of foot to 25% of the center pieces that prevents them from twisting in place and also helps with sorting. I made the puzzle sitckerless as I did not want to place over 5000 stickers. Also it helped mark progress during the build Instead of just printing in black and only black for months.
I would say the turning quality is better than the 22x22 but a little worse than the yottaminx. The turning is a bit catchy and alignment is an issue. The puzzle is stable though, so far I've not had a signal pop.
Overall this project took a little under 100 hours from start to finish witch was a lot faster than I was planning. Given the relatively short amount of time this took I plan on at least partially printing out a version 2 of this puzzle in the future. I think with only a few small changes the turning could be improved to the point were solving it in a reasonable amount of time would be possible

I did a jigsaw once.
This is pure legit brilliance ...just imagine staring at nothing, thinking of bringing this to life 🤯..congratulations.
As of 2022, the Atlasminx can now be referred to as the Quettaminx thanks to the new SI prefixes introduced in 2022. It is also the dodecahedral equivalent of a 19x19 cube. The Minx of Madness (a 21x21 cube equivalent) can keep its name since no SI prefix exists above quetta- (yet)
Big respect for this man for making this!!
Seeing some man actually races with a actual 3d printer on fast-forward terrifies me because they spend so many hours to print a thing. I cant imagine how much effort he gives for this cube
What on earth 😳 careful its gravity doesn’t mess up the earth’s rotation 🤯 but seriously, congratulations, it is the most beautiful puzzle I’ve ever seen 👏👏👏 oh i also meant to ask, hAvE yOu EvEr SoLvEd iT?
Oh hey look who it is
I was wondering if you were considering updating the name of this puzzle. In the past month or so new naming conventions have been accepted by the scientific community for higher (and lower) order magnitude numbers, so the yotta- prefix is no longer the largest. With the new prefixes the Atlasminx could now be called the Quettaminx if you were to continue standard Minx puzzle naming convention. I find it kind of fascinating that twisty puzzle design and naming convention ran out of names for minx puzzles, meanwhile various feilds of science ran into the same problem prompting these new prefixes, but yet puzzle design has advanced further still as the new prefixes fail to provide a possible new name for your Minx of Madness.
Oh hi ET cubing

Hmm, I'd imagine a large portion of the movement issues come down to inherent inaccuracies of FDM printing (elephant's foot, warping, rough layer lines, etc). Even spending time to manually sand each and every piece (which is absolutely NUTS), you end up with pieces out of tolerance in a puzzle that's super sensitive to said tolerances. I wonder if most of the quality issues could be quashed by making use of a SLA printer instead! The layers are imperceptible to the naked eye and the tolerances are superb, you should totally give it a try on a smaller scale project!
I'm not too familiar with the limitations of SLA printing and its cost, so I can't speak to my idea's feasibility, but if it's possible it should totally be done!
In any case, this is an incredible achievement, you should be extremely proud of the monstrosity you've made here!
After seeing FDM printed pieces, my exact thoughts were SLA would make sense here. 1 kg is around 30-50$ for regular resin. Considering that resin and PLA have around the same density, but SLA have higher space-filling resolution, the project can weight around 9-9.5 kg. So not exactly cheap thing to do, considering decent SLA printers cost upward of 1k$.
@@nikarm22 Most decent sla definitely don’t last I checked.
