Hi everone 👋👋👋
I'm intrested to know some of the prices and what you could expect to pay for a good bison bull or heifer.
When you sold the bison at the fairgrounds, do you sell by the pound? or how is the price decided?
The bison look happy. I think that is their happy dance. I love watching them. I’m so glad they are healthy and live their best life. Congratulations to the entire Baker family.
❤
Thank you!
Thank you!
The bison are looking great! It's wonderful that you're finally getting enough to sell off some breeders.
Hope you and Marissa and Brooks have a very happy and successful New Year. 😊

Hi Dusty and Kevin. Great video. Can't keep them all. Hopefully you got a good price for the heifers. Your bison are magnificent. God bless and love yall ❤❤
Thank you!
The bison 🦬 herd all look happy and running around the pasture! Happy New Year Dusty and family!🎉🎊
Happy new year!
Beautiful animals. God bless you from Michigan ❤️
Dunbar looks more healthy since hes been wormed. He looked a little bony before. Great vid. Showing the highs n lows gives a better perspective of life. Hi from the uk x
Yes, this summer was rough on Dunbar. Hoss and Dunbar had a lot of females to cover and the drought did not make the conditions easier on them either. Thank you!
Congrats on the sale of your two heifers! Wishing CTB much success in 2024! Happy New Year! 🎊🎉👍✨😍
Thank you! Happy New Year!
A lot of work Dusty. Too bad the weather couldn't have been nicer for you.
I’m glad the sale was successful for you and that you made it home safely. So now there will be babies out there carrying on the Big Joe, Kit, Dunbar and Peaches genetics, that’s so cool! May you and your family have a safe, and wonderful Happy New Year!
Thank you! Happy New Year to you and yours!
I believe they were saying kit was mom an big joe was her daddy
It is a business after all good to see you made some profit. You can't continue without that. It is not all fun and games. I was in the FFA too.
You are correct! It has to be a balance to make it all work and be sustainable to continue to raise bison or any livestock!
Out of curiousity, what does a heifer sell for when pregnant?
I love hearing about the workings of your Bison ranch. I know it is difficult but both you and Marissa just seem to take it in stride. I wish you much prosperity in 2024.
Thank you!
Happy New Year Dusty, Marissa and Brooks. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Also, thank you for your work in restoring America's Bison population. They are glorious animals and I've learned so much from you. My friends chuckle since I'm a City girl and am hooked on your videos.
Glad to hear you have enjoyed our journey and learning about these incredible animals! Thank you!
Good evening from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures everyone and your herds
Rain came at an inconvenient time for the sale event, but we all know just how all have been praying for rain for your area.
Yes, we will take the rain!
Thanks for another adventure with the bison ! They bison all look great ! 😊
I was hoping you would take us to the sale. Thanks!
Love your videos and enjoy watching them. May the lord bless and protect you and your family and the bison and traveling with the bison
Thank you!
🎉wishing you and your family and the the great folks who help take care of those beautiful creatures a very happy and prosperous New Years🎉
Does it help in the sale price that you can identify the sire and dam genetically
Yes, if the buyers are focused on genetics it is helpful to know.
I’m curious, do pregnant bison sell for a great deal more?
❤🎉 Wow that 145 Heifer is amazing. It's awesome she'll go on to be a momma. Congratulations on your ranch and beautiful beloved animals and thanks for your videos!! 😊❤
💚💖🎄⭐🦬😊🥰
Thank you!
I can't say enough about how great Kevin is to help you with your Bison. What a great stepfather he is, you're so lucky to have him. I hate watching your babies go, but I understand it is a business 😢. There will be many, many more.
Yes, Kevin is a great asset to us! We appreciate him!! He keeps us laughing too!
Nice. I’m glad you can talk with the two new owners.
Yes, it will be fun to see them hopefully prosper at the new ranches they went to!
🇨🇦145 is gorgeous! They all are such majestic animals. I’m so glad to see the effort to bring them back, especially donating to indigenous reservations to help heal, generational wounds🙏🏻♥️
Congratulations on the sale!!!!!
I have been watching since the beginning and you have come so far in really a short time. What a great testament to the American Bison!
Thank you for following our journey to raise awareness for these incredible
animals!
I was checking out 145's back feet. She had some nice ankles, thick and sturdy looking. Hope you got a good price for her. She is good stock.
Love seeing your happy bison… living their best life…shows us how well cared for they are… Abundant New Years Blessings to you/Marissa/Brooks, Kevin, your mom too🙏🏻🦬 wishing for you @ Cross Timbers Bison, new adventures/positive growth, lots more videos, of all our Favorites…Big Joe, Eleanor, Dunbar… & rest of the herd… 🙏🏻🎉🎈🎆♥️

Happy New Year to you all from East Tennessee !
Happy New Year! Thank you!!
It's great to see you all growing and moving in the right direction! Crazy how far you have come from the days of one herd before Big Joe.
Thank you for following our journey! It has been a journey learning about these animals.
Dusty, it is wonderful how you’re concentrating on bringing the best genetics back to the American bison. They’re representative of our country, and I’m so happy you’ve chosen to raise this great animal. As always, love your videos and the hard work you put in to make this a successful endeavor.
Thank you for the encouragement, kind words and support! It's great to hear! They deserve it!
They are beautiful animals and very spiritual. I love watching your videos. Happy New Year from Australia.
Happy New Year! Thank you!
I love your channel. Your buffalo looks petty dang scary. I noticed you have a Great Pyrenees. I have a male Great Pyrenees. He is still a pup. Age about 8 months old. That needs a home to do his work. I live in town. My son found him wondering the highway. He has his shots. He is still intact. If you know someone that needs a dog. Let me know please. Y'all stay warm and safe. Y'all have a Happy New Year. God Bless!
As far as your TH-cam audience, you done right by us, Dusty. You knew who you were keeping and who you weren't. You've let us develop relationships with Dunbar, Big Joe, Peaches, etc but hard to with heffer #?? Not that we didn't love them, just that we knew where they were going from the get go. Wish other content creators with farm animals understood that and applied the same technique, ahemARMSachooo!! 😬
This is just an unrelated to the video comment. I watch you all the time and am in awe of the beautiful animals you have but, in the back of my mind I am wondering what will you do with the magnificent Dunbar and Big Joe when the have passed their prime. I then think that the a beautiful pasture, doesn't need to be big. should be set aside for them to live out their lives in. Would be wonderful to still see and visit them.
Most people retire the breed bulls at the age of 7-8+, we are not looking to retire them just yet! We agree it would be hard in general to part with them... so giving them a space to thrive the prime years out, is a great suggestion!
Hey Dusty. Your Bisons are so Sweet❤️❤️👍👍👍
Dusty and Marissa ♡♡,
I love that you are restoring these beautiful bisons back to their pure genitics as much as you can. It's truly awesome. Stay safe and blessed Baker family ❤🙏🏽💜.
🦋🍎
Thank you! They are incredible animals!
Dusty I own 400 acres in south carolina all pasture do you think they would do well in south carolina
Yes! They once roamed from Mexico to Alaska! They thrive on the grasslands and would provide a great addition to your eco system!
Your momma brought you up with manners….. I can tell, bc you always thank those who help out at the ranch.
Do you sell the hide off the ones you sell for meat
Currently working on getting hides tanned! It has taken sometime to locate a place that will tan the bison hides.
I showed in the 1969 Arabian Horse Nationals there. BIG memories.
Being involved in dog breeding and showing, genetic studies are fun! My grandkids are in FFA and 4 H one has Angus cattle, the younger sheep and rabbits. It good to see where your FFA years are now taking care of you and helping you to appreciate a genetically strong herd. Good job. Happy New Year CTB. Wishing you continued success.
So glad to hear the younger generation is eager to learn and be involved in the FFA and 4H! They are great communities for kids to be apart of! Happy New Year! Thank you!
Beautiful cows. Happy new year to your farm.
Happy New Year!
Nice sharing Vidio 🇮🇩🐃🐃🌺👍
They are so Majestic ❤ love the way they wait for you ❤ 11:09
Dusty am proud that you are confident to sell some of your stock now. Youve worked so hard to achieve this. Keep up your good work.🎉🎉. Shame the rain came when it did and made it harder to catch them but you did it. Well done on what youve achieved. All the herd look good and they are used to you being around them and it shows when your doing the hay bales. Take care and safe.🙋🐂🐂🙏
You have some beautiful animals, Dusty. I hope there comes a day that bison are so plentiful that the meat price is affordable for most folks so there is widespread comsumption. It's much healther meat but it is pricey. I hope you and your family have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
Yes - I agree! That would nice and a great health benefit to lots of people! Happy New Year! Thank you!
When selling, does a pregnant momma bison sell for more ? Just curious. I apologize if this is too personal of a question.
A breed 2 year old heifer this year for the average sale price across the country is around $2000. Lots of variables go into that, but that gives you an idea.
Thanks. If I was younger I would be interested but now I’m just to darn old. I have watched some bison farmers in Oregon. It was very interesting how they fenced and pastured. You knew from the fencing it wasn’t cows. Even before you saw them. Haven’t seen any in Northern California.
Fencing is a key component in raising them! You have to have good fencing or it will be a battle to keep them safe!
Love seeing your buffalo having fun especially Dunbar, since he had a few set backs!! Happy New Year to you and your family's.❤❤❤❤❤
Happy New Year!
Thank you for giving us the lineag of the two heifers you sold
I picked up some of your guys Bison meat today in Sulphur OK, I'm excited to try it out ! Thanks for gifting me the jerky ! I will have a video review on it soon on my channel !
Thank you for purchasing from us! Hope you enjoy the filet! Can't wait to watch.
I have wondered if coyotes are a threat to the red dogs or can the mothers able to protect them
Not in Oklahoma, those mothers are VERY protective. They are remarkable herd animals and act together to protect the young. We do not have a huge threat in Oklahoma, but if you look at other footage of the herd in areas where wolves are an issue, it's incredible how they handle defending the young.
Love your family’s integrity.
You should come to Canada to Southeast Saskatchewan we have 3 Bison farms close to my hometown of Moosomin Saskatchewan
We would love too! Its always a learning experience going to other ranches and see the animals and programs in place to yield great animals!
Anytime you all want to come up to the north I would love to show you what the great white north had for Bison
Spreading the gene pool is exciting to hear about.
Dusty I thought you tagged all the red dogs when you workedthem
Some of them were too young to work as they were born late, so we did not tag those. We will tag them in the spring working.
Have a Happy New Year. I love watching how you treat your bison.
They look very happy. I am glad you can keep up with the 1 heifer. Good job, Dusty!
Thank you! Hope they go on to be great gals for the ne ranch!
I’m a longtime subscriber and enjoy seeing life in America from a bison rancher’s perspective. Your videos are always interesting and informative. I have questions for you, Dusty. Is inbreeding an issue with your breeding stock? If it is how do you keep bulls separated from their female offspring? How does Mother Nature deal with this in the wild?
Breed-back has not been an issue that we know of in the wild or in private herds. We do not allow the offspring to be put back into the same pastures with the dam to keep bloodlines diverse.
Hey wait..Kevin is wearing red pants..does that mean that Bison don't react to red like Brama bulls "allegedly " do.?
Haha! The color does not seem to bother them... or Kevin is living on the edge with the pant color choice! ;)
Good day to all. Production of meat for market or breading stock. Yes. Man, to see you walk among the Heard is amazing!!, I don't know if l'm good with that.
The two heifers will go on to be breeding stock for the new ranches!
I know you are keeping the cows that lost their calves in the breeding program, but if a cow loses two calves, would you consider removing her from the program? Your customers are expecting calves that can reproduce without intervention...starting with questionable stock sounds like starting with one strike against you.
Great question and something we will have to face if that should happen again this year. Unfortunately if they are not able to provide a healthy calf it becomes not economical to continue to keep them. Hopefully we do not have to go down that road again this summer!
Probably a stupid question but, speaking of genetics- is there a risk that a bull get a daughter of him pregnant? Is that why you keep two herds during breeding season?
You are correct, that is why we keep the two herds this year to know who parents are, we can also pull hair on the calves if we need to double check who the dam and sire is. Also another reason to sell your offspring and/or rotate out your heifers/cows.
It would be interesting to see more detail during a sale. How many animals, how they are typically priced (avg price say for a 800 lb calf), what makes a really impressive bison that sells high, etc.
Very cool video. Best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year. I ❤ DUNBAR
Thank you! Happy New Year!
Nice to see you getting rain to fill your ponds! Happy New Year!
Bison are loving that hay they are big and beautiful Dusty
I think it’s great that the bison are checked over by Doc before the sale. I wish all livestock auctions were that way. Some of the farm channels I watch get animals from an auction only to discover they bought a sick animal.
It is helpful to know where the animals come from too!
Hi dusty you have nice 🦬 good luck i like big Joe is a nice basion looks good have a nice day
I never ate bison beef jerkey or pepperoni stx I just got my order and it was good like regular beef jerkey
We are glad you liked them! Bison meat is higher in protein than beef too!
I haven't heard your update on the tx cow. How is she doing?
Texas Cow is doing good and gaining weight!
Big Joe and Kits baby is beautiful!
She is!
Congrats on all your hard work. 😊❤
The great beasts likely know when something is afoot.
yes, they do!
Happy New Year to you Dusty and to your family. Enjoy watching your videos
Happy New Year! Thank you!
I spent Christmas in hospital here in Ireland and one of my nurses was from Oklahoma! Your videos helped me through my time there. Happy New Year!
Oklahoman relocated to Ireland...small world! Hope you are on the mend! Happy New Year!
Hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas. Have a very Happy New Year. May God bless you with an awesome an exciting coming year. Thank you for explaining some of the selling parts. How do you figure out the price when it comes to selling them. Are there specific things to look for on the re body??? Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us ❤❤
Yes, it is not only genetics but also the body structure as well. A lot of factors go into selecting your breeding herd and what cows you pair with what bull depending on what one may lack or make up for in the other. A couple things we look at are the length of the body, the hips and back structure, how deep the chest cavity is, etc. Thank you for following our journey!
@CrossTimbersBison thank you for explaining this. I really enjoy your videos. Hope you continue to enlightening us
How about an update on the heifer that Noah gave you? Is she bred now?
She is doing good and had her first calf this year! We will try to do an update showing her soon! Thank you for the question!
Dusty, allow me to honor your animal husbandry. Your heart expands out to the wild creatures, your native pasture grasses, other bison ranchers and of course your fwmily. I wondered watching this episode if you were selling that poor cow you struggled so hard to save from poisoning by her dead calf. Last postings she was seeming to recover her sepsis. But you were troubled by the question of allowing her to get pregnant again. What did you decide to do? I could justify evrything from eithaniziing her to returning her to breeding and testing her healing. This is another example of your excellence as a herdsman.
And I could also see how putting your decision out among those who didn't see how much that cow suffered might not understand any of your bad choices with her, and unfairly criticise you. I may never know how you finally handled her. But respect your privacy and your wisdom. If she lives, give her my warm regards. Do take some for yourself.
Can you breed father to daughter with bison.
Breeding back is not known to have issues in the wild or in private herds, however we try to minimize that by rotating them to different herds if we are going to keep the heifers.
Happy New Year to you and your family!! Elizabeth Goodrich, Texas
Happy New Year!
Interesting video.
