As a newer viewer of DW, I hate that everyone has been do negative about this season. This is the first season i have watched as its aired (I've been watching since the 50th, but have seen all eps since 9) and I've loved it! Jenna and Peter have been great and I've loved all the stories!
Did anyone else want very badly for the creature to be a star whale? Actually, I wanted it to be THE star whale, the one that comes to rescue the children. If its egg was our moon, it would already be familiar with our planet and maybe have reason to respond if its inhabitants were in danger. It would also have given the Doctor an actual reason to step back the way he did...he would have recognized the creature, and would be afraid of getting it wrong again. Last time he dealt with the "one innocent creature vs. all of humanity, who do I save?" question, Amy was the one who figured out the solution, which could give the Doctor a very good reason to want to leave it up to the humans next time.
Thanks. I knew I wasn't alone in thinking that. I actually thought is was a star whale because the creatures made the same sound. Well, perhaps that is what a star whale looks like after being born? It hasn't been confirmed nor denied yet so we can still dream :)
"Ugh, I hate Clara so much! It's the Clara Show now!" "So I'm assuming you didn't like it when it was all about Rose?" "NO! ROSE IS GREAT! SERIES 1-2 WERE SO GOOD!!!!" The hypocrisy is unreal
To be honest i dont have a problem with Clara being the center of attention in some episodes. Its to be expected. Its her overall character i dont like. She started as the impossible girl and is now the irritating girl.
MacoGrande Yeah, my point isn't about her as a character. Say what you will about her (I personally think she's great, but that's besides the point) but complaining that she's the center of attention is extremely hypocritical. I wasn't a fan of Rose, like at all, but I didn't mind that she was the center of attention in Seasons 1 and 2.
+++Rant warning after the cut. "I hate this episode, this episode was awful, Moffat ruined it... blah blah blah... MOFFAT!!! Blah blah blah..." "But Moffat didn't write the episode" "BUT MOFFAT IS THE SHOWRUNNER!!!" On the other hand... "Oh this episode was awesome and I loved it. Doctor Who is the best!!! I wish all episodes were like this one" "Yeah, Moffat is a great show runner and I think he's making a great job" "But Moffat didn't write this episode so he has nothing to do with this" And there is also... "Ugh, I hate Clara, she has no development, she's just there, she's just another stupid girl following the Doctor and her life revolves around him and we know nothing about her... ugh I hate her she's way too normal... ugh none of Moffat women have important roles... MOFFAT HATES WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND LITTLE FURRY CREATURES" *They give Clara a story, they show development, they show that the Doctor can make mistakes and that the companion has an important role in every Doctor's regeneration, and basically just give her characteristics that everyone complains that she never had (even if they were always there)* "UGH I HATE CLARA, SHE'S WAY TOO DEVELOPED IS UNREAL, UGH THEY GAVE HER A BACKSTORY, UGH SHE ALWAYS HELP THE DOCTOR, UGH SHE'S WAY TOO GOOD, SHE'S NOT NORMAL, WHY ISN'T SHE NORMAL?! WHY IS SHE MAKING THE DOCTOR LOOK BAD?! THE DOCTOR IS NEVER WRONG?! WHY DOES CLARA HAS A PESONALITY?! UGH I HATE HER SHE'S TOO GOOD" And there is always ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE... *sigh* I hate that the noisy side of the DW fandom might ruin things for the ones who actually enjoy the show as is happening (which are a bigger number), DW has its issues and things to improve, but when the "debate" is always as shown above... well, why bother? TBH, I know much more people who likes Clara a lot more than they liked any other companion, just like happened with Martha, but unfortunately the ones that make more noise are, and will always be, the ones who are not happy for some reason. Even professional reviewers liked this episode, but fans that don't like change and development are the loudest. I hate too that Rose is always the comparative point for EVERYONE, first Martha wasn't good enough, then Donna, then Amy, and now Clara... to be honest Rose was the one to show the less development EVER. And she was an awful person, remember what did she told Mickey when she basically abandoned him and ruined his life? She said: "Thank you" "For what?" "Exactly" I don't know, maybe for putting up with you, for loving you, for being there for you and doing his best to make you happy even if his efforts weren't enough for you. And then she comes back and instead of showing remorse for worrying her mum and making Mickey look as if he had commit murder (and YES, that can ruin anyone) she looks annoyed and comes back as if she had gone to the store to get gum for a few minutes instead of a whole year later. She always treated her mum as if she was the last priority, if Mickey hadn't been there I'm sure she had died very soon and Rose wouldn't have been very sad, I mean she was okay leaving her whole family stuck in a parallel universe just to stay with Ten. HER life DID revolve around The Doctor and no one else, but for some reason is okay when Rose is like this. Rose arc NEVER EVER ENDED, Ten spent his whole regeneration sulking for her, damn, everyone knew who she was because she was mentioned all the time, she was the main character even when other companion was with him so you can't come and tell me that Clara is the main character just because she's doing a great job being a companion when she is actually the companion, Rose wasn't even there and yet she was always the main companion. And she came back, after she was told not to because it could destroy entire universes, what did she said about it? "SO?" The little brat said "SO?"... "So what if I kill entire universes, and a lot of people, I have to be with you, it's not big deal, is just murder on a big scale"... in the end she didn't get what she wanted.... oh wait she kind of did because she accepts a replacement of the one she "loved", I mean did she really love Ten that much if she's okay taking a look-a-like clone of him, even if his personality was probably different? Because Ten Too was NOT Ten, he had his memories but that was it. Oh and whenever presented with the idea that the Doctor was hundreds years old and that she wasn't the first or the last, she was annoyed and jealous as if she owned him. Martha put herself first, then her family and lastly her love for the Doctor. She didn't need a anything but her own strenght to save the Doctor, she was pretty badass and in the end she was assured of her worth and decided to move on. And yet she's one of the most hated companions. Donna didn't think that she was worth and unfortunately we never got to see her development because everything she archived was lost, but that was not it because she always thought that she was not important, and the Doctor never got to change her mind. Why is no one bothered by that? Oh yeah, sorry, sad and tragic stories for some reason are better accepted for this fandom than the ones that actually give hope and show growth. Amy was AMAZING! She was always outspoken and even with little idea of who she wanted to be and a huge fear of commitment, and abandonment issues she was self-assured, she always knew she mattered and that her opinions were important. She understood early on that the Doctor was never going to be there forever and that she was never the first or the last, and she was okay with that, she got to understand the Doctor better because she never saw herself as her owner and that helped her to learn and grow, she kicked ass "I'm worth two men". But whatever she did is not important because oh, she loved her husband. I mean, she saved the day many times, she never needed anyone to save her, she created her own life and used her experiences to become an entrepeneur, she created her own perfume and became a model, she wrote books and settled perfectly well outside her own time. When given the choice she picked the reality where his family (Rory) was, because he loved her and was important to her. When stuck on a different dimention she learned to deffend herself, she didn't know if she was going to be saved but she fought anyway, not because she wanted to go back (she did) but because her life was more important. Rory, well, he was everything everyone complained about Martha and Amy. He was Amy's pet, his life did revolve around her, he did everything for her even if he got hurt so many times, he had ZERO self-confidence... and even Rory became awesome, he waited two thousand years for Amy without a scratch on his plastic body, he always made the important questions, he learned his self-worth and learned to speak up his mind. Amy was still the center of his world but even he learned that he was important too. But no one speaks about him. Oh and he was called Mr. Pond the whole time he was there but when Amy is shown as Mrs. Williams is suddenly an issue and she somehow lost her personality. Oh well. And River... kick ass woman saves herself, overcomes her demons and instead of a murderer becomes a protector, lives life under her own rules, outsmarts the Doctor, uses prision as her hotel, looks for answers the right way instead of going blind (studies archeology to find the answers she needs and becomes respected in her field), has her own adventures, with or without the Doctor she is perfectly fine and can fend herself... but she loves her husband and somehow that demerits everything she has ever done, she is capable of putting her loved ones firsts so she is suddenly a mary sue and another awful character. She was meant to be a mirror of the Doctor, and she did well on her own. Her biggest weakness was her inhability to show emotion "always hide the damage", she was taught that emotion was a weakness... And then Clara comes and tell us "NO, emotion is a superpower that will make you better. Emotion is okay, emotion is human." Clara is just a normal person, that doesn't really need the Doctor to tell her how amazing she is, she already knows, and that allows her to be what the Doctor needs when he's lost. She is not perfect because she is afraid of losing control of things (when she was a kid she was afraid of being lost) so she pushes herself to her limits to keep control. She saves the Doctor because she sees how good he is and that saving him, she's saving everyone. She won't let him tell her what to do, but she trusts his knowledge, she trusts him. She will travel with him under her own rules, and she will always put her responsabilities first because she also understand that traveling with the Doctor is not going to be forever. She is learning too, she's growing, and that is amazing. Clara is great and a whole different kind of character in the new series. But everyone hates her. And yes, trying to apply logic to DW... yes, because Cybermen are, real, Adipose too, and let's not forget about Oods. But yes, Moffat is awful, just like change, imagination, growth, and development. *sigh*
Hmm, funny how professional reviewers and REAL fans have given it top marks like 10/10 or 5 stars. Yet Whiny, emotionally blind, TH-camrs are not so keen, well when are they? If this is not the kind of thing you want to see then you have picked the wrong series to watch. And I like how people are complaining about Moffat, yet he didn't write this one XD And I like how people think Clara being the centre of attention is a bad thing (after complaining that she had no characterisation in series 7). Not like she's the main character or anything. And yes, the companion is the main character, not the Doctor. The series is about The Doctor showing the companion the universe, but the story is about the companion. That's why we know so little about the Doctor. People like to forget that this isn't just Sci-Fi. Is a Sci-Fi Drama. Just think about that.
Sorry bitch, but reviewers are not the majority, and they do not speak for the majority. And the fact is that the majority is pissed off how entered this is on fucking Clara
Those people who were complaining about Clara doing nothing at all in the last half of Series 7 are the same people who are now complaining that Clara's getting more screen time than the Doctor. MAKE UP YOUR BLOODY MINDS PEOPLE!
I love this new series and the fresher, trickier dynamic between the Doctor and Clara. Yes, there are familiar elements in storytelling, but with the development of each character, the stories don't feel tired enough to bore or irritate me, personally. Besides...aren't some stories -- some morals -- worth retelling? I've always liked to be reminded not to judge a book by its cover...or a creature by its shell. My love and empathy for both Clara and the Doctor grow every episode. Shout out to all the other happy fans.
I personally liked the episode, I thought it was okay, and had a nice pace, too. But what the fuck is your problem with Clara? She stands up for herself and puts the Doctor back to his place when he goes all like "silly little humans don't understand anything". I don't see how she was wrong in any way when she told the Doctor off. I like her acting and her character. I just can't understand what your problem is.
Exactly. What she said at the end was basically just a fancy way of saying 'You're not my father'. No one's forcing the Doctor to always be Earth's saviour. He does so of his own according. So just sitting back and letting others make a terrible decision pretty much goes against everything he stands for.
The Doctor has never made decisions for earth. Ever. Yes he does step in if there is exterior forces threatening them but that is another matter entirely. If there is a decision to be made that can change the history of earth it should be Humankinds decision, not the Doctors.
FINALLY CLARA! Thank you for calling out the Doctor. There are times when he just goes too far. I can't believe he left Clara behind with a 15 year old student. A great contrast between him and the Eleventh. Now since the 12th Doctor is just like the first Doctor, he is going to definitely learn a lot. This is because yes, the Doctor is a hero, but heroes can make mistakes even bad ones. And now we have Clara telling him this. Remember, Donna told him to find someone who can stop him because he's not very responsible on his own. I love all the companions, but Clara has just got to be the best because of this episode. A lot of people are not happy about Clara's reaction, but really the Doctor was not the Doctor in this episode and he had to know that before going even farther. (Keep in mind the show has always centered around the companions so they could act as the audience surrogate.)
There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's lynching of disbelief. This episode wrapped a course rope tight around disbelief's head, kicked the horse out from underneath it, and left its corpse to rot in the sun.
It is because it was as dull as a story could ever be, with seriously stupid ideas, Clara's worst episode to date by a long way i wanted Capaldi to go Malcom Tucker on her. Then Courtney aswell didn't contribute to this story just extended completely unnecessary boring scenes. I could go on more but ill leave it at that.
EyeBall Gamers I have watched every episode apart from a few lost episodes. I don't have to like every episode to be a whovian. But the past 3 season have been the worst in doctor who, there are some great episodes still in these series but i don't have to like every episode. There is no doubt that they are struggling writing good stories right now.
These comments... Seriously, it's like people are actively *trying* to dislike every single episode this series. Everyone here is complaining about the tiniest, stupidest things that somehow made them hate the episode, the series, the show and life itself. "Sure, it was a thrilling, intense episode that deals with a big moral issue in a serious manner and shows new sides of the charecters that we haven't seen yet thus making it original, intense, and engaging, but how does an alien lay an egg right after being hatched? Terrible episode!"
This buttheaded aspect of the Doctor has already been covered by the first and sixth Doctors . I really hope they aren't going to waste an entire season growing his personality .
I liked the episode as a whole but I really hated clara in it and the ending is just ridiculous. how does a newly born space thing have the ability to lay an egg bigger than its self within minutes of hatching?
Because it has a different anatomy? It is an alien after all... why aren't you complaining about how unrealistic it is for The Doctor to have 2 hearts?
TheMightyWill its not a stretch. Earthworms have more than one heart. But nothing in the realm of physics can lay an egg bigger that its own space seconds after birth. Fantasy does not equal SciFi.
I don't understand why this episode gets so much hate. Although not one of the best, I really did enjoy it and I think it's a very cool idea. Like just imagine...
I enjoyed this episode very much, the only problem I had with it though (and it is a major one!) is Courtney, she is honestly one of the most annoying characters I have seen in Doctor Who, every like she had it was like "urgh, get off the damn screen!" But other than that I did enjoy the episode overall :)
It was OK, but I felt unengaged and it was a bit dull. Personally, I feel that the writer shouldn't write any further episodes, because he doesn't seem like he can write characters or cares about real life science
LegendKiller1fan He's had too much impact on this series and has run out of good original ideas. He should pass on the title of Head Writer to someone else at the end of this series, but I know he's doing Series 9, which saddens me. He was great in Russell's Era, but he's losing his magic.
ThomasA-D-O-B-O As the head writer, he tidies all scripts. Adds in what he wants, takes out what he wants. He's the show runner and it's his fault if the show is bad.
Today, as I was sick, I watched series 3 and 4 fully on Netflix and have to say Moffat has overstayed his welcome. He writes as if Matt Smith is still acting as the Doctor
***** Yes but being head writer you fix and make changes/ give ideas to the writers making the story. Like making everyone want to push Clara into the time vortex.
In my opinion Clara is creating a prison for the doctor. Not letting him be his old self and do things he needs to. There needs to be more Doctor and Less Clara. Yes, Clara is the Doctors companion. However, the Doctor needs he shine a bit more.
Hey guy enjoy the series as its been great so far and if you don't like it, don't bother commenting and saying how terrible it is. If you don't like it don't watch it!
I have been lukewarm on this whole season so far. The actors are doing fine and the stories are okay. Something, some bit of magic feels like it is missing. I can't put my finger on it.
This series will never be as good as series 1-7. But I'm alright with it. I liked this episode, but I wish they'd done more with the spider. From the next time trailer it looked like they'd be trapped in a moon base with an awesome spider thing, but then they added the egg thing and Clara getting pissed and the episode was ruined.
The old/original Doctor Whos were were limited by the kind of Speciale ffects to rubber monster, and by the expectations of viewers who had limited science back grounds dating back to the 1960s. Today we should deserve much better sci-fi than Egg moons, screaming spider bacteria monsters, and liquid amniotic fluid in an air-less sub-zero space environment. The episode suffered greatly from unexplained bad science that might have worked in the 1960's with as I suggested,a less sophisticated audience. I personally had problems with the poor sciencs, but not so with Clara's reaction, which if unexpected, is okay, since humans do suffer emotional andstress (over)reactions sometimes.
Geeeezzuus so many preconception and expectations about how everything 'ought to be'. Just watch with an open mind and enjoy the ride; or don't, whatever. Complaining won't get you anywhere.
If you consider it defeatist to go into something with an open mind without bringing in all your prior preconceptions, then that's up to you. I just don't see the point in ruining a potentially good experience by expecting something to always live up to your personal standards. Everyone has a different point of view, change is a constant. And I don't believe complaining got us out of living in caves, forward thinking and the will to act and move on did, not sitting around complaining that we didn't like it. Besides, maybe some of us were perfectly happy living in caves. :P
There's nothing wrong wiith an open mind, or your point for that matter, but the way its worded sounds as though people having a set standard for their own opinions is a bad thing. If you like to let the show play out and love whatever it does, thats fine! It's your opinion and no body's going to change that fact, but also remember that having standards is not a bad thing either. No, we didn't leave caves because of complaing, but we did fine tune our way of life outside them because there were people who would go out their and state their opinions instead of just letting things continue as they are. That's how we get better, multile ideas that allow someone to have a better understanding is better than everyone blatantly loving or hating something.
It's either because they completely missed the point of Clara's outburst or they've just gone "ha. moon waz an egg. lol" Seriously, don't listen to the haters.
This episode seems to be the most divisive episode of Doctor Who ever. I've only seen people either giving it a 1/10 or 10/10. Hell, even Love And Monsters and Rings Of Akhaten weren't as divisive as this.
i didn't like this episode, but not because of clara. She was okay, but what bothered me most was the doctor himself. He said to a little girl she wasn't special. He didn't even feel bad about it, or take it back. He decided he had to go out and *make* her special. He didn't even care that somebody was planning to kill an innocent creature who hadn't even felt what it's like to live yet! Peter has the potential to be a great doctor, but not when they go back on the values of every doctor that many fans have seen so far (since many have not seen much before the reboot idk if they're like this) idk it just felt painful to watch him just go "I don't care, kill it, don't kill it"
You grossly missed what the doctor was saying. He didn't say he didn't care. He cared a great deal. This decision was something that would dictate what happened to the human race in the future, he felt that this was a decision that should be made by humans. Also, you managed to miss the bit right before Clara went off on the doctor. He mentions that she goes on to become the president of the united states. He said she wasn't special because he knew it would get her motivated to prove him wrong. Also, we already know Peter's doctor is rather dark besides, it's part of his character.
Maybe thats what happened. But the bit where he decides humanity should make this decision was a bit out of the blue. The thing with the whole "you're not special" bit, i must have missed that part about the president, but it just didn't sit right with me. You can like him acting this way if you want, i think im still trying to get used to him after 11 (he was my first doctor, so im still kinda sad he's gone)
I love it how people draw the line and get pissed off at the moon being an egg. Come one people. This show is about a guy with two hearts who can change his physical appearance when he dies and has a time machine bigger on the inside than the outside. If you can't accept the moon being an egg and the dragon laying a new egg at birth (which we never saw so it's not impossible that the egg grew after it was laid), how can you accept any of those things? ANSWER ME THAT!
Robert Lythgoe Hmm, I just remembered - the Silurians went underground when they detected a massive object on a collision course with the Earth (i.e. the Moon) - does this fit in with that? I don't really have a problem with the Moon being an egg, what I have problems with are the physics involved - like that the thing in the egg moving would cause localised shifts in gravity, or that a single-celled organism can have distinctly specialised body parts such as legs (never mind their size)... I think this episode has to be the worst for that sort of thing. (Note: that is not the same as saying it is the worst *episode*.)
I enjoyed this episode but for sure it wasn't my favourite, the whole the moon is an egg thing was a tad wtf but I realised doctor who is one of those shows which can get away with saying something like that but yeah it was good just not oh my god that was amazing which I didn't expect it to be either.
She was upset because she felt betrayed by the Doctor. She's used to him always being there, in his previous incarnation as well as in "Deep Breath," the series premiere. Remember when, while facing the Half-Face Man, she said, "If the Doctor is still the Doctor, he'll have my back" and reached behind her -- the Doctor was there to grab her hand. And now she's faced with the whole of humanity in her hands and he basically scarpered off, as those across the pond might say. Putting her under that much pressure when he may not have needed to (Clara even says she can't tell if the Doctor lied about not knowing what was going to happen) and forcing Clara nearly to allow a stranger kill her, her student, and a celestial being, really hurt her, even though from the Doctor's perspective, he trusted her to make the right choice. It was a sticky situation, and it appears Clara needs a break from the Doctor to cool off.
I thought the episode was ok, personally there isn't really truly a horrible Doctor Who episode because it has to thrive on being silly sometimes. But the one thing that really just annoyed me was the science of it... i mean, why was the earth not destroyed with the differences of mass from the moon? Or when it was gone why were there no tidal disasters? How did the animal stay alive or lay an egg larger than itself? Just many things i got annoyed about, only other thing really was the 15 year old was piss annoying, she's a rubbish actor and it seems like the writer doesnt know how teenagers actually act. Id give it a 6/10, not horrible but probably my least favourite so far.
wildcats8530 I liked Victory of the Daleks for the most part since it introduced the new daleks which look awesome which need to be seen more... as for the others, they are a faded memory which really says they are bad, but they still appeal to some people which is the idea of diversity in Doctor Who.
The force of the whole "Pro-Life/Abortion" message on here was painful. I mean at least in "The Beast Below" it was looked at in both ways. The positives and negatives of killing the Space Whale and its effects of those around it. It obviously looked at both parts of the spectrum relatively equally. It wasn't exactly pro life/choice but it did look at the aspect of one life over another. But here? It's like, if you kill a life you're a monster and you have no soul and the entire world will be doomed and you suck. But if you let this thing hatch, a giant space Pteranadon will fly out, conveniently ignore the big blue ball before it and then conveniently lay an egg the exact size and density as the moon and everything will be perfect. Because remember Clara Oswlad fought the Great Intelligence to atone for mankind's sins. But jokes aside, it really irks me. You could've had a good episode, scary with all the issues of spiders and stuff and the idea of the moon being an egg would've been an interesting premise. But the forced Aesop on here is just obnoxious I think. Which is kind of funny because Doctor Who focuses a lot on the idea of free choice such as homosexuality and bisexuality. So its almost ironic that the show which greatly appreciates the idea that you should have a choice in your own sexuality then goes up to say you have no choice here. This was a poor episode IMO and to me, the next episode afterwards "Mummy on the Orient Express" was like a huge breath of fresh air. And mind you even ignoring the whole issue with the pro-life/choice message, the entire thing felt rushed. I see a lot of points indicating how things don't make sense or how nothing is accurate.
I tend to be pretty critical of Doctor Who (The Rings of Akhaten made me want to rip out my own eyes so as not to have to suffer a single more second) but I actually really enjoyed this episode. Admittedly, "The moon's an egg!" was a bit too close to daft, but I think it had enough build up and reasoning to excuse it. As for the moon defying the law of conservation of mass TWICE (putting on weight without taking in any exterior matter and laying an egg twice the size of itself), I'm willing to forgive it as these are two plot points that the story wouldn't have worked without.
love this episode but woulda been better if they used actual americans to play the americans like they did in the tenth doctor series, still loved it tho :)
The episode felt uncoherent and a bit illogical. Stunning visuals & score and a great and emotional moment at the end with Clara and the Doctor. But I felt the episode as a whole was not as good as the rest of the series 8 episodes.
I love Peter Capaldi as the Doctor but these stories really aren't doing him justice. There better be something impressive in the finale or about Missy.... Just saying...
"I'm wearing David Tennant's old space suit. So I just have to worry about hair gel" lol I love him!!!
As a newer viewer of DW, I hate that everyone has been do negative about this season. This is the first season i have watched as its aired (I've been watching since the 50th, but have seen all eps since 9) and I've loved it! Jenna and Peter have been great and I've loved all the stories!
Mad that space suit has been worn by David Tennant,Matt smith and Peter Capaldi.
I love these new extras! It gives us something in between episodes.
I absolutely adored this episode
Yeah, I don't care what the haters say. I've been watching Doctor Who for years and I thought it was an outstanding episode.
This episode is my new favorite of this season so far!
"Ugh, I hate Clara so much! It's the Clara Show now!"
"So I'm assuming you didn't like it when it was all about Rose?"
"NO! ROSE IS GREAT! SERIES 1-2 WERE SO GOOD!!!!"
The hypocrisy is unreal
Preach. Rose came back about 100 times.
Yes such masterpieces like Aliens in London/World war three , fear her and love and monsters.
Thank you for this. I love the RTD era, but Rose Tyler and Series 2 were both shit.
+++Rant warning after the cut.
"I hate this episode, this episode was awful, Moffat ruined it... blah blah blah... MOFFAT!!! Blah blah blah..."
"But Moffat didn't write the episode"
"BUT MOFFAT IS THE SHOWRUNNER!!!"
On the other hand...
"Oh this episode was awesome and I loved it. Doctor Who is the best!!! I wish all episodes were like this one"
"Yeah, Moffat is a great show runner and I think he's making a great job"
"But Moffat didn't write this episode so he has nothing to do with this"
And there is also...
"Ugh, I hate Clara, she has no development, she's just there, she's just another stupid girl following the Doctor and her life revolves around him and we know nothing about her... ugh I hate her she's way too normal... ugh none of Moffat women have important roles... MOFFAT HATES WOMEN AND CHILDREN AND LITTLE FURRY CREATURES"
*They give Clara a story, they show development, they show that the Doctor can make mistakes and that the companion has an important role in every Doctor's regeneration, and basically just give her characteristics that everyone complains that she never had (even if they were always there)*
"UGH I HATE CLARA, SHE'S WAY TOO DEVELOPED IS UNREAL, UGH THEY GAVE HER A BACKSTORY, UGH SHE ALWAYS HELP THE DOCTOR, UGH SHE'S WAY TOO GOOD, SHE'S NOT NORMAL, WHY ISN'T SHE NORMAL?! WHY IS SHE MAKING THE DOCTOR LOOK BAD?! THE DOCTOR IS NEVER WRONG?! WHY DOES CLARA HAS A PESONALITY?! UGH I HATE HER SHE'S TOO GOOD"
And there is always ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE ROSE...
She said:
"Thank you"
"For what?"
"Exactly"
I don't know, maybe for putting up with you, for loving you, for being there for you and doing his best to make you happy even if his efforts weren't enough for you.
"SO?"
The little brat said "SO?"...
*sigh*
wow... that was beautiful [standing ovation]
I agree with everything you've said.
Wow. Almost everything you have said was wrong.
Feel like I should carry on the chain and comment. This comment is Beautiful!!!
yes
It's so cool to watch what happens behind the scenes thank you!
Great episode!
Your opinion, much like mine, doesn't really hold any weight so long as you don't pay any attention to it.
The writers missed the mark by not tying the spider germs with the Raknoss and the creation of Earth.
And I like how people are complaining about Moffat, yet he didn't write this one XD
And I like how people think Clara being the centre of attention is a bad thing (after complaining that she had no characterisation in series 7).
Preach, completely agree.
Sorry bitch, but reviewers are not the majority, and they do not speak for the majority. And the fact is that the majority is pissed off how entered this is on fucking Clara
I like you haha
KawasakiFreak What majority is that, mate?
Reapzehz, I love your review and appreciate you sharing your thoughts. Thank you :-)
My favorite part of this episode is the dialogue between Clara and the Doctor at the end. I love it!
Those people who were complaining about Clara doing nothing at all in the last half of Series 7 are the same people who are now complaining that Clara's getting more screen time than the Doctor. MAKE UP YOUR BLOODY MINDS PEOPLE!
Hair gel in the space helmet hahahah good one Peter
Damn right!
(Keep in mind the show has always centered around the companions so they could act as the audience surrogate.)
to be honest, the set used in The Moonbase was just as effective
There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's lynching of disbelief. This episode wrapped a course rope tight around disbelief's head, kicked the horse out from underneath it, and left its corpse to rot in the sun.
I loved this episode don't know what some people are on about
It is because it was as dull as a story could ever be, with seriously stupid ideas, Clara's worst episode to date by a long way i wanted Capaldi to go Malcom Tucker on her.
Illusionz Man kk
Illusionz Man dont get ur nickers in a twist
EyeBall Gamers No need for you to make assumptions.
I actually really enjoyed the episode.. I don't know why it has received so many negative views.
The episode received critical acclaim.
Do you know whats funny where they filmed the moon in this episode is actually where they filmed the moon landing
I know right.
omg you can see richard madden reading a book in the background!
How do you even land a shuttle on the moon. No RunWay, no tires, NO AIR to glide with.
At 4:47 , Peter Capaldi is describing the cooling system used in actual space Suits.
Ha, hair gel joke from Capaldi to Tennant. Clever.
One way to fix this story completely, make it on a different planet.
This buttheaded aspect of the Doctor has already been covered by the first and sixth Doctors . I really hope they aren't going to waste an entire season growing his personality .
I liked the episode as a whole but I really hated clara in it and the ending is just ridiculous. how does a newly born space thing have the ability to lay an egg bigger than its self within minutes of hatching?
lol right!
Wow, that's a serious nitpick right there.
Fuck off.
And the film crew immediately gives birth to a second film crew about the same size and weight as the first.
You know, as they do.
What song is at 7:28?! I really need to know.
Awsome set location.
when this series goes to video will the extras be on it?
This word... "Lanzarote" reminds me of Trenzalore... I can't stop thinking about that
***** Not quite, Trenzalore has an extra e and not enough a's...
What came first the chicken... or the egg????
The moon!
Imo man excellent episode
First a ginormous wasp, now big spiders? Have some respect for people with entomophobia and arachnophobia....sheesh!
Piero Francesco Scaglione I know this comment is two years old but you genuinely made me laugh.
And I'm still creeped out!
Name of that samba at 3:51 ?
The first half of this was brilliant. The second half of this was convoluted and all things considered, crap.
Yeah, I recognised Lanzarote when I watched the episode!
Visually stunning, should have been a two parter, executed poorly, the moon was a space egg?...what. (I loved Clara in this)
2:45 - 2:50 richard madden in the background?
As an arachnophobic, this episode was really hard for me to watch. Oddly, I still loved it, I don't understand why so much people hate this season...
It was OK, but I felt unengaged and it was a bit dull. Personally, I feel that the writer shouldn't write any further episodes, because he doesn't seem like he can write characters or cares about real life science
*Cough* Steve Moffat *Cough
LegendKiller1fan He's had too much impact on this series and has run out of good original ideas. He should pass on the title of Head Writer to someone else at the end of this series, but I know he's doing Series 9, which saddens me. He was great in Russell's Era, but he's losing his magic.
LegendKiller1fan
Moffat is not the wirter in this ep, so jokes on you.
LegendKiller1fan Pretty sure Moffat didn't write this, stop blaming Moffat for all your whines.
ThomasA-D-O-B-O As the head writer, he tidies all scripts. Adds in what he wants, takes out what he wants. He's the show runner and it's his fault if the show is bad.
Just watched it :)
One small thing for a thing one enormous thing for a thingy thingy
I would have liked to learn more about that creature which hatched from the moon?
my name the master and the doctor fantastic
This episode only exists because the crew wanted to spend 2 weeks in Lanzarote. Just like the Grown Ups movies.
Given that an egg is a closed system, the moon should have been incapable of gaining mass.
Today, as I was sick, I watched series 3 and 4 fully on Netflix and have to say Moffat has overstayed his welcome. He writes as if Matt Smith is still acting as the Doctor
Moffat didn't write this, so stop using this excuse :)
***** It had Steven Moffat written all over it!
***** Yes but being head writer you fix and make changes/ give ideas to the writers making the story. Like making everyone want to push Clara into the time vortex.
Stop constantly hating on Moffat, he's done so much for Doctor Who and deserves less hate.
Owen Bush He has done nothing since he became showrunner.
anyone knows the song of the beginning?
In my opinion Clara is creating a prison for the doctor. Not letting him be his old self and do things he needs to. There needs to be more Doctor and Less Clara. Yes, Clara is the Doctors companion. However, the Doctor needs he shine a bit more.
Did anyone else see a slight change in the intro for this episode? Could it be just me?
I say it on livetvcafe.net--where did everyone else se it?
I could have watched on BBC One hut I watched it on BBC iPlayer on my iPad.
BBC1
What happened to the exciting theme song playing when something exciting was going on?
Hey guy enjoy the series as its been great so far and if you don't like it, don't bother commenting and saying how terrible it is. If you don't like it don't watch it!
I'd rather not take on a defeatist attitude. If we all did that, we would be speaking German.
I would rate it 7.3/10 to be honest.
I was hoping for Raccnos but they will do.
same i dont see why they dident have them insted of a giant tic
spookytrain productions Oh well maybe in a future episode.
I have been lukewarm on this whole season so far. The actors are doing fine and the stories are okay. Something, some bit of magic feels like it is missing. I can't put my finger on it.
Q: Do you think the episode lived up to the hype?
No, but I still liked it.
No it was terrible.
Yes, it was great all these other fuckers are expecting to much!
Jonathan Jmaster Please tell me what was good about this episode.
Yep.
The only solution is to bring back Russel T Davies alongside the excellent cast during his era and Doctor Who will be good again.
Yay!! Lanzarote is amazing, ain't it ;) Glad even Moffat agrees
Why do people hate Courtney? I think she's a great character
She's OK. Not as bad as the Nightmare In Silver kids.
Lol 😂 the only way I found out there was a new Dr. Was through Netflixes Cobra Kai
I hear Clara won't feature in next weeks episode! Next week the Doctor will have to make do without her!
I think we just found the answer to climate change...
joshua powell
?
This series will never be as good as series 1-7. But I'm alright with it. I liked this episode, but I wish they'd done more with the spider. From the next time trailer it looked like they'd be trapped in a moon base with an awesome spider thing, but then they added the egg thing and Clara getting pissed and the episode was ruined.
... I liked the episode.
Why did the chicken cross the road???
Because it's not a chicken
What a horribly defeatist attitude. If nobody ever complained, we would all still be living in a cave in France.
That's how we get better, multile ideas that allow someone to have a better understanding is better than everyone blatantly loving or hating something.
is this her last few shows?
Was it too expensive to shoot in galapagos? it seems an awesome place to film DW
Clara will be back on episode 9
I really liked this episode, why is everyone being so negative?
It's either because they completely missed the point of Clara's outburst or they've just gone "ha. moon waz an egg. lol"
Seriously, don't listen to the haters.
This episode seems to be the most divisive episode of Doctor Who ever. I've only seen people either giving it a 1/10 or 10/10. Hell, even Love And Monsters and Rings Of Akhaten weren't as divisive as this.
Rings of Akhaten is one of my favorite episodes.
anakinfan12002 I agree. I like Rings Of Akhaten, I was pointing out that it's a divisive episode.
i didn't like this episode, but not because of clara.
I hate when people just describe the show and think that's a valid argument
the space shuttle didn't go to the moon
they need weeping angels bk
Good episode but the end where Clara talks to Danny was kind of stupid.
Bbc when are you going to make a doctor who episode in iceland... I am whating.
I enjoyed this episode but for sure it wasn't my favourite, the whole the moon is an egg thing was a tad wtf but I realised doctor who is one of those shows which can get away with saying something like that but yeah it was good just not oh my god that was amazing which I didn't expect it to be either.
I dont understand why clara was so upset and does anyone else think that that woman astronaut was boring?
I was sitting there wishing she'd just shut up and accept that the doctor trusted her to make a good decision.
Oh yes there is. There are a few lol. Love & Monsters, Fear Her, Idiots Lantern, Victory of the Daleks, Long Game
wildcats8530 I liked Victory of the Daleks for the most part since it introduced the new daleks which look awesome which need to be seen more... as for the others, they are a faded memory which really says they are bad, but they still appeal to some people which is the idea of diversity in Doctor Who.
I am just not a fan of Mark Gatiss' stories. His best one was Robot of Sherwood.
Might just be the worst episode of Doctor Who since NuWho started.
Yeah
Really? This episode was no where near that standard.
Lol it's in the top 30
Jonathan Jmaster i don't think so m8..
***** he already watched it, smartass...
love this episode but woulda been better if they used actual americans to play the americans like they did in the tenth doctor series, still loved it tho :)
The episode felt uncoherent and a bit illogical. Stunning visuals & score and a great and emotional moment at the end with Clara and the Doctor. But I felt the episode as a whole was not as good as the rest of the series 8 episodes.
The best episodes of Doctor who are the ones moffat wrote in the RTD era.
As an animal lover this episode is the worst episode in all of Doctor Who because an innocent giant baby animal....thing was almost killed!
I love Peter Capaldi as the Doctor but these stories really aren't doing him justice. There better be something impressive in the finale or about Missy.... Just saying...
