    This use of ham is perfect for me! I love getting some movement when at a park and then an easy setup and take down.. ideal. Time to learn CW and search for that transmitter.

    I recently built the VK3IL pressure paddle and love it. I'll definitely be going this route with the KH1.

    K4SWL de N6PKT....Thomas. I just heard our contact on this activation. I'm happy to hear (and see) that we all have those moments of difficulty sending and receiving CW. However, in your case you were doing some sort of a juggling act holding the KH1,keying, logging and describing to your viewers important facts. My hats off to you for such an accomplishment. Thanks for the contact and putting the effort into explaining new portable radio equipment to your viewers. Always a pleasure to view your page and hear reviews of new products. All the best, 73 Richard (Smokey) N6PKT

    I find it much easier to operate hand-held if I leave my middle finger in contact with the radio - with this setup, in contact with the bottom right corner of the key. I then just move my index finger and thumb to key. Leaving that finger in contact with the base of the key maintains a tactile feedback element to ensure proper positioning of my keying fingers. I key a lot more consistently this way than I do if I'm just swiping with no constant contact with the radio from the keying hand. Same strategy applies for my rigs with a cap touch key.

    Thank you for another video featuring your KH1! I ordered mine nearly five months ago (After watching some of your first KH1 videos) and I'm still waiting for it. I'll be driving to FDIM next month and I'm hoping to use the KH1 for POTA activations along the way.

    Thanks, Thomas, nice video to watch. My only complaint, and it's definitely me and not you, is that I suffer from some mild to moderate vertigo and some of those fast movements showing the steep angles/drops made me have the internal wiggles for a couple seconds. I can live through it, though! 72 de KA8VLW, Ken, Michigan

      It's funny you mention this. I'm a bit the same way when watching videos. I try to watch my quick movements, but sometimes it's difficult to be that self-aware during the recording. :)

    As much as I wanted (and still want) a KH-1, HRO had the FTDX-10 for $60 more. Looks like I'll be doing more spotting than activating.

      If primarily hunting, the FTDX10 would seem like a great choice if you want a 100W radio. It has a brilliant receiver.

    Sometimes I just can't P. I was working a ten-park rove the other weekend and I could not send P correctly on one contact, having a similar experience you had in this video. It's weird, like the rhythm of the character just slipped out of my brain for a minute.

    very niche product isn't it? seems awkward to use. I guess you could still put it on a table and use it with a normal antenna/paddle but as it is, writing on the left, buttons right next to the paddles, all that while standing? lol you're amazing I don't think I'd try :D Thanks for the video!

    • @ThomasK4SWL
      @ThomasK4SWL  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've been experimenting using the tray on the right and left. I *think* I prefer the right. It's not as hard as it looks if you're not juggling a camera and other things to record the audio of a video. :) It is certainly niche, but can be used handheld or on a tabletop easily.

    I suggest you chat with your friend in OR about QRP viability in the areas you are going. (If you were coming to Seattle, I would tell you to leave the QRP radio at home. One person who operates in southern WA refers to the area as The Pacific Northwest RF Vortex). de AC7PB
