To people that says this is illegal, they argue that the pivot foot was lifted when coach went for the layup. However, after some research, it turns out that the pivot foot can leave the ground, as long as the shot/pass was attempted before it touches the ground again
In high school basketball they have changed the rule so you can’t lift the pivot foot, but in college and pro it’s clean
It’s a travel bacause you moved your pivot food and stepped with your other foot the shot the ball so it you want that move to be good let the ball be released before fore other foot touches the floor other than that it’s a great shot 👊

Nah you're allowed to lift your pivot foot you just can't put it down. That's what 3 steps is a travel cuz that third step is putting your pivot foot back on the ground.

In the third step if you are going to do a lay-up it's ok to lift it cause you are in a dynamic situation; but once you stopped and have done a fake you are not in a dynamic situation anymore and the moment you lift your pivot travel should be called. Yet again, this specific movement is never called because looks could and feels dynamic, but reading the book might still be considered a travel

Nowhere in this does it say you have to be in a dynamic situation
@@MuttonErase yeah but it says "while in the air" too, implying that you are lifting the pivot foot after the other is already in the air (3rd step) or they both leave The floor at the same time normal shot. The moment you lift your pivot while the other foot is still on the floor, the other foot will automatically become your foot, and it will be touching the floor and you will have commited travel, otherwise travel when starting dribbleing wouldn't make sense
@@nicolasflamel292 no. The "in the air" is specifically talking about if you jump while in possession of the ball. Which would also involve lifting your pivot foot.
If you couldn't lift your pivot foot while keeping your other foot on the ground, it would be worded closer to this.
"You may only lift your pivot foot if you jump off both feet at the same time" which is what you're saying. But it doesn't because that's not the rule.

a. A pivot takes place when a player, who is holding the ball, steps once or more
than once in any direction with the same foot, with the other foot (pivot foot) in contact with

b. If the player wishes to dribble after a pivot, the ball must be out of his hand before
the pivot foot is raised off the floor. If the player raises his pivot off the floor, he must pass or
attempt a field goal before the foot is returned to the floor.
If he fails to follow these guidelines, he has committed a traveling violation.
RULE NO. 10: Violations and Penalties

I always thought this was a legal move as long as you jump of 2 feet or just the pivot, but I thought it was a travel if you jump off the non pivot foot and lift the pivot foot.
