I love supermarkets in other countries! It is exciting to see so many Norwegian foods for the first time.
going to the grocery store while traveling is one of my favorite things too!!
I LOVE to visit grocery stores in foreign countries! Also, the ethnic stores here in the USA. The different packaging, products, and smells. It's fascinating to me and such a fun, cultural experience! Thanks for taking us along! 🎉❤😊
When I travel, I love to go to the supermarket to see what is there. Even if I am traveling within the states (US) because in different parts of the country you can find very different products.
When the candy is broken, all the calories escape!
Absolutely loved watching you both on your shopping trip. It really made me smile, Arne is so mischievous, and funny.
😍😍
I really enjoyed the tour of the supermarket. I always find it fun to explore the markets in other countries.
I liked your recycling system for bottles and cans very much! I wish more countries incorporate something similar, it is most efficient! Thank you for a great episode, Arne and Carlos!❤
Carlos that beautiful bright plaid shirt is gorgeous on you! I live in Maine and look forward to these videos all week. So cute to drive up and Arne gets out of the beetle like a sports car driver. 😊🚗
Seeing supermarkets in different places is one of my favorite things. Thank you for this neat video
You are welcome!
Fun! One moment that had me giggling (okay, there were a few giggle-worthy moments). Carlos didn’t want the broken chocolate bar, and Arne tossing that same chocolate bar into the bag, and later needing to pack down the groceries in the bag to make more room. So, inquiring minds want to know … did Carlos’ chocolate bar make it home in one piece? lol
Thanks for the fun episode. Stay well everyone!
I was thinking the same thing 😂
I wondered the same.
I'm with Carlos on that - I always put the broken one back and get another :)
@@ruth1231 I do too! 😂
@@Kathleen. Ha ha. I don't know why but I always do. I'm sure I saw a very, very small smile on Arne's face when he packed the chocolate. It was fleeting but I'm sure it was there.
Isn't it a bit propaganda-like, how we are told plastic shopping bags are bad for the environment but almost everything that comes packaged in a store is in plastic? I mean, yes! Plastic really is bad for the environment, but if we were worried, wouldn't we demand corporations find an alternative to all their plastic packaging?
Very true
It gets complicated when you’re liable for tampering (meds/food).
I wish that some of them would change their packaging. The plastic net bags that oranges come in look like something that would be pretty dangerous for fish, if they get in the water. I've been keeping the net part of the bags to to use inside something, like a blanket but it would be easier if they would just change their packaging.
I reused every plastic bag that came into my house because they were free. Now, in my part of Canada (BC) we don't get any of those plastic shopping bags anymore because they are illegal, so I have to buy kitchen catchers. I used to just have to buy the big garbage bags.
If everyone else had been reusing those bags too then maybe they would have noticed that actually they do break down over time. This whole thing about plastic shopping bags not breaking down is a myth. I used some to store things in and I kept having to replace them because they were breaking down.
I totally agree. This is why I don't buy fruits in the supermarket. I get it delivered by a fruit and vegetable company, no plastic and local.
Thank you! How fun to go through a Norwegian grocery store!!
Thank you for joining us!
Very interesting. Thank you for taking us with you!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for joining!
What a fun trip. Thank you. I am looking forward to seeing how you soften the wraps between damp towels and what you put inside of them.
That was fun - especially the little toy department and Bamsemums!
LOL I always hit like because I know it's going to be a wonderful video!!
Same!
Me too !!!
Me too. I LIKE and then watch😎
you guys are so cute...lol. I love shopping in new places and "shopping" with you two was awesome... love that there is a well stocked flower/gardening centre right next door. Thank you for sharing this adventure...
I feel like A & C are my adorable 3rd & 4th sons.
So much joy in this episode! You always bring up my spirits when I need it. Thank you! ❤
My Norwegian grandma used to make Lefsa as a special treat! This brought back great memories! Thank you❤
Love watching you shop. Great fun . Thank you
I’m a fan of sit and knit for a bit. My grandmother’s family lived in Valdez. I aspire to visit Norway one day, but in the meantime, I love seeing the community. Thank you!
You are welcome, hopefully you can make it one day!
Bamse Mums!! My favorite! Thanks for the lovely walk down memory lane!!!
This was very interesting. To see the kinds of foods you have there.
what a beautiful supermarket - I wish we had a similar one in my town! It would make the dreaded trip much more enjoyable! I love the recycling initiative, too, and having fresh flowers next door is a great treat!
My mom had (and I now have) a recipe for chicken liver pate. She used to make it every fall for US Thanksgiving. It is delicious and now I make it for my family too...yummy!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing some of Norways' special foods. Was interesting to see all the tube foods/ cheese. Love the chocolate bear candy.
The chocolate bears sound like the chocolate covered marshmallow Easter "eggs" we have in the U.S.
What a fun shopping trip. That was so interesting to see the different types of foods available. I love the machine for the plastic bottles.
So fascinating to see what is similar to our grocery stores and what is different! Thanks for sharing a bit of your country with us!
Thank you for watching!
My sons will be visiting Norway next week. I can now share some good information. Thank you!
You are welcome, hopefully they can bring some samples back for you too try!
Thanks for the great little trip to the grocery store. Everyone needs a little chocolate treat. ❤
Well said☺️
Really enjoyed seeing your grocery stores and seeing what you like to buy. Great idea to do this episode.
Great to see where you shop, I really enjoyed it!!! The only refrigerated tube item we have is herbs, my favorite is Basil because I can't seem to grow it
myself...Thanks so much. Love from NC, USA.
So fun to see your grocery store.
Now, we are starving! So fun! Thank you both!
Arne reminds me of my son and makes me laugh! Carlos reminds me of my brother. so I always feel at home with the two of them
Here in MIchigan (US) we have bottle returns like the one in your store. We pay 10 cents a bottle or can which we get back when we recycle. We get a slip with the return amount which we can use to reduce our bill when we pay, or can redeem for cash. Schools and nonprofits collect cans and bottles to raise funds for their activities. And my husband and I love liver pate. We enjoyed your trip to get groceries.
That is very similar to what we to here!
Thanks guys! Love your vlogs & interesting! ❤️🇨🇦
Thank you!
Such Fun ! Love the way you shop no stress. You know what you want an get it. It usually is not that simple for me 😊 Wish. Really enjoyed watching . Would love to watch you shop for outdoor flowers sometime too 😮❤
What fun to go to the supermarket with you both! It's so interesting to see all the goodies that are different than what we have in Southern California. I don't think I've seen such a huge selection of frozen pizzas, but then again, there are at least 3 or 4 pizza restaurants within a 2 to 5 minute drive from my house! And all the food in tubes - I think I would try the cheese & bacon one first. 😁
Norwegians eat a lot of frozen pizzas!
Thank you for a brilliant episode. I look forward to the cooking videos you mentioned.
Wow, a one-stop shopping mart. I love it.
It's like watching a live version of Bert & Ernie from Sesame Street 😂 😂 😂
Takk for showing this! I imagine from Arne’s grinning nods to people out of frame that the locals (lokals?) are amused by your global community anxious to experience your mountain community with you. It’s just a grocery store to them but the second I saw that you were going grocery shopping in rural-ish Norway I was DOWN! Lol I want to shop with Arne and learn about the stuff, how it’s different south from up north where he’s from, and teach some more English because he’s so good and is so comfortable.
When I’ve traveled it’s been the mundane local stuff-just how local people meet the same needs I meet back home in Oklahoma, just configured a little differently-that I love the most. The pride of requesting a product from a display case and the merchant understanding my language attempt is thrilling when “free ranging” away from the multilingual tourist areas. And it’s so fun to see the cultural context of the packaging of many products.
Hi, Arne is from the South of Norway, not the north. He was born at Lillehammer hospital and we live 1 hour west from his birthplace.
Oh Oh ! Arne forgot to get Carlos' favorite chocolate bar when he put back the broken one...I only saw one choc bar rung up lol; I hope you weren't too disappointed, Carlos ! That was fun to see your lovely grocery store/Post Office...but I especially liked the bottle return combination Lottery? Red Cross donation scheme, so Cool !!!
That was fun!
What a great little shopping area - supermarket, wine store, yarn store and a flower place! That covers a lot!
Liquor stores are also government owned in Canada (except maybe in Alberta?) but some low end wine and beer is sold in convenience stores and supermarkets.
Linking recycling to a lottery - genius!
BC has both government and private owned liquor stores. I love the idea of linking the lottery with the returns also!
Interestingly fun video, much I didn’t know about Norway products. Super fun video.
I loved this episode! I also loved the cheese with shrimp in a tube when I was a kid! Such fun!
That was fun. One day I will visit Norway and I will now have more idea about what things are. Many thanks.
Thanks for a wonderful shopping experience.
That was fun. Really enjoyed the recycling. Enjoyed the different foods. Would love to see Carlos's rhubarb recipe. Thank you for doing this episode.
👍🏻
I enjoyed your video. My grandpa came from Norway and I'm always interested in things about Norway . I just discovered your channel and I am now subscribed. It was always my dream to come to Norway but I am now 82 and on oxygen and in a wheelchair when I leave my home so it's impossible to come so I will enjoy Norway through other people's lives. Thank you so much
Welcome to our cannel Judie!
Thank you this was very enjoyable to see shopping in your country. The sweets look sooo good!
They are very tasty
Scoop your own serving of shrimp!!! That one never see in my country. Love the bottle bank lottery
☺️
I like the Pear flavored soda pop, that we enjoyed in Sweden and Norway. ❤. Your ice cream is much more creamy than what we have in the states. Your butter is delicious too! We ate a lot of Hard Tac, flat bread too. You are lucky to have good laws to prevent poisoning you! I wish we had the same laws.
The peachy, orange daisy flower is originally from South Africa and it is called Osteospermum.
Could we please go and see the yarn next time.
In the UK there is no yarn in supermarkets, very few yarn shops.
Thanks for the video.
You are welcome!
In Cincinnati, they have this huge store called Jungle Jim’s that features foods from all over the world! I can spend hours in there. Your tour reminded me of Jungle Jim’s because you find little corner stores that is focused only on one country. They have a florist as you enter and there is a liquor store somewhere. I just love looking at the interesting foods😊
We are glad to read that you enjoyed it!
Very enjoyable! Thanks Arne & Carols. Hope you enjoyed your meal - incuding the choc bears.
It was so fun to shop with you guys! Arne, my dad used to break up regular white bread and put it in a glass of what we call Buttermilk here and he ate it with a spoon. Our buttermilk has a sour taste, so is likely very similar or the same as yours in Norway. I remember it might have been an acquired taste, but really quite yummy. 😋 I have one brother who still carries on that tradition. 😌 I got my very first reusable grocery bag in Norway - that was in about 2007 or 2008. It's my absolutely favourite fabric bag (strong, quality fabric that's also very soft). I now use it to carry precious knitting projects in when I take something out to work on. It also holds my yarn beside me on the couch while I knit on something at home.🥰
That is one long lived grocery bag.
Thank you for letting us shop with you. Love your grocery store
You are welcome!
Just how many different words are there for YUM? This reminds me - I live in the US but my neighborhood has a lunch restaurant that specializes in lefse - yum indeed!
Lucky you❤️
Toodle-oo! This was great fun. I'm so jealous that you can get caviar in a tube! I'm a beginner in learning Norwegian, and it's startling to actually recognize many of the words on packages. Thanks for the tour.
Oops, I just sent a comment, but I should have told you, we live in Las Vegas, NV, so even though it may be 110 degrees outside right now, we do knit! We are at 2000 ft above sea level, so it does get "cold" in the approximately 3 weeks of winter!😊 I absolutely loved your video!!!
And, I know that the rest of my family will really enjoy it also. Take care!
Thank you so much for watching, and that it is very warm. It is impressive that you actually knit in that heat❤️👍🏻
That was fun! And you got the major food groups covered….your sweets, your tube food, your canned children….:yup! Good to go.
I was surprised that the milk was fresh…I’ve spent a lot of time in Sweden and expected to see the same boxed milk that they have there. Foreign supermarkets are endlessly fascinating….so many things you’ve never seen, and then you come upon the KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce! Being from Kansas City, that was a shock!
Thank you for the tour….looking forward to seeing what you do with the stuff you put in the damp towels. ????
I love, love, love the brown cheese! Transports me right back to when i first visited Norway as a 3-year old.
😍
Great fun, always enjoy a foreign supermarket xx
Shopping with you both looks so fun!
Hei Arne and Carlos! When I go to my norsk class, there is always someone who brings some delicous food. Sometimes we have kanelboller or Lefsa or Nidar Smash. Last time we had Bamse Mums and I liked them a lot. At the Norsk Sømanskirke in Hamburg there is a shop where you can buy norsk Food. I think I'll go there on thursday to get some Smash and Bamse Mums. 😊
Smash is delicious, and very popular in Norway.
Thanks for the video, it reminds me couple of years ago when I used to live in Norway. We couldn't live without lømper & ostepølse and of course the tube of mayo because only in Norway the mayo is godt for hjerte 🤩
I agree with Freia salted almonds, the best of the best 😋
😍
Ahhhh….. the famous porridge-gate flat bread with sour milk breakfast!!!!! Best. Episode. Ever.
🤣
Enjoyed this little field trip. ❤😊
I love love love a foreign supermarket xxx
This was a lot of fun for this New Yorker. I saw the Philly Cream Cheese and other US products. Sadly, we seldom get any of your products over here. PS, the flowers you bought are gorgeous!
This is the first of your videos I've ever seen, and I loved it! I'm in the western U.S. near Seattle. Most Grocery stores here are huge, but I prefer smaller chains like Trader Joe's. Your store was fascinating! Being American, all those tubes look like toothpaste to me. I look forward to more of your videos! 🌺
Welclme to our channel Megan!
In the UK, whole milk has a blue label and lid, semi-skimmed is green and skimmed milk is red. Fresh milk is sold from a fridge here, but we can also buy UHT, ultra heat treated, which is shelf stable.
👍🏻
Loved the grocery shopping experience! Thank you for taking us all along ; ) Quick questions 1) is it only self check out? 2) is the grocery store open 7 days a week? 3) what are typical hours of operation. It is fascinating learning about your culture. Thank you ; )
Hi, it is both self service and normal. All shops are closed on Sundays in Norway. There are only very few smaller grocery stores that are allowed to be open on Sundays.
I thought Carlos may have been driving the Beetle today .
Your shops look good. Also like your kitchen.,even though a quick flash.hehe. I like liver pate.
Really fun and interesting video! Thanks Arne & Carlos !
You are welcome!
Great visit, fellows! Loved the supermarket tour. Thanks so much. From Cheryl in AZ, USA
You are welcome Cheryl!
Loved seeing your shopping trip. My stepfather is German, and we live in Canada, so I am very familiar with all the lovely things that you can get in tubes...not to mention all the fish and cheeses. You have more of everything in the regular store, though. We have to go to a specialty store to get such a large selection.
The bottle lottery idea is genius and would never work here. Unless they got AI on the task of limiting it to one transaction per customer. Cruising around doing regular stuff but in a different country is one of my very favorite things, thanks A&C!
Yep! I said the same thing about the lottery option after I realized you got an entry for each "transaction" (ie bottle) if you choose to hit enter after. Can you imagine the lines we'd have here? Oy!
We have chicken and pork liver pate, which I love on toast. I tried the caviar when in Lofoten, not my favourite. I love, love the brown cheese which we can buy here in Adelaide . When you visit us I will take me you to our Central Market which is like no other market you have ever seen😊
Merci pour ce partage . Ça me rappelle mon voyage en Norvège il y a quelques années et le plaisir que j’avais quand j’allais au supermarché 😀🇨🇦
I tried Brunost before I visited Norway and loved it. A local grocery store in Indiana had carried it. Last time I went to look for it they no longer do. I might have drive an hour to Indianapolis, according to Tine’s website there are a few stores there that carry them.
No, Arne...you really don't need anymore dolls, your supermarket looks like a fun store, Norwegian chocolate is the best!
It is delicious!
Such a fun video. O was hoping to see Norwegian bread. Maybe next time
Saturday yum, enjoyed shopping with you 🤗
Thank you!
Wow, that's huge! I live in a big city, and the grocery stores here are that size, and are always so crowded it's hard to get through. It was fun seeing the tube foods, too!
Yay! The buggy is driving well.
👍🏻
Love the way you can buy frozen shrimp! Cheese in a tube is new - especially flavored. The recycle bottle is pretty cool. I am definitely trying brown cheese when we visit Norway in the fall! Great episode as always!
Thank you!!
My Viennese-born mom put brown goats cheese in our
Xmas stocking every year, love!!
This was so interesting!
I loved brown cheese when in your country so yummy I couldn’t resist it. Great when hiking
That was a fun shopping trip. Arne is like a small child in a Lilly shop.
It is like a sweet treat
Thanks! A few things made this American's head explode: sour cream porridge!! Sour milk (is this yogurt?). Caviar in a tube! Wow, you've expanded our horizons in a delightful way. 🤩
Sour milk is similar to buttermilk or kefir.
How fun! You've confirmed once again that I could easily live in Norway! From arriving in your Beetle, to recycling your few bottles at the store(LOVE this and LOVE that you can choose to take the $$ or donate for a chance to win) Lefsa is something that Jen Geigley made on TH-cam from Iowa! I'd love to see your version! Thank you for your gastronomical supermarket tour
Norwegians are so thoughtful & kind to the environment. My country can learn much from Norway.
😍😍
I loved your trip to the grocery store. I wish we had the post office there also. So convenient. I also loved the bottle machine to help the Red Cross or win some $.
😍😍
Loved the episode...could you please show wool shops in Norway also?😊❤
We have done this one: th-cam.com/video/on4KavqQLoo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=LTIHnxoE62ax3TBh
Not every county in Texas allows alcohol sales, but the counties that do (typically, if your's doesn't, the next one over does) allow beer and wine to be sold in the grocery stores, but liquor must be sold in "package liquor" stores. In some states in the US, these are operated by the state government, but in Texas, they are private companies. You can buy the beer and wine at any time the grocery stores are open, expect on Sunday. On Sunday, you have to wait until after 12 Noon. The liquor stores are unable to open on Sunday and they are not allowed to open before 10 AM on other days. As I've gotten older, I'll just pick up some beer at Aldi, if they have the German beer I like in stock, but otherwise, I'm drinking more tea now. It's less complicated.
Where in the U. S. does the state operate liquor stores??
There are 17 states that hold control over alcohol sales, in various degrees. Here’s more information. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic_beverage_control_state
Hey they make is walk by the sweets on the way out in the US too! 😂
They trying to trick us into buying some😂
Its so funny to see you pull up to the grocery store and there's a circle k gas station right behind you i live in the us in wisconsin and i have a brand new circle k within walking distance from my home who new they were over there to.😊 love your videos and your garden is so pretty. Take care Mary
Thank you so much Mary!
How often do you grocery shopping? I would have to be there everyday! 😂
