Just one word: WOW! I can hardly believe that today I'm able to celebrate two milestones at once: my 100th upload at TH-cam as well as reaching 2000 subscribers!
In the last two weeks I worked on a very special track for this unique event. It's a piece that combines two songs that inspired me the most when it comes to 1) making music and 2) composing music in the soundtrack genre.

"Herr Mannelig" is an old Swedish folk ballad that regularly gets covered especially by medieval (rock) and folk bands. Full disclosure now: I absolutely love medieval music. I came across a very special version of the song when I was 12 years old playing the game "Gothic" which is - to this day - one of my (if not THE) favorite games. A german band called "In Extremo" had a special appearance in the game playing their acoustic version of "Herr Mannelig". And they somehow immediately became one of my favorite bands of that time. The music of In Extremo was what brought me to buy a guitar and teach myself how to play. Well, so that can really be called the kick off for my very first steps in making music.
And it's a great transition to the second part of the song. As I said, "Gothic" and it's successors "Gothic II" (+ AddOn) and "Gothic III" shaped my childhood and teenage years - and so did the outstanding score of Kai Rosenkranz. Kai can be named as one of the biggest influences for me when it comes to how I began to write music in the soundtrack genre and so are his beautiful scores.
Maybe you can now imagine why these two musical elements came into my mind as a special release to celebrate both my 100th upload and 2000 subscribers. I really hope you like this one and would appreciate it if you leave some feedback to the track. It is really touching and lives up to In Extremo's legacy. I wish THQ could implement this into their remake.

@Darkstar xD the game's not even oout, the devs specifically said the final release will only bear about 10 percent of similarity to it. Besides, the teaser was not a demo, it was barely a pre-alpha version. Off with your whining.
@@SupremeLeaderKyloRen The remake had a lot of issues, but it did some stuff right. That's to be expected though, since they were specific about this being a rough collection of stuff they had ready at the time, meant specifically to gage what fans think about it and what they need to change. This is probably the best thing that can be done with a remake like that, and I find it very reassuring to know they actually went out of their way to let the community know what they are doing and give it a chance to course correct them before they commit too hard in any particular way. More studios should be doing this, assuming they will actually listen to what people have to say. That is not to say I will blindly trust them and buy the game day 1, I don't do that ever and will not make an exception for this game, but so far they've earned a good chunk of good will from me.
@Darkstar Do you speak german? Because if you are into gothic and follow news about it you should know that "the demo" was a test for players to elaborate how they will continue with developing the game. There are some german interviews where the developers talk about that. So you shouldt (really) not judge based on the "demo". At the moment it's completly different from back then.

Man, you should produce music for games and movies. This was absolutely amazing, I would do anything just to hear a soundtrack like this in new Gothic remake.

the instruments used have a kind of "Witcher" vibe going. i dig it.
Well, Herr Mannelig is originally a folk song and there's definitely a folk spin in the famous In Extremo version, while the Witcher (books, games, series, all the things...) draws heavily on Slavic and Germanic folklore, something the games' soundtracks are obviously influenced by, so it's easy to see how that could be. Also, the Witcher games have been influenced in many ways by Gothic, so the instrumentation of this medley might be a sort of nod to that? Anyway, both series have wonderful tunes!

Hallo Roman Heuser.
Erst einmal möchte ich mich an dieser Stelle für die grandiosen Terranigma Interpretation bedanken. Auf langen Fahrten zu Geschäftsterminen sind sie fester Bestandteil meiner Playlist ^^ Auch diese neue Version von Herr Mannelig ist gut gelungen und wertet das Stück von In Extremo sehr auf. Wenn es so in einem Remaster von Gothic 1 auf der Bühne gespielt würde wäre ich begeistert. Als reines Musikstück finde ich jedoch die Gothic Einspielungen von etwa 4.14 bis 5.35 min zu gewaltig und grell, in etwa so als würde man ein weiches Kerzenlicht erwarten aber eine 120 Watt Glühbirme bekommen (Ja ich weiß, ein schlechter vergleich eines Laien und total meine eigene Meinung. Also bitte nicht schlagen ^^) Dagegen finde ich die ruhige Einspielung von 6.05 - 6.15 min gut und stimmig. Mein Interesse und mein Abo hast du jedenfalls ^^
Hey, vielen Dank für dein Feedback! Toll zu hören, dass dich die Musik sogar privat begleitet! Zu deinem Hinweis bzgl. des Gothic-Themes: das kann ich gut nachvollziehen! Meine Idee war es, das Gothic Theme mal in ein Filmmusik- oder Trailergewand zu stecken und zu schauen wie es klingt. Hier in der TH-cam-Version ist mir aber (vielleicht auf Grund der Kompression) bspw. der Chor etwas zu laut, das klingt in der unkomprimierten Wavedatei etwas anders und stimmiger. Es wird aber sicher nicht die letzte Version des Gothic Themes sein, an der ich arbeite (kleiner Spoiler ;)). Danke jedenfalls für dein ausführliches Feedback!

Die Terranigma-Interpretationen von Roman sind nicht von dieser Welt. Ich bin heute zufällig darüber gestolpert, als ich für mein Terranigma-Retrospektive-Video Inspiration holen wollte. Schande über mein Haupt das ich Romans Arbeit erst Heute entdeckt habe! An dieser Stelle nochmal liebe Grüße an Roman, für diese Wahnsinns-Interpretation zu einem unvergleichlichen Meisterwerk.
