I have a 2011 Jetta TDI so far so good bought with 60000 miles for $12000 July 2015 now has 165000 miles on it only thing that has been replaced is a glow plug dealer replaced it for the bubble Diesel gate got $ 8300 back from VW love the car average is about 43 mpg love your channel keep up the good work
2011 is a good year. But honestly if you dont have a warranty on that CP4 pump you should can it before it fails. My buddies failed at 120k miles Mine failed at 160. but I have heard of guys with less than 100k miles. Cp3 cures the problem and that 2011 will go 400k miles minimum
FYI you guys could see the clutch packaging better than me. Needed my glasses. Called Transpeed. not transend. I could not see it that well in the lighting.
Mike you are like God to us with your resto the results are phenominal Your levell of perfection is astonding All other VW restos and the complaints the restorers make them look lame Love you to death Keep up good work
Mike you have really been through it with this engine swap. I would be livid you are a much more patient man than I am. So I guess when you do the cp3 swap on the VW you don't have to install a tune like you do on the duramax diesel. Thanks for the update.
no tune. it works right out of the box but when I had the other fuel pump hooked up it was spiking fuel rail pressure when I touched the gas and that would spike boost. was like a puff of fuel would go into the system and ramp up the boost then the Fuel pressure regulator would bring it back down. OMG it was over 200hp. I was going 20 or so then it would brake the tires loose in 2nd gear. Not scratch burn out through second then 3rd gear scratch. Super fun but triggered the computer to quit gave me about 3 minutes of fun then the computer would shut it down.
Love the videos, was very useful for my CP3 installation, I am having an issue where with my CP3, the engine surges, and the fuel pressure ranges from 100 bar to 800 bar and can't regulate to the specific pressure.
hmmm weird I would replace the valve and recheck. Contact Stevenson tuning and see if they will send you a metering valve. Probably either wrong tune for the metering valve you have or wrong metering valve.
My son used to work for a bone yard in our area, that engine sat for a long time because they stripped all the useable parts off of it thinking it was seized. Then they realized that it was the trans, and not the engine that was siezed, so they had to put a whole "engine" together when they knew you were coming to buy it. So they stripped those parts off of high mileage engines, and put them on yours. THat's why the pan and valve cover bolts were loose, to check the crank and head to make sure the engine was good. They knew damn well that that trans was siezed and they knew you were coming from far away and couldn't find another engine. I would hope that you got some kind of a rebate on that thing, at least for the trans. That's the kind of BS that pissed off my son, and why he quit working there, they do shady stuff!
His yard specialized in high end late model German/Euro parts, BMW, Merc, VW, Porshe, Volvo. They make so much money on the good used parts, and figure that you are going to strip your engine and use those parts, so they don't care.
Downpipe for sure helps mpg driving ability and power and sound have a cbe with a fl straight pipe not super loud just enough to know and turbo spools up very nice
Hi mike , looks like the differential pressure sensor . have you looked at the live data for the sensor . let us know what the pressures are at idle and wide open throttle thanks
I put the new one in and adapted it. The code did not pop up on that yet. I will check the data. still has the problem feather the pedal then it starts hauling ass. I am talking to someone on TDI club forum. He thought it might be the exhaust flap but I removed the pipe and ran it no changes. I am thinking the intake flap is broken. It is the only part that i havent changed from the new engine.
Unbeleivable I did not think it was savable, Mike is a one off how he just looks at stuff and makes it And then he has such high standards that his work looks concourse I love the guy to death. It has ruined all other VW builds where people make such big issues, over minor repairs. I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN A BETTER RESTORATION VIDEO
they are the worst car to work on. But if you DIY and can do the work. When they are working they are bulletproof. I would not suggest anyone buy one unless you do your own work and can tolerate the problems. They are the same as the old cars. Some things they engineer amazing and some things they poorly engineer. Parts are super expensive too. For the average person I would stay clear. For the Diesel cars you cannot beat the gas mileage. it really beats every car I have ever driven. Performance 10 out of 10. Reparability 1 out of 10. parts cost 9 out of 10. Problematic. 5 out of 10. The engine and transmission BONES are totally bulletproof. But the maintenance is super high cost if you go to get it serviced. Engine and transmission and suspension can last 500k to 1 mill miles. But the parts that connect to it are expensive and hard to replace. and lots to maintain. For the average person Honda or Toyota....and believe it or not GM has stepped up their game on some models...To buy a VW you need to do lots of research and use ALL the German parts Lubricants and get to know ALL the engineering flaws. Join forums. Read. It is tons of work. To most people not worth it.
@@HubertusSchaper in Europe they have a good reputation and they are cheap to fix, but in other places like America they don't have a good name. Of course the VW in America are made in Mexico 😅
Watching this video if the car doesn’t throw a code for that pump not working, maybe that’s the reason for the CP4 failures? Maybe that pump goes bad and starvs the cp4 of fuel this grenadine it?
no not at all. it is a pure design issue. happens on all models using cp4. Ford pickup chevy pickup with cp4 all fail. THere are videos showing the difference. Be sure to look them up. that cam lobe system and roller lifter for the cp4 is a huge fail. twists sideways and fails every time.
no the 73 has a totally different setup. I believe they call those Rhino trans. I am not sure when they did that. Dont remember much on late bay windows.
I dont think it matters. I have been running it this way for 2 years and have no issues. Put a stage 2 malone in it too and it RIPS.....but I did loose some gas mileage for putting the tune in there. Runs a lot better though. My other car I put the same pump in it and did not do the tune. it did not change the mileage and no codes. also running b20 or whatever bio I can and have no issues with that either. I found some 99 renewable fuel run that and no issues like 50c cheaper than regular diesel.
I have a 2014 sportwagen with 168k on it. Im thinking I should do the HPFP before it dies. What is the best forum for these cars? I could figure it out but a write up on the job wouldn't hurt. Wish I had known the HPFP was shit when i did the timing belt since I'll have to get back in there to do it.
TDI club. Stevenson tuning has great info on these. They do the pump kits and I have gotten the best help from them. Yea cp4 is a ticking time bomb. total crap design. Even Chevy dropped Bosch and went to denso because they are still selling these snake oil pumps. Bosch wont admit it is an issue. Ford.....uhhh they still use bosch I wont buy a ford diesel. just had a buddy who got the 13k bill for the faulty pump. somehow they convinced the insurance to cover it saying it was bad fuel. but that was a total lie. They do make a screen that you can put on the high pressure side that is suppose to work. but once you go cp3....I am using bio fuel which in CA has less tax. so it saves me money at the pump.
@Mikefngarage Thanks man, I gathered that my particular pump is an updated version from the really shitty ones. I was gonna push it to next timing belt job but do you think thats asking for it?
stevenson tuning has the bracket kit and they will give you a pump number. they used to sell the whole kit contact them. they are the most helpful on these.
I am not sure the number but the metering valve is really important to get the right one. These guys have the cheapest good kit. stevensontuning.com/product/cjaa-cp3-pump-conversion-kit/ . you also need the mounting bracket, and the conversion parts as well all in there. You can run it with full delete or bend the fuel line for full smog. I have stage 2 malone. RIPS...
urhgh kill it , kill it with fire !!!! stupid cp4! People know how much i despite this POS from my videos lol. This car is the best fwd drive you can get now. 2.0 common rail with cp3 thats such a great combo with the automatic dsg trans. i like the audi a8 /s8 too much else thats what id run.
