  • This vision has been in my head since I first stepped foot into the Kitchenette of the Airbnb. I am excited to show you the almost final result of the kitchen countertop! The herringbone pattern is no joke and was definitely a tedious undertaking but it was well worth the end result! Let me know what you think! Thanks for watching!

      Love the herringbone pattern.
Just a thought, how about using the herringbone pattern throughout the bnb as well as the colour choice? You have the herringbone wall hooks for the hallway so how about laying the sunroom floor with a herringbone pattern and using it on the bedroom feature wall (perhaps not the complete wall but partially) and perhaps somewhere on the stairs maybe in wall decoration or artwork.

After cleaning, the drain part of the sink looks almost rose gold/copper and I was wondering if it might look really cool to spray paint that metal edge banding to match before reinstalling it and possibly find or paint the faucet to match as well? Those colors seem like they’d really compliment the wood tone.

I had a terrible time with my bathtub when I moved into my 1930 home. There was an excessive amount of calcium build-up. I started with BKF soft scrub then the powder, White vinegar, baking soda, then I remembered a trick using Mt Dew. I let it soak for 20 minutes and I saw large clumps of calcium float up. I still had a ring where the soda couldn't reach, and no amount of scrubbing would take it off. I thought I would have to live with it until I discovered Zep Toilet Cleaner that has an acid base and clings to the surface. I was so impressed that I have become a ZEP full-time user.

Looks nice, but I doubt it will last with only poly. You really need to put something like a marine grade epoxy resin in an area where guests will be using water. The fact that you put water-based poly on will complicate using the resin. You will need to do extra surface prep to be sure you will get good adhesion between the poly and the resin, otherwise the resin will chip off.

Looks great! This being a rental space, you need to consider something a bit more durable to seal it with. I don’t think that poly is going to cut it. Unfortunately rental spaces take a bit of a beating, and that was a lot of work. I can just see someone spilling their spaghetti sauce on that, and ruining it. 😩. Great idea, and execution, you don’t want all your hard work ruined.

  • @DollhouseTutorials
    @DollhouseTutorials 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

This was such a great idea and it turned out looking amazing. I use these paint sticks often when I'm making dollhouse furniture and the one thing that helps me keep them all the right length size is by clamping a small piece of wood to the right side of the saw. This allows me to cut each piece the same size. I cut one butted up next to the clamped wood then each piece after the first piece goes butted up next to the same clamped wood making all the cuts will be exactly the same length. When my dad was alive he use to call this a stop block which ultimately makes all your cuts the same size in length. Just be sure you if you try this to cut slower to avoid the wood from kicking back or clamp a top wood guard on top of where the paint sticks slide over to the stop block wood.

It looks like you are using Gorilla Wood Glue. If so, it won't stick to laminate or painted surfaces. It's also not recommended for area with continual water exposure. If that is the glue you used, I'm afraid the wood is just going to pop up no matter what you do. Also if it's not Gorilla Wood Glue and it is made to stick to laminate, I would have sanded the top first to rough it up.

It’s a really good solution with the constraints you have. It adds a classic, stylish look without being heavy. The natural color keeps the kitchen feeling bright.

What a neat idea for a countertop. Your hardwork has paid off. It looks awesome. I can't wait to see it all put back together with the painted cabinets.

to keep spray cleaners from drying up/evaporating: 1. spray onto surface 2. cover with plastic wrap so cleaner will stay wet and keep working. 3. Remove wrap and discard. MAKE SURE CLEANER WILL NOT DAMAGE SURFACE!!!

This was a truly remarkable do-over. The counter top is just fantastic. Lots of work involved but well worth your time & energy. I really appreciate your work on the sink-to keep it in place & out of the land fill!

The counter top looks great and it's good you managed to clean up the original sink as it keeps more of the overall vintage character of the kitchen.

oh my goodness, so pretty! I'd be really interested in how this is holding up 2 years on. I doubt it would have been a problem, but I'd just be so interested. I'm redoing a 1950's kitchen and trying to keep and recycle whatever I can. Thank you so much for the ideas! :)

Don’t know if anyone has mentioned the mixture on tik tok that went viral to clean tubs and sinks. I believe it is a 50/50 blend of baking soda and volume 40 creme developer for coloring hair...I know MR KATE has a video on it..supposedly it REALLY WORKS..!!!!

  • @christinechin1909

To be honest I was saying Noooooo at the beginning of the video, mainly because of the practicality of wood around a sink area (have experienced mold, etc), & how the small bits might come out over time. Buuuut, it turned out SO GOOD & SO BEAUTIFUL you changed my mind! I guess if the top coat really does it’s job, there won’t be a problem. Loved the DIY sawdust filler! I can only guess how expensive such a herringbone countertop would cost to buy!!!! 💰 💸 💰 $1,000 maybe? Awesome job Lauren 😎 👍 👏

I literally loved this idea!!! I’ve been searching butcher block countertops for my townhouse without ripping it all out! It was built 1972 so it would be a bit much. But this solved everything! My kitchen floor I did the peel and stick marble in herringbone pattern so when I seen the first pack of sticks I’m like I’m all in! Thank you so much for all your content. I love your channel! ❤

Trying hard not to be debbie-downer but, arn't stir sticks REALLY soft wood...like put your fingernail in and you have a dent? Also, you CAN change out just the H/C handles...

Wow I love this! Ultimate diy done beautifully!!! You've got me thinking... don't know if I have the patience to do the herringbone, but maybe standard butcher block? Thanks for sharing❣️
