Just bought one of these as my first bike. I love almost everything about it. Super easy to learn on. I got comfortable on it in two days. I love everything other than the mirrors. I can’t see much behind me. But I’m also fat. So there’s that.
I've had this bike for 11 years. Even with a gsxr600, fz1 and triumph trophy se; I love my fz6r in my stable yet. Gets great mpg for commuting to work and errands. Flicks into the corner and brakes good. The bike you ride was obviously used because it has clip is instead of the stock handlebar. Previous owner probably screwed up the brakes with bad bleeding and didn't get the geometry right. Granted it's not a race pony, but it's comfortable for just riding around.
I think it's funny how some people think they've outgrown their bikes simply because they reach its top speed in a consistent basis. I personally think you don't outgrow a bike until you can put your knee down on every corner. Then, and only then, do you get the privilege to say you've outgrown it. Otherwise, you're just another guy who got bored and wanted something faster (and that's okay, just don't say you outgrew it).
Still true 7 years later. They didn’t outgrow the bike lmfao, they just want something faster. Motorcyclists at the professional level still ride 300cc bikes
It has nothing to do with dragging knee. Now that being said that does require a great amount of skill and time learning your specific bike. I'm am NOT saying ur wrong necessarily. But saying you have outgrown a bike totally depends on what you're doing with it. If you plan on mounting riding and track riding then yes or more so. But if all you care about is how fast you can go in a straight line then that has absolutely nothing to do with it
This bike seems to have the perfect amount of power and also a great chassis, I just sold my 2016 Suzuki GSX s1000f, because when I rode it, it felt like holding a lit stick of dynamite.
Your review is pretty spot on. I bought a 2012 FZ6R as my first bike and use it mainly for commuting back and forth to work (80mi/day). After a while I lowered the front a couple inches to give it more lean, I guess you'd say, which made it more comfortable to handle. I also swapped out the air filter to K&N and did the "airbox mod", which gave it a little more response. It's a blast to ride now because I can tuck and go fast (to me lol) or sit up and relax.
From experience with mine. The handling is amazing with the woodcraft clip ons. Ya its lower on the front end if you dont lower the back too but only by about an inch.
I got one of these as my first street bike. Great bike. Rode it an hour to work and didn't have any complaints. Comfy, smooth, fast enough to have some fun, and gets more attention than anything else I've ridden or driven. Eyeing up a gsxr600 as my next bike but highly recommend the for for a starter bike.
Just bought my first bike yesterday. I started watching your videos a couple weeks ago, with the quarry videos with you and yummy, and then noticed you did a review about the fz6r and was really impressed about it. Now I own a 2013 fz6r and couldn't be happier. Thanks
I honestly doubt you're going to acknowledge this comment but I just wanted to inform you that I have been a subscriber to your channel for years and i am constantly watching your videos, with that said I just want to thank you for all the reviews you've done, how descriptive you are and congratulate you on being a very entertaining rider to listen to and ride with. Thank you for doing what you do, I always keep your videos near when looking to buy a new bike so thanks for being all types of informative. Anyways, if you read this, have a good day and keep up the good work my dude ✊🏽
I just traded in my R3 for the FZ6R and absolutely love it. The R3 was fun but the riding position got old fast. I find the FZ6R to be a lot more comfortable and fun. The HP is great and the bike flicks nicely. I would recommend it to anyone
@@hakualex I also traded in my R3 for a FZ6R and I would say it's a better bike for daily commuting in every way. Accelerates faster, more stable in higher speeds, handles well.
I got one too, have an hour commute to work. Perfect bike for someone who wants something comfortable but also has the looks and sounds of a 600cc sport bike.
As I'm researching for my second bike, my instinctive thoughts are actually 'fuck, i hope chaseontwowheels did a first ride for this'.....keep up the good work, these go a long way!
I felt the same way about the CBR650f. You really hit the nail on the head with this review. I think if they kept the price point the same but squeezed a little more power out of it, it would be a home run.
***** I rode the FZ6R for roughly a year, it was my first bike and I have to say I absolutely loved it. I purchased it for commuting to work and didn't want a naked bike. My riding instructor for my MSF class suggested this bike as well for a starter bike and I have to say I'm incredibly happy I followed the suggestions. I'll be looking at a new bike in the near future but this bike certainly helped me get a good riding foundation.
Chase this was a horribly uninformed review. It should be deleted entirely and replaced with a real FZ6R not some frankenstein bike with craigslist clip-ons and terrible mods. Everyone makes mistakes and this is one of yours for not doing your research. Oh well no ones perfect.
I purchased a fz6r as my starter bike and it is still stock. I weigh 195 and on the highway I was able to get it to 136 and I wasn't close to red lining. this bike is all around perfect for the cost and will not let you down.
Josh Neffvs what year is your bike? I've got an 09 fz6r but it's got full two brothers headers and exhaust, a fuel controller( similar idea to a power commander) yet I was still only able to get to 133mph red line. maybe you were going down a hill ? 😉
I have a 2011 fz6r raven, full two brothers exhaust, two bros juice box, k&n high flow air filter, and "air box mod" also.... fastest I've got the speedo to show was 140mph i believe. I don't think that's really accurate tho cuz the speedos on these bikes are known to be off from factory.
So, ***** , when would you recommend the sv 650 as a starter bike? Because this bike and the fz 07 is a little out of my price range. Or is there another bike you would recommend for a starter bike that has a low used price tag but still looks good & sporty? Thanks!!
I have owned this bike for two years and absolutely love it. Handles great with plenty of power. I have been riding for over 40 years and this is the best all round bike in this 600cc range I have ever owned. I don't think his bike was running 100 percent or he would have been more positive on his review of the power.
@@doylee469 bro...if you are going to spit facts, get them straight. Its 77 hp. Its detuned from its lineage and weighs 80 plus pounds extra in its 600cc class. Is it a slouch? No. Is it a hell demon? No. It's a good 600cc bike for people that like balance. You are a noob and it shows
This bike is for people who want a mellow bike, quiet exhaust that won't ruin your hearing. Its has a great sound to it you can hear the pistons spinning like a jet turbine. I have this and can ride for hours in comfort and good power.
I forget who it was but who ever says "You might as well be called AdvertiseonTwoWheels" ... Don't listen to them, I think it's great that you get to be able to so many reviews! Good job and keep the great videos flowing!
To bangyahead1 I have the R3 and had the 6R. The 6R has a great motor, one of the smoothest around. The bike does lack a bit of " soul" since its so smooth. The R3 is more fun since going 70mph on a small bike feels faster than 70mph if you know what I mean. I have no regrets about switching bikes and having a R3 now, its much lighter and more practical bike for everyday commute etc.
Been watching you for a while, just moved to the area from Hawaii and found your review for the FZ6r because I'm researching for my next bike (left my CBR600rr in hawaii). Good video!
After watching this video I ended up getting the FZ6R for my first bike and I am in love with the thing. Your review is really what sold me on it, thanks Chase.
after seeing your video of this First Ride i went and got one and love it to bits thanks for the video and for the rest of the videos you do for all of us :)
+Preston Johnson I have a 2013 fz6r, and i absolutely love it. I only have one complaint and that is the look of the mirrors. Cant seem to find a decent looking mirrors for it.
So true.... the weight can be a major downside, but i also do believe it has it's pros as well like being a lil more stable and solid on the highway with those windy days.
I just got this for my first bike, it was a great choice besides the insurance, take my advice, go to statefarm everyone else was asking pretty much double the price for full coverage because they couldnt wrap their heads around a bike being 600cc and not being an SS.
Same here... I bought a low mileage used 2011 FZ6R (1869mi) for a good deal and the insurance rates with State Farm (family multicar policy) made it a no BRAINER! Mtn. Motorsports SOLD one from under me... So I went across town to their competitor WOW Mororcycles 🙊
This bike is actually extremely flickable from my experience once you do some minor suspension work. I think the reason it doesnt feel like that to this guy is because they had to lower the front end for the clip on handlebars but didnt even it out by lowering the back end along with it.
had an FZ6R as my first sport bike (started riding on a sportster 1200) and can remember watching your old videos Chase (learning how to turn my bike around on the kick stand and stuff like that) and it was great little bike to learn how to ride on. comfortable upright seating position, a good amount of controllable power. Just wanted something a little quicker and sportier, which is why I traded my FZ6R for my CBR600RR
I actually own an fz6r that I picked up at M. Motorsports in Lithia Springs this year. My second bike after a ninja 250, been riding 5 yrs. While having never ridden a super sport I must say this bike absolutely shreds in the mountains aaaand rides easy for hundreds of miles on end. Its all in the setup, move bar risers forward, put on some steep dual compound tires, double down shift, keep it above 8,000. However I do want something LIGHTER!
I went from a kawasaki klr650 (enduro) as a starter bike, to an FZ6R that I still own after 2 years. Quick summary: as a tall, 200lb dude, this bike's power absolutely surprised me (having not ridden a supersport before). Did I get used to the power? Yes. Do I wish I had more now that I've owned it for awhile? Yea, but its not necessary for my type of riding. This bike is a LOT more comfortable for a tall gent than an R6 (which I've since ridden for a short period after getting my FZ6R) and is better for long rides. The seat gets to be a bit uncomfortable because you are in a more upright position, so most of the weight is on your butt, compared to half arms and half butt on a supersport. I've done some medium mountain riding with it and have no complaints. But, as an entrance into the sport/supersport world of riding, I give it a 9/10.
I also bought it used ('09) from a dealer with 7k miles on it, and the dealer had made it look 100% brand new. Since they havent changed it since '09, you can say its a 2014, and no one could tell the wiser. I bought it for $5200, with the rediculous 9% NY state tax. Compare that to $11k for a new R6, or about $7-8k for an 09 used.
cgrif81543432 NY is hell of expensive. I live in Seattle, I just got a new 13 one for 5575.00 all fees just pay tax, lic,doc fee. They are cleaning them out at name your price.
I bought a 2012 FZ6R on 7/22/16, I've rode the thing almost everyday, I absolutely am in love with this bike, it's my first "sport" like bike. I live in WV, so it's all mountains here and the bike does really well, it's smooth as Chase was saying, plenty of power to get up and go if needed, nothing compared statistically to the R6. but starting out this is a great great bike.
I had an fz6r for 3 years before going to a 2011 gsxr 600. The fz6r is a great bike for beginners and people who dont want their backs to hurt on a 6-8 hour run. Despite its shortcomings, it will get down on some back roads once you get used to it. Is it nimble? No. Can you do some high speed fun and toss it around once you get used to it? Absolutely. At the end of the day i'm so glad I had this bike and actually wish I would have kept it as a second bike. Especially for long runs with a passenger (you should listen to my wife complain). To those new riders thinking a 600 superbike like the r6, 636, gsxr600, etc... is a good first bike, seriously reconsider. This bike has plenty of power and challenges your growing skills more than you would think without endangering you with odd power delivery (it has the most linear power band ever!). For the price point you couldn't ask for much more.
I have a 2011 gsxr600 which is still the current model being sold. Its the most comfortable 600 super out there in my opinion. Anyone who tells you an r6 is comfortable is insane. That being said, these bikes are built for track performance and not on road comfort. I've done four hours and it sucks. It will suck on any sport bike. The key is take breaks and stretch out and if you can afford to buy a good gel seat, do it. I will leave you with a word of caution. Keep in mind any 600 superbike has 3 times the power of that 250 and you need to take it slow when you first get one. The 2011-current have a "a" and "b" mode. "B" mode is about half power and can really help you get used to the bike without scaring you stupid.
Thanks for this video man. I've been looking for a starter bike and I don't want 300cc and get tired of it in two months. I've been looking at this bike and it was great help thanks man!!
You are way off talking about not doing the twisties on this bike. Look at some of the reviews by the pros, like the one on youtube on mid-bike shootouts. The pros LOVE the way this bike performs on twisting roads. You are way off on this review. None of the pros complained about the power or the way the hands were positioned. Fail.
+Ron Really I feel like Chase didn't have much enthusiasm for this bike before he started the ride. He sounds more bored than usual, and I think that affected his outlook on it. I think he had a pre-formed opinion of the bike.
I've been looking at bikes a lot lately trying to pick out my starter bike. I've been looking at the fz6 but this video helped out. I need to find one to go sit on. Thanks man keep doing your thing
My dad has been riding since the 1970s and used to ride cafe racer style bikes back in the day. He gave it up when I was a little kid and bought himself a cruiser a few years ago. Now he is looking to transition from cruisers to sportbikes but doesn't want to go to something as extreme as a full on supersport. He sat on one of these at a dealer and liked the way it felt. Would you say its a good choice for someone looking to transition from cruisers to sportbikes but doesn't wanna go extreme?
Thanks for your perspective. I'm not close to purchasing my first bike anytime soon but this is the type of starter bike that seems worthy of my investment.
I have owned 2 of these a fz6 and a fz6r, and I can tell you I loved both. Solid engine solid transmission no problems out of them. Affordable not a supersport but quick. good on gas this bike will serve its owner well. Put a lot of miles on both of mine, no regrets.
I have an 09 fz6r and it's perfect for me I'm only 5'7 with an inseam of 29" I lowered it 2". 09's has a little more power then 2014. I've been riding 6 years now and enjoy every minute riding.
Been loving these bike reviews you've been able to do man, hope they keep throwin bikes at you to test ride that'd be awesome! This may sound kinda dumb but I think it'd be awesome if you did a video just like this for Holly. Obviously we've heard you talk about R6's a lot as you've had several now but if you did a video like this where you gave your thoughts on an R6 as if it were the first time you rode one that'd be neat. Best Regards, YZF-RSEX
Im doing research now to buy my first bike. Your videos have been the best reviews Ive seen yet. Im leaning more towards the Ninja 300. Thanks for your videos!!!
+Brandon Aubrey I was so close to buying a 300 until I saw freeway/highway reviews. gets boring very quick because of the lack of power is what they say. Now im leaning more toward this or a ninja 500
My 2012 FZ6R is my first bike and my current ride. I've had it for 2 years now and must say I absolutely love it. Detuned R6 engine is awesome. Plus the bike is very comfortable. Admittedly, not the the most beautiful bike though.
I've had this bike for a couple of years (13000KM on it) now and I can tell you this bike is built like a tank and weighs like one too. if you are a beginner and plan on stepping up to a super sport, i would recommend ktm390 instead though. fz6r ergonomics are pretty much of a typical sport tourer (1000mile road trip in 2 days and i was quite comfortable the whole way). my 2 cents y'all
Wassup Chase! You're right about the FZ6R being a good beginner bike. I've had mine for 2.5 years now, and I still love it for what it is...a good all-around bike. It's sporty enough for the twisties, yet comfy enough for daily commuting. However, it is down on power which is the primary reason for wanting to upgrade. Btw, I have enjoyed your vids for a while now. You, along with others, inspired me to motovlog as well. Keep up the good work.
Funny, I had a similar opinion of this bike when I rode it. I rode it for the first time at a motorcycle show as a demo bike. at the time I liked it and had only ridden for a few months. (My actual first bike was a 620 Multistrada... not a good first bike because it's too tall and the throttle is sensitive.) I actually recommended the FZ6R to a friend who ended up buying it. I rode it home for her because she hadn't ridden much at that point. Fast forward a year and I have gotten an FZ 09 and one day we decided to swap bikes for a ride up some hills. I found out that the FZ6R felt soft as you described and very very underpowered.... I would feel stuck behind cars unable to do anything about it.
I totally disagree... the fz6r has more than adequate power for the streets and can even beat most cars on the highway as well.... put a full exhaust system with a fuel controller/tune and you'll get even more top end!! The Yamaha fz6r has roughly 70 - 75 horsepower... you can't tell me that is a slow motorcycle.
i test rode one last year in november at the motorcycle show and absolutely loved it! the only reason i didn't buy one is because i found an older FZ1 i could afford first.
Just so you know, that FZ6R you rode is not factory, they come with 7/8" clamp on bars, not the clip on's you tested which may be why you felt stretched when you first started riding it.
that beeping is the jog dial of your 20S turning because its hutting your shoulder when you turn your head.. lol.. mine was doing the same thing.. just moved it.. I like the FZ6R looks, but the seating position and handlebar make me think it would be too upright.. great to see you doing bike ride reviews... like them a lot.
I love this bike, im no beginner but i still think its perfect for almost anything. I honestly think the ninja 300 is great for almost anything also, xcep its too light to travel in wind, and barely any passing power on highways. Its all perspective. Just dont expect takeoffs and top speed of the r6 and you cant be dissappointed
I've had my FZ6R for a little over 2 years now and I'm glad I picked it up as my first bike. It's a wonderful bike, and like all bikes, it'll take care of you if you take care of it. The stock model is great but the uber mirrors look extremely tacky, and the stock exhaust is extremely quiet. And in order to replace the stock exhaust, you have to buy an entire set-up of headers, midpipe and slip-on as all three of those parts are welded to eachother on the stock exhaust. The gearbox feels very second-hand and also feels a bit clunky. Other than that, I'd say it is a great starter bike and cannot recommend it more.
the first bike I had bought.. was an 06 CBR F4I. I guess the same thing as the FZ6R. Sport touring. definitely a good starter bike. I hate seeing people say to start on like.. a 250.. when you really don't have to. I had never even sat on a bike before and I bought my CBR and did perfectly fine. But I guess to each his own.
THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW!!! This does sound like what I want even though it's "soft". I want a sport bike but not a super sport and although I plan on going to back roads or mountain roads but I don't plan on doing 130 lol I just want to ride and look good doing it
Some riders like myself are looking for a light touring bike that is easy to ride with out drama. Would this be a good candidate? I've been riding for over 40 yrs. and own a Street Triple ( which would be grate for this purpose if it were fitted with a fairing). I also own a Harley Street Glide that is perfect for touring long distances but a little too heavy for short two day trips. I also own my '12 Bonnieville but still doesn't have a full fairing and would look ridiculous with one.
Chase...really appreciate the videos. I've been watching for a couple years now. I have an opportunity to buy a trustworthy coworkers 2009 FZ6R. It has 16,000km (from Vancouver, BC) but no ABS. I have zero riding experience besides the week long training and a day ride. What do ya think? If it had ABS then it's a no brainer right? Hard to say but I might go for it anyways. Keep up the great videos. Cheers
Miss old original vids lol dont have time to watch youtube as much and your vids are so long now lol not bitchin glad your still makin them i came when you were still goin crazy on the r6 its cool you matured. Man i havent at all lol got rid of my r6 for an r1 last summer. Lol its fun
You hit the nail on the head, YOU WILL OUT GROW A 250, it may take 1 week or 1 year. In my case I out grew my 250 in 3 days and I was sick of it. I'm a pretty short fat guy 5'11 220lbs. I rode 211 miles and all I thought of was something bigger. So find somebody who has a 250 and ride it and see if you think you will out grow it fast. Save your self money.
An experienced rider would thrash a so-so R6. If I held onto that for five years, it would be very close to an R6 when I was done...lol. It's derived from the old R6 engine, so plenty of upgrades available. That's how I bling, by smoking yet behind...lol.
My main issue with Japanese bike "I own a r1 so calm down, i know im being a hypocrite" is the 1000 pissed off crickets in the crank case noise. It is a very distracting noise.
Sounds like a win. Im just looking for something to cruise around on. Started on 250/300 then moved on to R1S. Now i just wanna ride around for fun. Looking for style, a lil power and comfort. Thx
Chase I want your opinion, I just got my license but prior to getting it. I rode on my friends gsxr600 for practice, and now I'm going to get my first bike. Since I had experience on intermediate bikes, I was thinking for price range getting the cbr650f or the fz6r. Would the cbr650f be a better choice or the fz6r?
SV650S is a great starter bike. it's the one I got and I absolutely love it. Flicks around easily, has power when you need it, feels great too! Only downside : Suspension is a bit meh and no gear indicator. I often look for 7th gear when on the highway. haha!
CanadianBiker Happens to me all the time. Because the SV650 has so much torque and the V-Twin engine is great for shifting in the low revs. So, when I've hit 80kph I'll usually be shifting to 6th gear and cruising around from there. And at some point around 6-7k I'll start looking for 7th gear :P But it's an amazingly great bike. I can not say enough good things about it.
I refuse to accept this last comment. *****. I started on an SV650 after 5 months of not riding and having only done a basic riders class. It is torquey in the low rev range, but its FULLY controllable with a steady wrist. (only jittery in first gear). It's easy to get over this problem by releasing the clutch slowly. I haven't had any problems yet with this bike. Even as a new rider.
Hi Chase I'm looking to buy a new 2014-2015 motorcycle this spring. I was really considering an FZR6 or a YZF-R3 but upon researching bikes I stumbled upon your FZ-07 video and now I can't decide. You're enthusiasm while riding the FZ-07 really intrigued me and I loved the sound of that bike. Very quiet. And it is very light weight too. However, I really wanted a bike with at least a partial fairing and windshield and also an inline-four engine.(I'm aware the R3 has an inline two.) Another rider on the FZ-07 noted that it vibrated quite a bit, would you agree? I'm looking for a smoother ride. It'd be awesome if you could do a video ride on an R3 and compare your thoughts to the ninja 300, which looked way too slow for my tastes. But they are classifying the R3 as a super sport. Is it a true super sport? The reason I was considering the R3 is because I want to have something to learn wheelies on, but I suppose I could find a cheaper used bike for that. I have about four months of riding experience on my first and only bike, a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr 750. I don't plan on doing a lot of highway riding but to have that option would be nice. I did do a 90 mile highway ride once and was burnt out by the end of it.(no fairing or windshield on the Zephyr) I'm just more looking to ride around town an be a hooligan, so to speak. I'd love to have an R6 or a 600RR but they are so expensive. I realize I don't have much riding experience but how do you feel about me on one of these considering my riding history? Also I'd like to hear your thoughts on an R6 vs a 600RR. I know you love your R6. Thanks!
I still have mine looks better than when I picked it up made it to a street fighter very good for long trips but plan to keep it and pick up a super sport next but want it new
Just bought one of these as my first bike. I love almost everything about it. Super easy to learn on. I got comfortable on it in two days. I love everything other than the mirrors. I can’t see much behind me. But I’m also fat. So there’s that.
😆😆
When you get to my age (84) your bike outgrows you 😁
I've had this bike for 11 years.
Hacky right!!
Exactly
Still true 7 years later. They didn’t outgrow the bike lmfao, they just want something faster. Motorcyclists at the professional level still ride 300cc bikes
Yeah man I’m totally dragging knee on my xt225 lol
It has nothing to do with dragging knee. Now that being said that does require a great amount of skill and time learning your specific bike. I'm am NOT saying ur wrong necessarily. But saying you have outgrown a bike totally depends on what you're doing with it. If you plan on mounting riding and track riding then yes or more so.
That FZ is lowered with woodcraft clipons, it's going to handle different from stock
The wood craft clip ons are the handlebars right? Because i was wondering why they are different from any other 6r that i have seen just wondering???
From experience with mine. The handling is amazing with the woodcraft clip ons. Ya its lower on the front end if you dont lower the back too but only by about an inch.
I got one of these as my first street bike. Great bike. Rode it an hour to work and didn't have any complaints. Comfy, smooth, fast enough to have some fun, and gets more attention than anything else I've ridden or driven. Eyeing up a gsxr600 as my next bike but highly recommend the for for a starter bike.

You'd be surprised what comments I see. ;) Thanks for the kind words Jeremy!
No problem man. Because of you I just bought an R6. Good stuff brother!
let me please join to your kind words and say the same.
i really love this guy and the way he explains everything.

I just traded in my R3 for the FZ6R and absolutely love it. The R3 was fun but the riding position got old fast. I find the FZ6R to be a lot more comfortable and fun. The HP is great and the bike flicks nicely. I would recommend it to anyone
Leondra Marr does it accelerate faster?
@@hakualex I also traded in my R3 for a FZ6R and I would say it's a better bike for daily commuting in every way. Accelerates faster, more stable in higher speeds, handles well.
Had my fz6r for a year and a half now. It is my first bike and I love it. Had to change some things on it but for a beginner it was a great start.
Awesome Review, I got this bike about a month and a half ago. Its solid! I use to commute 50 miles to work and It feels great, super comfortable.
I got one too, have an hour commute to work. Perfect bike for someone who wants something comfortable but also has the looks and sounds of a 600cc sport bike.
I just bought a Fz6r last week, it's amazing!
7:12 - "driving on the streets on a motorcycle is totally different from driving a motorcycle on the streets"
:D
As I'm researching for my second bike, my instinctive thoughts are actually 'fuck, i hope chaseontwowheels did a first ride for this'.....keep up the good work, these go a long way!
this bike is great I got a 2015 one like 3 weeks ago
I felt the same way about the CBR650f. You really hit the nail on the head with this review. I think if they kept the price point the same but squeezed a little more power out of it, it would be a home run.
It exists its called a Yamaha FZ6
Fz6 is way better
***** I rode the FZ6R for roughly a year, it was my first bike and I have to say I absolutely loved it. I purchased it for commuting to work and didn't want a naked bike. My riding instructor for my MSF class suggested this bike as well for a starter bike and I have to say I'm incredibly happy I followed the suggestions. I'll be looking at a new bike in the near future but this bike certainly helped me get a good riding foundation.
the FZ6R is a great bike. Started on that myself and i still miss it, All around great bike and good fun.
Don't agree with this bike not being for exp riders. I have had many bikes, this one can do it all for a low price and the exhaust so sexy even stock.
Yea he said this won't go 130 I beg to differ it will I know for sure
@@stotzmitchell yea they will go faster than 130
The buke has a slower quarter then a ninja 650.. lol the things super slow.. my full suze cruiser is faster.. jeeez
the bars aren't stock
I had this bike for two years, its amazing. it does go up to 130mph by the way...top speed.
Valtronas haha was gonna say the same thing I've had my fz6r for some time now and she won't go past 133mph 😂
That's probably as fast as you'd ever need or ever want to go on, on a death machine you have zero protection on.
....On pulbic roads
I'm pretty light and I've had my '13 up to 141.
@Edward Tech 2 what upgrades
Its got 65 horse dude.. a 600 usually has closer to 110.. he was spot on, the bikes slow as hell.
I had ridden a Triumph 750 Bonneville, and this FZ6R is every bit as good. The maintenance is far superior.
I forget who it was but who ever says "You might as well be called AdvertiseonTwoWheels" ... Don't listen to them, I think it's great that you get to be able to so many reviews! Good job and keep the great videos flowing!
just got the fz6r yesterday I love it its my first bike so happy
To bangyahead1
I have the R3 and had the 6R. The 6R has a great motor, one of the smoothest around. The bike does lack a bit of " soul" since its so smooth.
The R3 is more fun since going 70mph on a small bike feels faster than 70mph if you know what I mean. I have no regrets about switching bikes and having a R3 now, its much lighter and more practical bike for everyday commute etc.
the FZ6R is an awesome bike . the clip ons make it look so much better just like the clip ons make my ninja 650r look so much better .
Been watching you for a while, just moved to the area from Hawaii and found your review for the FZ6r because I'm researching for my next bike (left my CBR600rr in hawaii). Good video!
Got the plain fz6, love it.
detuned r6 motor, got more torque i think. Its so comfy
I've had an 07 fz6 for about a year now. It's an absolute riot to ride. It's a shame they neutered the fz6r by more than 20 hp.
Damn, Didnt know that. Thats sad!
Yup and 98hp
I just finished my motorcycle class and someone in my area is selling one of these. Looks like it will be a great first bike. Thanks.
After watching this video I ended up getting the FZ6R for my first bike and I am in love with the thing. Your review is really what sold me on it, thanks Chase.
Fastest speed?
135
Me too, just bought my first bike yesterday. 2013 fz6r, and couldn't be happier
chandman91 for how much you buy it ? Thank you
after seeing your video of this First Ride i went and got one and love it to bits thanks for the video and for the rest of the videos you do for all of us :)
This is an awesome bike and is an absolute blast in the mountains.
It way better than the ninja 300 i had 2 months ago.
Loads of power too .
agree to that mate
You enjoying the fz6r still? I'm thinking about getting one soon.
I can't say a bad word I love it
+Preston Johnson I have a 2013 fz6r, and i absolutely love it. I only have one complaint and that is the look of the mirrors. Cant seem to find a decent looking mirrors for it.
I use to ride a FZ6R. It is a fanstatic motor with a perfect stock sound. The only downside is it is a heavy beast with a high center of gravity.
So true.... the weight can be a major downside, but i also do believe it has it's pros as well like being a lil more stable and solid on the highway with those windy days.
That's who I have
I'm 26 currently and paying 50 a month for full coverage
Everyone else asks at least double
So I know this was 4 years ago but I got a new policy opened for 76 bucks and 36 a month
I started out on a base 09 FZ 600, it was a great first bike I put 20,000 on it before trading it for my R6s
They are cleaning them out at name your price.
these first ride vids are awesome! keep them coming!
Jonathan Greene hi , can I ask you for how much you buy it? And does it have ABS ? Thanks
ksasbr107 no ABS and for 5200, the price was still a little high you can get them cheaper
7:13 what?
My brother had a red FZ6 , I drove it for awhile.. Good for putting on
.. Took it to blood mnt. a few times.. Was a fun bike
Fail.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It is a good video if you just ignore what he is saying. This bike looks great.
Tucker Middlebrook I couldn't agree more . My FZ6R is a blast in the mountains
+Ron Really
I feel like Chase didn't have much enthusiasm for this bike before he started the ride. He sounds more bored than usual, and I think that affected his outlook on it. I think he had a pre-formed opinion of the bike.
Pokey Cottons C2W whine a little then half heartedly try to back track then really start whining .
Pokey Cottons my fz6r was a blast and the clip ons just made this bike look better
I've been looking at bikes a lot lately trying to pick out my starter bike. I've been looking at the fz6 but this video helped out. I need to find one to go sit on. Thanks man keep doing your thing
You are my inspiration of riding and i just wanna tell you thank you. Because of your reviews I got a R3 and a R6.
Best Regards,
YZF-RSEX
Keep up the good work.
try the fz6 too, has more power
Funny, I had a similar opinion of this bike when I rode it.
I rode it for the first time at a motorcycle show as a demo bike. at the time I liked it and had only ridden for a few months. (My actual first bike was a 620 Multistrada... not a good first bike because it's too tall and the throttle is sensitive.)
I actually recommended the FZ6R to a friend who ended up buying it.
The Yamaha fz6r has roughly 70 - 75 horsepower... you can't tell me that is a slow motorcycle.
this was my first bike.. perfect starter bike.. sold it in a week and got a gixxer 600 lol
i test rode one last year in november at the motorcycle show and absolutely loved it! the only reason i didn't buy one is because i found an older FZ1 i could afford first.
I found a sweet spot with fz6s 2004.. I just love it... We cuddle all the time :)
I love your review videos, I got an fz6r because of this video!
Hey Chase,
I think what your doing is great!
Love to see the GSR 750 in one of your reviews!
Yeah that bike has been modified, doesn't usually have those clip-on's. Stock is a regular handlebar going across the forks.
Just so you know, that FZ6R you rode is not factory, they come with 7/8" clamp on bars, not the clip on's you tested which may be why you felt stretched when you first started riding it.
Chase something you might want to add to your first impressions is how heavy the bike feels and how hard the front brakes are and things like that.
that beeping is the jog dial of your 20S turning because its hutting your shoulder when you turn your head.. lol.. mine was doing the same thing.. just moved it.. I like the FZ6R looks, but the seating position and handlebar make me think it would be too upright.. great to see you doing bike ride reviews... like them a lot.
I think Dafobra is right I get the same beep whenever I close my visor or turn my head toward the Sena 20s. I still haven't moved mine tho ;)
Hey i know this is an old video but whats your opinion on this bike vs the Ninja 650r? Anyones feedback would be appreciated
For anyone who wants to start out. It's a great bike to do it on I sold mine and about to get a GSXR but it's a fantastic bike insurance is low too
the first bike I had bought.. was an 06 CBR F4I. I guess the same thing as the FZ6R. Sport touring. definitely a good starter bike. I hate seeing people say to start on like.. a 250.. when you really don't have to. I had never even sat on a bike before and I bought my CBR and did perfectly fine. But I guess to each his own.
Have they changed the handlebars? I have the 2012 version and it didn't have clipons when I bought it.
0150r no he has aftermarket clip ons
THANK YOU FOR THIS REVIEW!!! This does sound like what I want even though it's "soft". I want a sport bike but not a super sport and although I plan on going to back roads or mountain roads but I don't plan on doing 130 lol I just want to ride and look good doing it
Great review... Saw one of those today... I sat on it and really felt comfortable...
This looks good! Are the clip ons new model year changes for the FZ6R?
Super cool bike! Sounds great, looks great, and is controllable :) loving the review videos chase!!
Cheers
Same here. Did you get the bike and if so, how did it work out for you?👍
I really like this series I hope there are a lot more of these on the way.
In Aus this has throttle restriction which sucks but you can take it off once you are done with your learning period.
Good to hear your thoughts about starter bikes. :] I'm not a big fan of the cockpit design.
An experienced rider would thrash a so-so R6. If I held onto that for five years, it would be very close to an R6 when I was done...lol. It's derived from the old R6 engine, so plenty of upgrades available. That's how I bling, by smoking yet behind...lol.
Why does your fz6r have clip ons? Is that stock from yamaha? I thought all fz6r had the wide handlebars. Mine did...
My main issue with Japanese bike "I own a r1 so calm down, i know im being a hypocrite" is the 1000 pissed off crickets in the crank case noise. It is a very distracting noise.
#C2WFR Honda CBR650F
Sounds like a win. Im just looking for something to cruise around on. Started on 250/300 then moved on to R1S. Now i just wanna ride around for fun. Looking for style, a lil power and comfort. Thx
Chase I want your opinion, I just got my license but prior to getting it. I rode on my friends gsxr600 for practice, and now I'm going to get my first bike. Since I had experience on intermediate bikes, I was thinking for price range getting the cbr650f or the fz6r. Would the cbr650f be a better choice or the fz6r?
Can you do a sv650 if you can find it
Check out Gokumitzu9000's channel.
He got Chase's old bike and does lot's of vids about the SV650.
Got an SV650 for my first bike and I love it...great starter bike in my opinion
Thanks!
Nice review, and I REALLY like the new GoPro setup :)
I still have mine looks better than when I picked it up made it to a street fighter very good for long trips but plan to keep it and pick up a super sport next but want it new
