IP Ratings were designed to reduce the ambiguity between water-resistant and waterproof. IP ratings have 2 digits:
-1st Digital is Solid Protection (dust) 0-6
2nd Digit is liquid protection (water) 0-8
X is the same as 0, meaning not rated.
Manufacturers are allowed to self-certify their ratings.
