  • This is episode one of the DIY build series where we completely gutted our 1972 Shasta Loflyte vintage camper trailer. In this video were deconstructing the interior of the camper and prepping everything for a complete rebuild. We will be posting videos of our progress along the way. You can also see a final video on the Winnebago we completed two years back on the channel.
    Enjoy and Thanks for watching!

Great camper! I own this exact camper, lol. That is not the original sink or thin laminate countertop, or cabinets underneath. The sink is in the right place. In the original 1969 Shasta, to the left of the sink is open countertop space with four drawers underneath it. And they took out the 20 inch wide, 3 burner gas stove that is the vintage avocado (like mine) or yellow-colored with the matching overhead thin stove hood. The stove is on the left side of sink when facing the kitchen cabinets. Where they replaced the fridge is the exact place where the original avocado-colored small fridge went. I wish I could add photos but I can't. Great remodel! Love it.

Damn man, I pretty much grew up in exact same Shasta, my best friends parents had one and as a 12 yr old we loved hanging out in that

So are you going to show restoring the electric for the trailer hookups and stuff? What kind of wood are you going to use? It's a nice project

There’s a couple different videos that show at least some of all of the process… I don’t do an actual tutorial on installing things more so just highlighting it, a lot of this I am learning on the fly and I’m not a professional… I used white pine for all of the framingbut coded everything with polyurethane to give it a little extra protection

I just bought a 71 Shasta LoFlyte as well, just here for ideas. #TinTrailers4Eva
Question: doesn't gutting it like that compromise the structural integrity? (Look at me with my big words, LOL.)

LOL yeah but with this particular trailer I’m just reusing the aluminum exterior, roof and frame I’m going to rebuild everything from scratch you’ll see you in the next video I just posted… This had so much water damage everything you touched you could almost push your fingers through

However, these things are pretty rigid with some decent bracing you could easily square everything back up to build a new layout

I'm working on a 70 play-mor myself. I've watched quite few vlogs of others , some show leaving everything intact pealing the skin in order to avoid needing to brace & then to copy frame work. That version might save your skins so to speak from when the camper might implode if you're not ready. 'Trailer trash to treasure", "Moitec" & maybe "Rob the rebuilder" these are other sites to watch for knowledge or inspiration.
Good luck to all that take on an adventure like these.
