mrekk's rise to the top is something unheard of... until he proved that he was the only one that he could do something like that. Anyone who kept track of his progression knew that he was the real deal, but little did anyone know that he would be the player who would break osu for good. His surge through the rankings is something no other player can possibly replicate. mrekk is widely considered to be the fastest improving osu player of all time. He's done things that no one else can even dream of doing, and he had his eyes on the number 1 ranking, which seemed like an impossibility to many others. Which is why when mrekk took rank 1 from WhiteCat, we instantly knew that we shouldn't take his greatness for granted, but little did we know what he was capable of. Quickly, mrekk started breaking every record the game had ever seen. He bridged a gap so large between him and everyone else that it's virtually impossible to overtake him any time soon, and in doing so, he became the record holder for the longest consecutive time spent at rank 1, surpassing WhiteCat's record that was deemed impossible to beat at the time. He has reached a skillset unmatched by everyone else. He sets unbelievable scores like it's nothing, and is quickly making his case for becoming the greatest osu player of all time, arguably surpassing even the incredible legacy of Cookiezi. It's almost impossible to keep track of what mrekk has done, because the moment you lose focus, he's storming ahead of the competition at groundbreaking speed. With everything that he has done, the legacy he has left behind, and his sheer, undeniable motivation to stay at the top, it's safe to say one thing: There will never be another osu player like mrekk.

Funny how Mrekk, WhiteCat and Vaxei all used DT farm maps to climb to the top and then just completly broke the game by being good at everything
also Rafis I guess (although I think he only ever reached rank 1 much later)

The moment I realised he’s special is when he was 1v1ing against vaxei, and he won on a speed map with 99.5%+ acc. In that moment, everything little thought of him being a dt farmer just instantly disappeared

I first remember seeing mrekk when he just got in the top 100 and seeing a couple replays on CPOL’s YT channel. I never would of thought that he would have this much improvement, and it really shows how far mrekk has come. I can’t wait for what he has to show in the future as I know he’s capable of breaking insane barriers with ease.

i remember when mrekk first caught peoples attention and how quickly me and multiple others jumped on calling him a cheater from how insanely quick he improved, and yet here he is. needless to say me and those people definitely ate our words. absolutely insane player

The thing is, Mrekk is what Cookiezie was, but Mrekk simply kept going and did try to set insane scores rather then relaxing more / focussing on just enjoying the game happening to do insane stuff at times while doing so.
Cookiezi on steroids cuz now the top 50 of today would ravage cookiezi and everyone else in 2013-17

cookiezi is doing pretty well too, although chokes most of the time but he has potential to progress even more. Honestly its unreal how good that guy is even after all these years
@@amaimon8031 yes, and that doesn't rly have to do with what I said, if you compare anything competetive now to almost 10 years ago everything now is going to be significantly better then back then, for the most part humans tend to move forwards and improve, not backwards and decline

It's always discouraging when you are a new player who wants to someday reach the top, but then see other players like Mrekk and think "LOL NOPE"

I get where your coming from seeing players like mrekk well idk how to explain it. It’s pure insanity someone is this good with that many skill sets. And even when I compared myself with some of my friends. I’d grind for months at a time to get where they are then they would gain like 50-100 k rank in a week and be able to do much better plays than me.there have been a good amount of people that day I’m pretty low rank for how long I’ve played but I’m now starting to improve at a good rate after focusing less on comparing and playing just for fun and to try to set fun scores. Basically try not to compare yourself with others. If you know someone else who started playing the same time as you and is improving at a similar speed they may be good competition for you but don’t compete with players you can’t compete with or it will only drag you down

It's both encouraging and discouraging. You want to emulate their level of play and skills somehow, but once you realize how far away they are it seems pointless. The middle ground to this and the best you can do is just to have fun. Hopefully through that process, you might get closer to him in terms of skill than you originally thought was possible.

Seriously, even reading this sentence made me have chills because of how much he is above everyone else like lifeline and akolibed are finally getting back to whitecat's level back in 2020 in terms of pp (I'm not counting merami, nyanpotato, etc. because they only have like one or two scores that were around whitecat's highest pp plays ever, unlike akolibed and lifeline who are setting much more 1ks and sometimes 1.1ks than the rest of them) and mrekk is just improving day by day. mrekk's dominance is like whitecat's dominance but instead of 1ks and 1.1ks it's 1.2ks and 1.3ks while people are still struggling to set 1.1ks.
I enjoyed Mrekk’s Rushia era
But he evolved further in his recent Sakamata era

Its honestly insane to me how mrekk is STILL better than the entirety of the world combined at osu
Last year he was also better than the entire world but nowadays akolibed and lifeline became 1K PRINTERS just like 2021 mrekk and yet he is still standing DOMINANTLY at the top and whenever it feels like players are catching up he just dedicates himself to getting insane plays and gets like 400 RAW PP IN A DAY EVEN THOUGH HE'S AT 24KPP. The man is quite simply built differently
Edit: Just checked and his peak gap was ~3745pp. Right now mrekk is basically still just as far ahead as WhiteCat was back in the peak of his reign as the gap between him and the current #2 is 3167pp.

Around nearing the end of 2019, I'd already predicted mrekk would take the #1 spot from WhiteCat, and I wasn't wrong. Although it took long, he still did it and the fact that he made the previous gap look insurmountable to the one he made now, it's amazing to see a player of his caliber.
My first time hearing about mRekk was his 1st 1k on make a move on cpol's channel, and i thought "this kid's gonna get rank 2 so easily".
Technically i was right.

I'm trying to think of a comparison to Mrekks dominance and can't. The first two things that come to mind are Wayne Gretzky absolutely dominating the world of hockey back in the mid 80's, and NiP in the early CS:GO days when they won 87 lan matches in a row. Mrekk is on an even higher level of dominance than either of them.
Just imagine how much further ahead he would be if he hadn't had pc problems in 2018.
Flash in Starcraft is the only comparison i can think of, maybe Faker in league as well.. but yeah insane.

It's one thing to be the best. Reaching the summit in any form of competition is an honorable achievement and widely respected by everyone. But it's another thing to be the best and completely blow out your competition during your rise to the top. To be the absolute best and continue pushing your limits beyond what anyone else is capable of separates the great players from the legends. But sometimes, a player pushes so far ahead of everyone else, you wonder if their rise is just a work of fiction. In osu!, no other player embodies that statement more than mrekk.
