FWIW - a quick trip into the hardware section for some 12” galvanized dock spikes and some S hooks and you’ve got mega tent spikes for a fraction the cost. (Use the S hooks to create a rope loop at the head of the spike.) Want extra holding power in softer dirt, get the Ardox spikes (spiral cut). Been doing this for decades now and I’ve never had one pull out.
I’m psyched you named the pakboat. Ours is called Steve in honor of a departed friend. It’s not flimsy at all. Ours has been cartopped all over the western mountains of Maine with no issues. I would not take it on the freeway, but do get it up to 50+ on some of the paved roads.
Interesting...the thing that scares me about cartopping is a a rock getting kicked up. If they do damage to a windshield I imagine they'd go straight through the pakcanoe. Cheers to Steve 💚
Thanks for your thoughts on the Pakcanoe. I've been mulling one over for years - no room to store a full-sized canoe but I can store that one in a closet!
When I went camping in eastern Wyoming a few years ago, I was told to get a bunch of tent stakes like those because the ground was “granite gravel” and those big spike - nail style were the only ones that worked in that type of ground. Well, they weren’t kidding. They’re kind of over kill for when I camp east of the Mississippi River lol
When I saw the tear i tbought to myself i hope Jon brought some shoe goo? I was like whew and laughed when you mentioned you planned to patch it with the stuff. Once I shoe goo'd my BF's daughters car bumper back together with the stuff, it lasted for years.
Love to hear you talk about your gear. Your southern neighbors don't easily get the opportunity to take the same kind of excursions you do and so I frequently don't know what you're using
One thing I have never heard you both mention is genuine nutrition and no other outdoor channel does. Wish we could get together and discus some advanced nutrients that will keep your mineral and vitamin tanks topped up for ultimate health and performance.
Glad the canoe worked out (unlike the leaky tent) you looked so livid. Lol. I dont blame you either. The canoe is definitely a specialized piece of gear. Looking forward to seeing you put it to use again
Have not had any experience with that type of canoe, I was very impressed with how well it served you over the coarse of the trip. Still having some difficulty wrapping my head around the idea of using it for white water rapids running. Looking forward to seeing that. The ease of transport of it are obvious pluses!
Probably an hour+ the first time and the third time maybe down to 30 mins. It is a bit of a pain though...I would only take it for purpose of saving the external load surcharge on a long flight
thank you, louise wants to know the name of the shirts and pants Erin is wearing, the one with the pony tail hole in the back of the hood,, thank you,,, Bob
Good question...we don't kneel outside of whitewater but you could place your knees between the frame on the pad but knee pads would be good, or we bring CCF pads so we'd likely just lay those down

That boat is an elegant piece of engineering. Shoe Goo, don't leave home without it!
I for one (no doubt among many here) would be interested in a long-term review/analysis/whatever on the Pakboat canoe, if you're so inclined.
I’ve had a 15’ Pak Canoe for years, very reliable and have used it on class 2 plus rivers, it is a great canoe.

I tried tent stakes like that this year, love them!
Thanks I was hoping to hear your thoughts on the canoe! Loved the trip video!
Jon& Erin Cheers👍😎👍
Excellent! Glad the new boat is working out and sure seems like a great addition to the fleet 😉

We try to eat well enough for the situation but really lack the expertise to speak to it with any value
@@LostLakes2 I can help you both with the knowledge and higher health standards on a new level can we connect?

Lol definitely wasn't impressed
Good job,! TY!

I've heard it's actually preferable for Arctic rivers...we'll have to find out :)
Really enjoyed this journey. Looked like an incredible trip.
Nice to see you guys.
Great info!
Gandalf is very cool. How long did it take to set up?

Sure thing, they're the Outdoor Research Ferrosi pants and Outdoor Research sun hoodie
@@LostLakes2 beautiful, thank you , much appreciated.
what is Erin sitting on ? is it a stadium chair?
A little folding canoe seat. Ours are basic but Crazy Creek makes some nicer ones
How's that canoe for kneeling?
