      He had a lot of wisdom. Had already served in the Army Airborne, had played in lots of bands, jammed with legends, spent time in Europe. He transcended all attempts to categorize or define him. I thought it was cool to hear Pete Townsend say that he was never jealous of him because he was so much better and so far ahead of any other guitar player that there was no point in comparing oneself to him.

    • @musiccer7446
      @musiccer7446 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interestingly it’s usually highly intelligent people with a high IQ that are the best at music. Studies show that a high IQ usually comes with a lower EIQ. Being able to understand and express emotion is different than understanding the emotions of others. So actually it was unlikely that he had a very high emotional intelligence because his logical intelligence was very high making him one of the greatest musicians ever. This correlation seems counter intuitive but it makes sense that a brain that is better at analysing logical patterns is better at music than one that has a better intuitive emotional understanding. Just saying. I am just referencing studies

      @@musiccer7446 This seems to hold true more for those who are formally taught rather than self-taught musicians, as you rely more on your right brain and creative thinking in order to learn in otherwise unorthodox ways, rather than learning “by the book” theory as you would in a more formal setting. You are more reliant on feeling and the intuition in order to figure things out, rather than simply memorizing patterns.

      Few people overdosed on heroin back in the 1960's because it was so weak. NARCAN was not invented. The idea so many famous icons like Morrison, Hendrix, Joplin as overdosed is a bit hard to accept at face value. They were part of the counter culture that were too smart or knew way too much for the Social Engineers who created the social revolution. Morrison could not play any musical instrument and was living on Venice beach collecting coke bottles to raise $1.50 per day to buy a potato, some soup and green beans to eat each day. He was sleeping on the roof of a friends apt in Venice beach.
      The next thing we see, he is being flown around the world on a 75 city tour and a private plane.
      The rock scene was a psyop designed to create a younger generation of drug using rebels who could be labeled as anti war, while all the rest of society was forced to become pro war.

I saw him live in Fort Worth soon afterward and filmed part of the concert on a borrowed Super 8, my elbows steadying the camera on the edge of the stage. On February 16th 1968, I had the thrill of chasing Jimi's limo down from behind the Dallas State Fair Music Hall to the Dallas Statler Hilton on Commerce Street. It was so funny that a doorman actually opened up the door of 1962 Ford Falcon I was driving as if it were a swanky limo. Jimi was very gracious and spent a few minuets visiting and signing ticket stubs. Unfortunately the little Kodak Browning camera I was using spent all of the film at the concert and I had no photographic proof to share with friends and family. Sadly , someone a couple of years later sneaked into my bedroom early one morning while I was passed out and stolen my wallet containing the precious ticket stub with Jimi's autograph, never to be seen again.....

Hendrix's catalog after his death was never cheap. They still want the most money for it, the greedy vulturous pigs.
      With all this stuff that people only know, it seems like all Hendrix's gigs were amazing when it's far from the truth. He had many nights and days where he and Noel just hated how they were on the stage. They may be gentle people compared to the brash, arrogant people we are nowadays, but they also had some things they hated about themselves and their skill and even the world. I think he sort of dropped his guitar on the stage floor at the end of the Isle of Wight gig. Artists, man - it's impossible to learn of the true emotions and feelings they have when it gets critical, especially in a critique way. I know this because I'm an artist doing my own thing and it just gets rough, and that never ceases, though we never stop doing the art.

      SRV was an alcoholic his whole life. You can read his first speech at an AA meeting, transcript online. He also was channeling Jimi, though Jimi spent a lot of time in the south long before 1966 so I'd suppose most people in the "scene" in the 50s and 60s spoke like that, particularly in the south. Jimi and Stevie took that from the fellow peers and grown ups in my opinion and it never left them. Of course, they also were their natural 10 year old boy-selves. Very innocent, humble respectful creatures of the human race. We get to see videos of Hendrix and SRV in our time, I think that's crazy enough.

    Dallasite here.....that building at the beginning is the old Dallas Memorial Auditorium. Every notable performer in the 60's and most of the 70's played at the old auditorium. The Beatles, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Elvis, and etc. In fact, I think the 2nd to last Doors concert with Morrison happened here. During this time,in the late 60's, it was by itself. It's now part of a large convention center complex. The old auditorium barely gets used any more. What i think is interesting in this video is that you get a sense that Jimi was only important to a certain age range. To anyone over 30, let's say, he was just a hack, not a real musician, and only made noise.......on top of being a societal was and dopehead. Funny how artists are only understood and accepted by society at-large, after they are gone. Say what you want about heavy metal and hard rock guitarists, but Jiminy was the beginning and laid the ground work for unimaginable possibilities on electric guitar. And then Eddie Van Halen took it over and continued it. It's very rare to have an artist fundementally changed the way an instrument is approached by other artists. But it all started with Jimi.

    High school drop out/101st Airborne...guy acts like he did nothing in between high school and becoming Jimi. Never mind toured with Isley’s Little Richard, played with King Curtis, John Hammond Jr. and his own iterations etc.
    The press has always had a skewed view.

    Back in that time frame ' younger people were more mentally independent. More respectful ' humble & happy. They also weren't so wrapped up into vanity . That's merely my observations & personal opinion .

    At the top of their game but Hendrix only had just over a year left to live. Seems incredible from this interview but true and the experience had even less time left than that. Makes you realise that no one, not even Hendrix, should or could take anything for granted.
